Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Is that this year's Hold The Line?

Pledge, so that your grandchildren may profit...

"Wait won't specifying a release year come back to haunt us if we inevitably don't release it that decade"

"no no. Our backers are a special kind of fool"

Quick summary:

00:00 min
  • Pre rendered cut scenes
  • Some turrets thrill
  • Bishop speech again
25 min
  • More turret thrill with vanduul flying in straight line
30 min
  • Crash
  • More cutscenes, now with torpedos
  • More turret thrill (jesus f christ)
45 min
  • More cutscenes with vanduul shooting now
  • more cutscenes, no actual player flying gameplay
  • Crash
  • Chris excuses, sponsored PC
  • Cutscenes played back again because of crash
60 min
  • Still more cutscenes
  • 65 min FPS barely, crouching plus cutscenes
  • Some combat with vanduul, looking quite pre cooked
  • Push pull?
80 min
  • More cutscenes / "piloting" an Idris, the only ship "piloted" in over an hour and a half.
  • Gilian glitching when vanduul arrive
  • Shooting some vanduul
  • Gilian glitches again with no weapon, crash
  • Bugged, load next section
90 min
  • More cutscenes
All in all, barely 15-20 min of "gameplay", highly precooked at that: turrets mostly, then some crouching or shooting at targets not shooting back.

Surprisingly underwhelmed. Seeing this demo with so little gameplay, using parts of the tutorial only, and then Chris saying 2026 (!!)... I have close to zero confidence the rest of chapter 1 is anywhere near feature or content complete.

As for Chris latest 2026 announcement... this time is 2026 for sure, for real, trust me bro.
Also you forgot to mention one minor but also very annoying thing and that is that from some reason geniuses from CIG put "work in progress" overlay and subtitle when Vanduul speaks EXACTLY on the very same spot so that is almost impossible to read so if you don't speak Vanduulese you have no idea what they talking about....

So you did not go to CIG University and learn Vanduul? Noob /s

And I wonder: what does the knowledge that there are still 2 more years of initial development for SQ42 imply for SC development?

Everyone was happy and congratulating themselves because, since the release of SQ42 was "just around the corner", CIG could devote all its resources to SC.

Moved to the feedback sub forum (where threads are sent to die that are negative but can't be locked or deleted).

Let me remind everyone what this sub-forum is allegedly for: "Want to discuss the latest Release? Look no further!"

Thread:

About the con and SQ42, not the latest release.

And the mood on Spectrum right now is probably best summed up with a screenshot

Well, can't accuse CIG of not trying. They definitely tried their best.
Whose excited for Squadron 42 in 2026?
Reminds me of what Star Citizen fans said when Call of Duty Space came out and Star Citizen/Squadron 42 will be 1000x better.

I am disappointed in Mark Strong.

If they tried "their best", after what is extensively the longest time a game has been in continuous development and record funding and record directors salaries, shouldn't they have had something to show that's you know, sort of an actual game, without - you know - everyone having to scramble around working overtime to produce staged demo stuff like it's still a Kickstarter year and they only have, maybe, the first hour of cut-scenes from the first year of work?

If they tried their best, that surely would have been what we expected to see in 2014 followed by a release date and a game.
