Species Spotlight - African Spurred Tortoise

sulcata-tortoise3.jpg

The African Spurred Tortoise is the third biggest tortoise species and is named after the large pointed scales on the tortoise's forelimbs. It is a species that is common in captivity and seen often as pets. The tortoise is native to the Sahara desert and is the largest mainland species of tortoise. They can live more than 70 years and are unfortunately listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.

African Spurred Tortoises aren't normally talked about for DLC in Planet Zoo and it's understandable as it's similar to animals we already have in the game and there seem to be a very limited number of slots. However, the African Spurred Tortoise will add variety to Planet Zoo's lacking desert roster, and provide the game with another reptile and tortoise that looks visually distinct to the two we have in the game. I've personally loved these guys since being introduced to them in ZT2 and have another visually distinct tortoise will do wonders for the diversity in this game. They're up there with Radiated Tortoises, Sea Turtles, and Snapping Turtles for my most wanted or the turtle group. What kind of turtles/ reptiles would you guys love to have?

Happy for ya bud! 🥳

The best consolation prize for not getting the animals I wanted is seeing the people who did be really happy 😊😊😊
The game giveth and it taketh away, lol!
I appreciate it definitely gonna be cool seeing another zt2 animal back in the game and our first habitat tortoise since the base game

No it definitely will. I'm hyped for them too actually because I often put the Aldabra tortoise in mixed African habitats, even though it doesn't really belong in there. It'll be great to have a better species to use now. I'm also really looking forward to seeing how it looks and making it a nice home in my zoo.

Yea plus a desert tortoise is just cool in my opinion 😂

I only wish there was some inter-species interaction. I'd love, for example, to see meerkats using the back of a spurred tortoise as a sentry post.
