Preparing for PZ2 metawishlist

If the average forum user care enough about rabbit breeds and different species of Asian wild ass, then they probably know a handful of buck breeds (ex. Indian runner, American Pekin, crested).

Yeah I feel like it'd be opening a can of worms. And tbh the concept and system of subspecies, breeds and populations is already a can of worms. I feel like if we add duck, goose, etc. we could well be adding dozens more like NA black bear, markhor, wild cat, etc.

Eg. there were a bunch of people specifically asking for kulan or persian onager, as well as Flemish giant rabbit, but I haven't seen anyone asking for a specific domestic duck breed. Ever. In fact I've seen some people asking specifically for Cinammon bear or Kermode bear, which would make stronger case tbh.
I'll try to be lenient and add those to the template, but of course all of them are optional as the vast majority of people won't know or won't care about these. Something like:

MAIN
Chicken breed
Donkey breed
Horse breed
Cattle breed
Sheep breed
Goat breed
Pig breed
Wolf
Tiger
Leopard
Lion
Mountain lion
Brown bear
Takin
Giraffe
Plains zebra
Asiatic wild ass
African buffalo
Bighorn sheep
Asian elephant

OPTIONAL
Rabbit breed
Duck breed
Goose breed
North American black bear
Asian black bear
Moose
Markhor

I think laying it out like this with all these arbitrary exceptions only helps my argument for adding Latin names, would prevent all these headaches :p

This is a good point the american black bear should be on the list especially since frontier has a history with black bear subspecies.

on the point of duck breeds the mallard and domestic duck are often considered the same species so even at the basic level the discussion would be around that. Whilst maybe not common on the meta wishlist likely due to lots of ducks being separate species duck breeds are common in zoo with multiple appearing in my zoo sighting lists

1) Dealing with different names for the same animal species. That was one of the most energy-draining issues when using Excel to tally the votes. And this method doesn't seem to solve it? It would still need manual and vote-by-vote checking to group the votes where necessary (eg. Lar gibbon + white handed gibbon). People like @Fini could do that I guess but requires lots of time. I believe Suzie's code can already automatically handle that for a decent number of species.
I'm late, sorry. I'm always very busy on the weekends, I just saw that you sent me the Discord invitation and quickly joined.
That's not really a big problem, we just need to agree on a way of writing. The only problem is spelling mistakes, and I might need someone to correct them with me. If I work on it alone, it takes a little longer because I don't always have time for it.
In my work I'm used to sorting and sometimes renaming large amounts of data. Actually with numbers, but there's hardly any difference, the principle is the same.

I'm not sure how those work but to be safe I would just do as much as you can do here on the forums, when it comes to gathering information for the wishlists. :)
So I guess 390 Strawpoll links in a single post might not be appropriate then.

For returning species it could be a unified format, where you copy the template from the first post. A numerical average could be pretty easy to get with something like the following, being a fairly simple copy paste to a google sheet:

I would personally rather a species just be cut entirely than being expected to pay premium. Otherwise you just promote anti-consumer practices IMO

Pretty cool idea although I think we will end up just including regular species in the wishlist and not treating them any different to new species

With giraffes as far as I know basically all taxonomists agree there is multiple species it's just a case of how many.

I was just looking up giraffes, and it seems the taxonomy is contested. The most consistent recent literature seems to suggest four species, but I'm not sure which is the most accepted.
Yeah that's why I figured I would add them anyway but I can see why each species could have a separate slot in a potential PZ2 meta-wishlist.
