Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

So SQ42 was supposed to have a beta in 2020, after it was “nearly finished” back in 2016 and then in 2017 (never mind it was also announced for a 2015 release after delaying the original release date of 2014).

Now we have to wait as a minimum until 2026. The excuse back in 2016 was the inclusion of full planets. So, real talk CIG, with 10 years of delays after that, what the truck is the excuse now? Is it that someone made Vanduul assets human size and you had to restart from scratch? Or is it that the lead dev fell from a bike and broke his wrist?
I saw a video this morning on youtube with the opening of the demo split screen, 2023 vs 2024 version (ships arrive, fly through asteroids, arrive at ship fleet).

There's the reason. They are doing everything over and over and over. Watching it you realise it's not the same, it's not a texture reskin, it's redone over and over.

Every year.

It's a scam.

Oooooh, I must be a hater!

It's a jpeg on the internet, I'd probably say it's justified satire.

Which is worse, a jpeg for lols or CIG actually plagiarizing peoples work multiple times over the years for massive profit?

(the jpeg works because of precedent)
Naaah i am not buying that..... it is trolling, they create the nonsense and release it because they know people will see it, believe it and run with it, as they have here, because the sad truth is, people love clickbait crap, and as many want to see SC fail as want it to succeed imo.

if someone wants to accuse CIG of plagiarism then they can forward the actual examples of it, they shouldnt have to make them up.... the fact that people thought it was legit and forwarded as a fact wasnt a mistake, that was precisely the goal of the image, it wasnt an attempt at humour.

It's such a shame, I see why people/players get so involved, its a dream, a game you've always wanted.. But it's not going to appear in the way it was first set out. Of course, we know that, it's changed so many times...... And that is where the problem is.

I think that the players still pushing this game, streamers or whoever and whatever they do, are very much responsible for the hype and misleading of others to part with cash for this game. It is not going to appear as you imagine, and why! it's impossible, they intend to drag it out and keep it right upto date (C Roberts said) with current tech, but they have moved from 2012 to now and haven't released much in way of a game, they just keep trying to keep up with what is happening around them in the industry, that is why it will never appear, they say they want it to be the best most upto date tech (also VR).
It's crazy, not so much a scam, more a myth.

No longer does Roberts have to apppear for long, he has many doing the job for him, because so many rely on this project for their salary/money, they can't let players see the truth and that is it is never going to release as players expect, with what they expect. It merely needs to persist onwards for as long as possible or even for decades. There are always gullible people around to invest in the 'perfect space game', when in reality it isn't even a game and the more it goes on 'Space' is getting mighty small when compared with the original idea.

Just sad.

It's not Roberts pushing this now, it's those that get a wage/commision/salary/dividend/or whatever else, 'Earnings'! from this mess. They are the ones responsible, they are the front line in this Myth/Mess. Star Citizen will never release as players expected, it can't! when you promise the world you have to deliver, so look at the track record so far... Look at the game, it's a mess after 12yrs and it will still be a mess in 12yrs time.

Do not back a Myth with cash, believe! yes. But don't part with cash, there is a difference.
Look at the money already collected and then look at what is there. The games crap, the team behind it is huge and the spaces they inhabit are very costly.
Just stop and think for a minute.

It just ain't going to happen people.

It's fast becoming a 'Cult', I'm not even joking there.

... well it all sounds perfectly normal, I'm sure every former millionaire that uses Kickstarter to fund their late career vanity project with their family and lawyer does the same thing.
Sidebar, I really dislike Kickstarter these days as it seems that it is being used now for projects that it wasn't really envisaged for:

Such as Free League Publishing (an established RPG game company) announcing a Kickstarter for a 2nd Edition of their Alien RPG (which is less than a decade old, and had a chunky kickstarter attached to it.)

Shouldn't be hard ;)

But genuinely, as with all things, CIG is armpit deep in the grey area...

You really still « play that game »?
Only if I'm bored enough :D

I have a peek around the ship sales after citcon or IAE to see what's new to flyables, if I have store credit sitting...which I invariably do, I'll shuffle stuff around a bit by CCU'ing or melting ships I'm bored with or are still in jpeg. I spend around 50 bucks of real money every other year...nothing major. I tend to buy cosmetics more than anything else...armour and paint n' stuff, and like the ship shuffling, always in store credit.

I'm hardly the definition of an SC whale or anything, Ci~G spent my cash many years ago...I'm just milling around waiting to see if anything comes out of all this like everyone else :)

To put the star citizen spending in perspective, and like @WhiteHaulerMan hinted at...my annual and overall spending on DCS and IL2 is so much on another level from SC, it's scary

i guess that is the fine line isnt it................. see i would say the above IS more satire. it is completely obvious what it is they are copying, i guess that is down to the hello kitty IP holders if they think it is funny or stealing.
not a million miles from itchy and scratchy on the simpsons or the social media platform "FriendFace" in the IT crowd imo. (oh and how could i forget the micky take of twitter in the GTA series (and the irony there is the name IS apt - that is decent satire imo )) - i wont post here as it could be considered mildly offensive ;)

I suppose I'm part of this cult mentality... if you look at it sideways :D

Star citizen backers, they're not always quite as advertised on t'interwebs ;)

I guess the distinction is that CIG sells related products. Cosmetics with the space kitty branding, the Star Wars knock off ship for $100s, etc.

It's a darker shade of grey ;)

Someone not happy with CIG basically adding engineering like in ED.
i dont mind it in Elite because i am not forced to play with other players... also for single player games having flat out upgrades is par for the course (just like elite, elite 2 and 1st encounters had, as well as Dangerous and in the CRoberts camp wing commander and privateer has as well.

but given it looks like SC wont have any mitigation like that, and PvP is going to have an undodgeable component...i can see this being an issue.

mind you it is nothing new, the moment some ships had free life time insurance that was a problem imo.

Yeah a lot of established RPG companies crowdfund almost eveything now even when they have the means to fund it themselves.

I've no problem with trolling.

But again, why did people believe the image? There's a reason.

Broadly speaking, if I was a 'lone wolf' player I don't blame them. Particularly in the format CiG seem to be advocating, as it renders anything 'stock' pretty unworkable in a environment where PvP activities are intended, leading to reliance on players being involved in groups working to produce these higher tier ships/components/items (see: EvE Online, Star Wars: Galaxies, Naval Action, etc.).
