And I wonder: what does the knowledge that there are still 2 more years of initial development for SQ42 imply for SC development?

Everyone was happy and congratulating themselves because, since the release of SQ42 was "just around the corner", CIG could devote all its resources to SC.
That is a really good point. SC 1.0 cant release before SQ42 in theory. And given 2026 is likely another deadline that will come and go like the rest of them... It just makes you dizzy simply thinking about it.

Possibly the most surprising thing is that given hardware under their complete control, and software under their complete control, and multiple QA people under their complete control they still could not run the demo without 3 crashes.

What are the chances of them ever pushing this out to the public at an acceptable quality level?

Yeah we were wrong... being ported to cinemas not consoles!

🤣

Someone posted the old meme and updated it.

Ah, the narrative is forming. Its so many cutscenes because its just a tutorial/prologue! The whole game won't be like this. Of course not! The game being delivered by the man who made the Wing Commander movie would never subject people to that!

And keep in mind this is literally the best they have to show. People worked 3 60 hour weeks to prepare it.
Now think what they ACTUALLY have outside of nice power point presentations and per-renedered videos.

what amazes me is that after 13 years they are still making the tools to build the game...

Please let the CitizenCon show us everything before complaining....

Ah, can't criticize the things you have seen because CIG might just show something tomorrow that will counter that criticism?

At least give yourself a few months to get tired of all of the content in Pyro before complaining, lol.

Isn't Pyro just Stanton with a new skin?

What I find strange is people have actually pre-ordered SQ42 at full price, not a crowdfunding pledge. There was an actual pre-order page for years that had a fake "minimum spec" windows 8 machine. People paid full price for a product that the vendor has, without fail, completely misrepresented the status of for an amount of time that will soon hit the Guiness book of records for longest video game development time, knocking off Duke Nukem forever.

Chris seemed to genuinely be surprised by the crashes because he (and QA) had played through the whole thing recently, so it is interesting the announcement was 2026. I guess that means that the rest of the game is is a worse state than the intro ... which crashed multiple times in cut scenes ...

Let's remember that probably a majority of what's showcased has been hastly stitched together during a 2-weeks crunch that happened because the regular overtime development M.O. wasn't enough.

Nothing has been made for production of the actual game, but mainly for the con.
I wonder how recent the decision was made to do the worm again. Very recent probably. Everything we planned is broken, what do we do?? Wormie!

Mike actually interviewed the guy who talks about / was in change of this after his talk - about 3-4 months work (though you can also read it as 2-3 weeks). Bizarrely the Sand Worm seems actually one of the things closer to happening.

Edit: Valakar = Sandworm
