News Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy | New Release Date and Release Schedule

P.S Planet Coaster is due for release on Nov 6th, it is likely the overall company focus right now
Which has some serious "we are not leaving this meeting room until we find out which company insisted we put a major ED update right near Planet Coaster release" vibes, doesn't it?

Hi, thought I would jump in this - we have not yet been informed of when the Type 8 is coming out in game for credits. I think many are thinking that it might be with the update but nothing official on the Type 8 has been announced either with or without an NDA to the Partners.
Thank you for that. Not being in the Partner Plus program myself, I don't know.
I guess it was the opinion then of the person I was citing as my source.

The part that is not obvious is why you think an experienced streamer, even if they have thousands of hours of gameplay, will have the same QA skills as a SFIA level 7 QA practitioner with decades of experience.
Key words are "in this case". Would be ridiculous to say that "streamers" (I would call them Partner Program participants) should replace proper QA team. They have to be involved after everything is tested. Exactly for the reason you formulated:
Playing a game and noticing something is a bit odd is not the same thing as professional playtesting, not in the slightest.
Why I think so? Simply because no one will include in scope of testing test cases like "rolling Mandalay to the crater to check if wings are not clipped" and same goes for overly-aggressive NPCs: its not easy to formulate, but (my speculation here) easy to assume that if that behaviour is beyond comfort level of Buur Pit (or others with that level of experience) then, probably it will be not really comfortable for most of Players after release. Just to summarise what I'm trying to say: currently we have win-win-win situation, where FDev have pre-release tests and promo done by Partners (more or less for free), we have info and teasers from people we trust and those Partners have promo for their channels. Again: win-win-win.
You don't even have to be any good at the game to be an outstanding professional tester.
Can't agree more on that.

. When they say pledge, they mean PLEDGED!! Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with that because I have a specific Powerplay commander, but for those that only have one Cmdr account that choice will effect their gameplay for good.
Yeah tbqh that's slightly concerning for newbie players like me who have only been here in EliteD for 6 months and are just now finally feeling like i got the hang of things lol ( routine & routes & such ) . Particuarly as a squad-leader too , i really gonna need to think VERY seriously with tons of research before making 'pledge' decision for PP2.0 this time. Sorta daunting.

Why any Developer would choose that game over the sheer dynamic vastness & potentials of this Elite Dangerous is beyond me.

i'm assuming that other game is some sort of major ca$h-cow for them? ( i never heard of it sorry )

years ago my mate got a job beta testing a what was to be cutting edge flight SIM of the time during summer hols from uni. (I think it was EF2000 but possibly the one after F22 ADF) he was obsessed with flight Sims and thought it would be fun.
he was wrong! :D. 6 weeks of flying a plane upside down under a bridge in the sea and clipping the water, then repeating at 45 degrees then 60 degrees etc etc etc got old really fast.

and his bonus for doing the full summer hols...... a free copy of the game (a game he never ever wanted to see again)

on the bright side he got to design some of the in-game missions in it but I don't think that made up for a pretty brain rotting holiday

I'm all for it presenting a challenge even in solo mode. However, AFAIK the problem was them NOT following any logic at all, spawning in even the remotest of places that are considered far off every PP installation or even interesting locations, just based on the mere presence of a player pledged to a power. This I meant with driving people off if being the first impression of 2.0. Quite obviously FDev also acknowledged that by seeing the need to postpone the release in order to fix this first.
Yes it is a problem with the general lack of continuity between Instances/Systems/Missions, NPCs spawning directly into your radar range just feels like the lowest denominator of representing an event, it breaks the galaxy immersion. Powerplay should be a layer that tries to breakdown the instance compartmentalisation. I would imagine that in a Galaxy of trillions of humans sometimes a patrolling PowerPlay fleet might even decide to attack a lone craft just because they are pledged to a competing power for the sake of bravado or themselves maybe trying to gain favour with their own leaders. The dynamic politics of Powerplay between neutral and warring status would drive the probability of such encounters.

Ingame this risk of the chance encounter should be presented as a strategic choice, for example an intel report from your own Power could warn you that an competing Powerplay fleet were looking for a target or have gone rogue while in their space. You would then have xx minutes to respond, perhaps you could get a longer notice period the greater your ranking. Options could be to try and complete your mission within the time before they turn up or risk losing that reward by fleeing straight away, or the idea of finding a planet location to go cold, one that does not have any of the Powers Settlements on it or if does have a Settlement finding a mountain range to hide out would give you the best chance.

Good as ED is, the truth is creative management sims is really what Frontier excels at. PlanCo was a major success for them and PlanCo 2 shows early promise it will be a landmark in the genre. The reality is, not sure anyone is choosing anything over anything. Frontier has committed to releasing a major title each year for the next three years beginning with PlanCo 2, which tells me they're more than capable of handling simultaneous projects.

ED is old. We were told long ago they wanted to support it for 10 years, and they've made good on that. The game is now winding down into whatever its existence will be post-Ascendancy, whether it be some kind of maintenance mode or eventual terminus, a few more years of content, whatever the revenue stream dictates.

Well, it seems that content creators in the Partner Plus program have access to information the rest of us don't, and one streamer (I won't name just in case) also says Thursday (31st October 2024) for the Type-8 being available for credits.

So it begs the question, if those in the Partner Plus program, who I take it have signed something that details what they can and can't reveal and when they can and can't reveal it, can tell us mere mortals with confidence the Type-8 will be available for credits on Thursday ... why can't Frontier just come out and say it and end all this uncertainty?
I can say without needing to name any names that one of the people asking in this very thread when the type-8 will be available for credits is in the partner program. There really has been no official word, just lots of perfectly reasonable assumptions.

Planet Coaster 2 is an all new sequel to Planet Coaster which was their 2nd game after Elite Dangerous and started their very popular "Planet" franchise, so it is highly anticipated in the wider industry, it uses the same Cobra Engine as Elite Dangerous so in theory Elite Dangerous could benefit indirectly from the work. It will be interesting to see the Cash Flow (costs v revenue) graph for ED next Financial year!

in terms of time then sure..... in terms of content however there is a hell of a lot which I expected and FD talked about for future expansions who h never came. the gap between horizons and Oddy was far too long and add to that Oddy was a broken mess when it did eventually launch.
maybe I was at fault for being naive but I genuinely thought we would have had at least 2 more paid expansions by now over what we had.
it is what it is and I have had my monies worth and yet it could have been so much more

"They are more than capable of handling simultaneous projects, which is why there is only one per year, sequentially, and Elite is entering a "tolerate" phase so won't be a demand on time at all."

I think you need to talk me through the logic of that again...

That is not.
PC2 will most probably use the JWE2 version Cobra Engine or an improved version of it. Which ED is not using.

People who say this do not understand the fundamental way a large software deployment is done.

To decouple the ship from the other updates at this late stage would probably delay both by more than a week.

It's a game, chill out... It'll be released and you'll get your ship soon enough.

Go earn some Arx (or real life money to buy them) ready for paint jobs etc.

J
In retrospect if they initially had ship distribution separate to major game updates, they could consistently apply new ships to the game. Charge Arx for variants & continually farm coin for limited edition ship & skins as appose to having major overhauls to the system.

I for one would happily spend more arx on ships that where out without being available fully in game. One time only deals would increase revenue & in game experience IMO

The only thing restricting them adding new ships to the game is them, presumably due to dev resources time and overall business plans. Not tying ships to game updates.

Maybe if they raise a lot of money from this years ships they will increase the number of new ships, who knows. But I suspect it's significant dev time to design balance and add new ships.

It will be a very sad day when this game eventually gets shut down. Despite the flaws there is no game that quite scratches that itch for me like Elite Dangerous does. I don't know if I could ever find a game that could properly replace it in that case. I selfishly wish it never shuts down though I know nothing is forever.
