What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I'm currently considering starting over my zoo. I'm struggling with the layout, and may have to shift things around a lot. Besides, there's plenty of unfinished parts that I don't know how to finish and it's all starting to bother me a lot. I'm very happy with a major part of the zoo, but others just don't seem to fit well. I will try to get something done with bulldozing, but not sure anymore if that'll be enough.
how about an overview? maybe some peps here got some neat idears?

Do it! I had the same problem. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I actually like my remodeled zoo so much better than what I originally built.

The prop factory has reopened its doors and this time it's for the birds of the world. From an overly ambitious collection of 700+ new bird species, it has been revised to a much more manageable collection of 300. Still tons of work but kind of need that many species for a collection called birds of the world. Basically the birds of the world will release 30 species packs, 2 for each continent except oceania and europe. Oceania already has tons of birds made but I still have requests coming in for more.

So I've completed habitats for the little blue penguin, cassowary, Japanese macaque (I don't know why I'm so obsessed with these guys at the moment) and siamang. No pictures just now, but damn I wish we had the PC2 foliage brush. I'm trying to plant up the areas around the paths, giving it a similar vibe to Wellington Zoo, which is quite lush around the entrance area, but it's so so so boring.

The terrain is too varied to make myself a stamp, too.

Also, I wish we had like one more "large" cabbage tree. Since learning that cabbage trees (and nikau palms, for that matter) were introduced to the UK, I'm using them a lot more to add a tropical-style splash to areas of foliage.

Today I have been trying to blend a transition between the plaster and the rustic stone walls... Overall I think the idea looks OKish and it will look better when I add even more decals. But at certain hours the oblique light betrays me and the shadows start to look bad 😣

Can somebody plz quickly confirm me that my giraffe placeholder is the same height than a real ingame giraffe?? Otherwise I am going to be in trouble redesigning the shelter when its inhabitants arrive 😅

Looks to be slightly oversized. Should be easy to roughly measure tho, with the wall pieces being 4m, 2m and 1m.
Giraffe are usually between 4 and 5,5 meters tall

Honestly your best bet is to just build a small habitat around it, throw in a giraffe, and fiddle with it while checking the traversible area.

Edit: As Marvin said, a 6m height should be fine, but the width is the finicky part.

Next world zoo challenge as I said was the Madasgcar segment, and hopefully at least partially finished in time to benefit from the next challenge, by converting the Zoolympics created zoo into a World Zoo covering Aldabra and Madagascar.

I've made the basic mark up, invisi barrier and pathing to give me a general idea of where I want things. All animals are present in the exisitng zoo area apart from the Aldabran Tortoise. So, it's theoretically just a shift of animals and reworking how the guests can see them such as the marked out safari routes.

Aldabra Tortoise at the top
Coquerel's Sifaka ( top left ) and Red Ruffled Lemur ( top right )
Fossa (centre left ) and Black and White Lemur ( centre right )
Ring tailed Lemur ( left of the entrance ) and Flamingo ( right of the entrance ).

I might have a boat ride going up and down the coasts on the left and right and crossing from the main land to the aldabra island - yes I know its closer than it should be but then again, Madasgcar is a lot smaller than it should be rofl. It all depends on whether I can build a coast line close enough to the habitats to be feasible for a boat viewing area.

Edit: Attempt 1 - It's a no go .. that 40k disappeared before completing the move for one of the animals rofl. Will start over with a clear slate and work my way up the island one animal at a time.
Attempts 2 and 3 were no go's as well. Considering I don't really need to pay out for animals it's surprising the money just dwindles trying to keep the guests happy while I add each habitat in. Of course it could be habitat size. I've been going for over maximum size so that they have plenty of land/water/climbing space to fit their needs once their population base has filled out.
Well, 4th attempt seems to be working well by starting at a minimal size rather than a huge size just to fit the area the zoo is representing. Ring tailed lemurs on the left ( which of course is one of the animals not counting towards the challenge ) and Flamingos on the right. Plenty of space on either outer side for expanding as space requirements are needed as the groups grow. As you can see I have a single main route up the main island of Madagascar and will continue the habitat-guest-habitat cycle for each animal group. The next two will be Fossa on the left and Black and White Lemur on the right. Starting with the lemurs so I can benefit from their releases for the challenge. Currently making between 5k and 9k a year depending on construction spending.

Nice, I wish I had the energy to do something like that, great stuff

Stage 2 seems to be still going strong .. somewhat. 4 times the guests though so added 2 more info stalls to boost the adoption kit sales and 2 more eating areas. With vending machines and a few stalls selling water.

Stage 3 should be Red Ruffed Lemur ( right) and Coquerel's Sifaka (left) rounding off the main island animals.

Today i could push in a little time to play so i continued building on the interior of the tapirs.
Sadly ran into the "issue" that i think that i like the pillars i used here more then those that i used in the rest of the build so potentially ill have some exchanging to do, but im quite happy with the interior so far, only needing some more finishing touches, planters and rocks in front and to finish the upper part of the walls where ill also put some vents and stuff, but im quite happy to have atleast settled on a layout, some key decorations and a new part for my wall motive that i can drag through the entire building, so good day

So, after a busy few days, I've finally been able to jump back in, and much to my relief I'm still keen on where this little zoo is going. First pic is an overview. Right opposite the entrance is the penguin underwater viewing. I had little blues in there, but now it's African penguins, but I'll probably switch back because, as I suspected, it's a little too small to be convincing for African penguins. The path ascends to the side of the penguin habitat, and opposite are the cassowaries (who have a chick now). Then you can either go back down again to the macaque viewing gallery or continue to overlook the lake. The other island contains a pair of siamangs, and as you can see they have one of those neat over-path skywalks, the idea being that the zoo added it in as an extra so it's not as fancy as some others (I have yet to see the siamangs use it, but alas).

So opposite the path on the next 'tier' above the lake will be my capuchins in a revamped 'cage' of sorts, next door to a binturong. Then, where the path curves up to the left will be the first African carnivores (I'm thinking a pair of spotted hyenas and maybe some cheetahs, but knowing me I'll forgo the cheetahs and do caracals instead or something). I'm also considering a small habitat opposite the lake on the lower tier but I'm not sure what for yet. I've got plans for meerkats, so maybe prairie dogs or something (I wish we had another mongoose for this, but at the same time I don't want a mongoose to take up a DLC slot). Anyway, that path is going to loop all the way around in a big circle, in the middle of which will be the one big savannah habitat, with giraffes being the main feature (plus ostriches, and then an antelope). Around it will be viewing spots, and more habitats (addax, zebras, Indian rhinos, okapi), plus a small Oceania section (wallaby walkthrough, devils, kiwi house, flying foxes). All that will comprise the zoo's eastern half. The western half is going to have a "children's zoo" with a little barnyard, giant anteaters, otters, and capybara, and a small reptile/tropical house, before extending north into a pseudo Asia section with red pandas, cranes, leopards, tigers, markhor, and finally giant pandas.

Got round to returning to my freshwater fish props, both the south america and europe freshwater packs are now complete. Atlantic salmon, red-bellied piranha, red tail catfish, arapaima, wels catfish, and european perch are just a few examples of the new fish props.

Stage 3 and 4 are now done but .. the boat transport and Aldabra island addition has aided towards the significant money loss. So .. time to boost guest happiness again rofl. Anyway, picture time.. yes, it's foggy again rofl.
