Powerplay Konfused about turning in PP data

I randomly (not for any mission or tasking) picked up some PP data, and I can't seem to figure out how/where to turn these in. Specifically: Power Association Data, Power Industrial Data, & Power Political Data; all from the Futhorc system. I have looked at the various interface descriptions, and I'm sure it must be stated somewhere but I'm just not seeing it; but everywhere I try to turn them in, they aren't being accepted. I'm seeing that I've tried non-allied systems, and that didn't work; also I get an "out of range" note in other systems. I have done some minimal searching for this answer but again I am not finding my answer. I'm assuming that there must be criteria such as range from the point of obtaining, power alignment, and state requirements but I can't seem to find the specific combination. I am aligned to ALD. Can someone please bop me on the head and point me to the directions that I am not seeing regarding how/where to turn in these data?

You'll need to find a friendly Fortified system within 20 LY of Futhorc or a Stronghold system within 30 LY.

HR 571 looks like it should work, from the map.

Thank you very much! They say, that if you give a man a fish, you have fed him for a day, but if you teach a man to fish, you have fed him for the rest of his life. Could you please tell me how you came to know that, and where the other similar requirements are found? This way, I may not have to ask another dumb question. Thanks!

Acquisition systems are always linked to a Fortified/Stronghold system (this is in the player handbook) so a lot of their activities need to be done with respect to that linked system (this is sometimes in the player handbook and has sometimes been figured out through trial and error [1]). Some might be linked to multiple Fortified/Stronghold systems, depending on position - in that case, any will do.

The 20 and 30 LY ranges aren't, so far as I can tell, mentioned anywhere explicitly. Those have been worked out using the "Strategic View" button carefully hidden on the galaxy map interface (screenshot: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/powerplay-v2-week-1-first-impressions.629496/#post-10474915) which is what I used to figure out HR 571 was the likely supporter here.

[1] A lot of "how do I know this" is "hanging around here, hanging around on [one of?] my Power's Discord, and in-game with a lot of testing things myself". But the player handbook pages are mostly accurate if not always complete for a lot of the basics.

I'm having trouble here as well. In my case I grabbed PP data in Siki, which is well within the range (less than 20LY) of the Nakato stronghold system HR 4803, but when I return to that system I can't turn in anything that I have and it says "out of range."

Assuming you're pledged to Kaine that should have worked - undermining data shouldn't even have a range on it, though we can't rule out bugs... and I was doing various bits of undermining run out of HR 4803 last week with no problems.

(If you're pledged to Winters then you probably need to be running the data in the opposite direction)

so i have powerplay data i cant turn in, cant see where i got it or where to deliver them. is there a way to find out where i got it?

I have the same issue - data out of range - but I can't get round it.

Pledged: ALDuval

Ch'iang Fe is a fortified ALD system 8LY away and it's out of range. The connecting line on Strategic View points here.

The nearest stronghold systems are 63LY away.

This is a bug, right?

If there's a bug it's just that "Out of range" is the wrong error message to show in this situation.

Stealing Odyssey items from settlements isn't a Reinforcement action, so you can't transfer data between two of your own systems this way.

Options:
1) Sell it to the bartender (gets it out of your storage and a bit of cash, but no merits)
2) Hang on to it forever just on the chance that HR 5113 gets successfully undermined, so you can then hand it in to Ch'iang Fe after that to try to reacquire it.
3) [Untested, probably unpopular] Give it to a friend in another Power so that they can use it to undermine HR 5113 and get some merits for it.

Ha! Okay.

Odd though. Some of it is Classified Pdata which I need for the weekly task.

So far I’ve been able to hand in 8 but I have a pile of out of range Classified data too.

Maybe some is quest_item and some is random loot.

Anyway, thanks for the insight!

I have only just realised this means an Acquisition system surrounded by three Fortifying systems would mean it's a one-in-three chance of knowing whether a given mission or assignment will help. That explains why I couldn't figure it out at all when I naively thought learning in a busy part of the Bubble might be a good idea.

It should work from any of them in that case, from what I've seen so far - I'd be very interested in the details if you've found a counterexample!

Ok folks, (including the super knowledgeable @Ian Doncaster) I'm still having trouble. I have some PP commodities that I got in the Gende system. Gende is an ALD Fortified system. Why am I unable to turn them in at the Bragur system, which is also an ALD Fortified system, and only 6.02 LY away from Gende? Where can I turn them in?

I ran into that trap today too. The game actually tells you this in the pickup screen, the commodities for fortification have to be picked up in a stronghold system. Commodities for acquisition can also be picked up in fortified systems. I think.

Anyway, I had to do that for my weekly and had to pick up my commodities in a stronghold system. In my case, I couldn't even pick up the commodities, I don't know why.

I'm not talking about those commodities, in game I think you are talking about what is labeled on the screen as "deliverables" and I am talking about on the same screen as "Powerplay Resources". Although when you read about these things in game, in the codex which sometimes differs from game screens, and in discussions, they are also called commodities, materials, and there are inconsistencies in nomenclature all over the bleeping place, which is a damn good way to cause this kind of confusion.

So this is what I have:
  • Powerplay acquisition cargo bay 1t commodity: collect from Fortified/Stronghold, deliver only to supported Acquisition target
  • Powerplay reinforcement cargo bay 1t commodity: collect from Stronghold, deliver to any other friendly control system
  • Powerplay undermining cargo bay 1t commodity: collect from Stronghold, deliver to any enemy control system
  • Powerplay acquisition Odyssey data: collect from Fortified/Stronghold, upload to data points at any Acquisition target (this does not seem to care where you picked it up)
  • Powerplay undermining Odyssey data: collect from Fortified/Stronghold, upload to data points at any enemy control system
  • Odyssey settlement downloaded Powerplay data and stolen Powerplay goods from Acquisition system: deliver to your Fortiifed/Stronghold system supporting the acquisition
  • Odyssey settlement downloaded Powerplay data and stolen Powerplay goods from Undermining system: deliver to any friendly system Powerplay contact
  • Odyssey settlement downloaded Powerplay data and stolen Powerplay goods from Reinforcement system: junk, sell it to the bartender for cash, you can't reinforce your own systems this way

Sadly this is my situation. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

FDev: it's really sad that you can't get the info above in game; especially when players unknowingly have "junk" and waste time trying to use them to support PP 2.0 powers.

This one technically is in-game, in that the various "Power XXX Data" actions are listed under the Acquisition and Undermining sections, but not in the Reinforcement section, in the Pilot's Handbook.

But it is an issue with the format that remembering which things weren't in each list is harder than remembering which things were. "Out of Range" is the wrong error message to hint at that, too.
