News Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy | New Release Date and Release Schedule

Any word on the Type-8 being available in-game for credits?

on the 31st

Did Frontier confirm that, instead of November?
Well, it seems that content creators in the Partner Plus program have access to information the rest of us don't, and one streamer (I won't name just in case) also says Thursday (31st October 2024) for the Type-8 being available for credits.

So it begs the question, if those in the Partner Plus program, who I take it have signed something that details what they can and can't reveal and when they can and can't reveal it, can tell us mere mortals with confidence the Type-8 will be available for credits on Thursday ... why can't Frontier just come out and say it and end all this uncertainty?

I have taken part in a number of beta tests, they do these before major updates, since this isn't a major update they have probably used internal testers, this is acceptable for updates between major updates because beta testing costs money.
I have done several betas to my mind the release came too soon after the beta I had at first expected a second beta to confirm the fixes worked.
It gave the impression that someone high up was too focussed on meeting dates than anything else.
Good to know!
First I’ve heard of it from anybody.
Internal testing is probably great as long as they catch the bugs and don’t cause a delay.
I’m curious how you became a beta tester?
Well the first I was involved with* cost around a fiver to sign up for, later ones they just announced a beta was happening, told us when they were taking the snapshot of the galaxy so we could preposition then there was an update to the launcher which gave us the option to play the beta or the main game.

*This was sometime after Hirizons was running and didn’t involve fish as currency.

You know that it does not matter how many times they delay it? It will be broken and buggy, as it always have been. I dont remember a single update that did not break anything.
Either dont give any release date and try your best to make it right or just release it and fix it later. But delay after delay wont make anything better
No.

This 'either/or' is very binary and far more often than not, when applied to real life, it is an oversimplification imo.

In many aspects of real life, there is inherent randomness. Software development is no exception. Therefore expecting updates to be fixed in time (e.g. no delays) very likely will result in botched releases, releases that are not just 'buggy' but game breaking.

I prefer carefully planned release dates from fdev, with the expectation of reasonable delays. We may disagree on what a reasonable delay is.

That almost nothing is ever released prior to its planned release date, well, that's a whole different discussion under the umbrella of 'under promise and over achieve'.

Cheers!

except this was flagged by their limited customer beta tester feedback.

(that said............ stirring the pot a little bit but technically i paid for beta access as did a lot of us, so why was the beta test limited to the special few "content creators"? ;)
They weren’t beta testing it.
They were being invited to take the new ship and activities out for a ride to provide publicity and get some stuff out in the media before the launch.
A bit like VW letting a bunch of motoring journalists have a track day with their new car for the weekend and then sing it’s praises,

Except this time everything went wrong

Well on Thursday we find out if your source was being indiscreet or mistaken.

Well technically they could be being both.

note i put the smiley in there, I am not fussed either way.... however they got an early version of the game and found issues which lead to the delay of the release whilst they were fixed.

sounds like a beta test to me! )or as much of a beta test as what most of us used to do, as technically you could argue the alpha/beta backers were not really beta testing either)

Because we were unlucky or lucky enough to find it. If you're part of the partner program what you get is supposed to be the release build a couple of days (but more likely only 24 hours) before everyone else. It's normally just enough time to create a video / guide for the new content and that's it. It's a marketing program, not a testing program.

Mind you, if it wasn't for a couple of people reporting CTDs or weird AI interactions, then chances are you would have got last Tuesday's build and this would have been the saltiest release since Odyssey!

More than intended?

Do we play the same game?
No, you don't play the same game... the issue is in the release candidate that FDev have, which includes a huge refactor and rebalance, and in that version the NPCs are too aggressive. You aren't playing that version. Even the streamers who have an early access version aren't playing that version.

Hi, thought I would jump in this - we have not yet been informed of when the Type 8 is coming out in game for credits. I think many are thinking that it might be with the update but nothing official on the Type 8 has been announced either with or without an NDA to the Partners.

Coming back to the game I loved for 2000+ hours.
Hope this means they are really putting the Dev time in now- Coasters Dinos finally faded away and here we are back with the players that started the good times rolling.
There really is just a bit of tweaking required to make the game great again ; )
Mandalay with its fully detailed cockpit! Buy 2! I am.
P.S Planet Coaster 2 is due for release on Nov 6th, it is likely the overall company focus right now

But you did responded. I mean: Streamers == Partners program participants == beta testers (in this case at least). Sorry, I'm not hired nor interested in proving something relatively that obvious.
The part that is not obvious is why you think an experienced streamer, even if they have thousands of hours of gameplay, will have the same QA skills as a SFIA level 7 QA practitioner with decades of experience.

Playing a game and noticing something is a bit odd is not the same thing as professional playtesting, not in the slightest. You don't even have to be any good at the game to be an outstanding professional tester.
