The Amiga version was a disk swapping nightmare. Amiga Power gave it 55% for the A500 version. I especially like Stuart Campbells review of the CD32 version in which he said "its a bit like dog fighting in Elite but slower and less playable" https://amr.abime.net/review_1519

I mostly played it on the A1200 installed on my whopping 80megabyte HDD. it was still sluggish on that but so much better than on the A500 (and had more colours)
however it wasn't until I got my super fast (aka rubbish) IBM Blue Lightning 486 DX3 75 PC that it really ran as it was meant to

Nah, even on a good pc it was still a tiny cockpit window chasing terrible bitmaps hamstrung by lag. Style over substance.

And I didn't like the style.
to each their own. everyone is entitled to an opinion (even if yours is wrong ;) )

Elite is,.and probably will always be my all time favourite game.... but I will always have a soft spot for the wing commander, privateer and strike commander games.

:sneaky: don't tell anyone but seem to remember owning privateer or maybe privateer2 but never really got into it.

I think my problem with WC specifically is it's like the old Barbarian game in the late 80's. You really wanted it to be good, you even thought it was good for a while, but then you realised it was all superficial and the same jerky sprites did the same jerky things every time you played.

Meanwhile when he converted Jon Ritmans Matchday to the BBC Micro he insisted on having his name front and centre.

Wow, so many games I could use this same quote for, and most are at least partly the fault of Chris Roberts.
