Elite Dangerous | Ascendancy Update 1 - Thursday 21st November

What's wrong with delivering escape pods in reinforcement systems? I just offloaded to a Kaine's power contact almost twenty pods and got no merits :///

If the settlement isn't an anarchy faction, this is working as intended. Always make sure a settlement raid is for an anarchy settlement or you're cool with getting bounties/notoriety for the clean targets.
Sorry - these are scavenger settlement raids. That's why I was so confused. It's only happened after the update. First time I ever saw "clean" scavengers.

i guess the problem is that there still exists a cheesy way to collect pods (you can hatch break your own power's stronghold carrier or something like that).

Your not in the BUBBLE.
It's "you're" as in "You're mistaken," not "your" as in "Your judgement on this issue is misguided."

Explorers don't live outside the bubble. If they did, your objection still wouldn't hold water, as they can't sell exploration data outside the bubble for merit. Explorers venture outside the bubble, in the case of Powerplay, pledged to a faction, gathering data for the improvement of knowledge, and therefore technology, and therefore all aspects of life within the bubble, and then they return to the bubble, and they transfer that knowledge to systems within their power's influence to increase their power's overall influence throughout the bubble. You're welcome. Then they get in their combat/trade/mining/whatever ship and do everything else you're doing, because explorers are richer than the devil, and have the patience and discipline to excel at all walks of gameplay, and therefore generally aren't just explorers.

The apostrophe example I always like is the crucial difference between "your lunch" and "you're lunch". :)

Ah, yeah that makes a difference. That said, I have run into this bug before... but that was a LONG time ago. If they are scavs, they shouldn't be clean.

While on restoring power missions I've always annoyed that ship (its pilot) which brings scavengers' reinforcement is always clean and when shot even once I have an instant bounty. Probably those clean NPCs are skunky pilots of reinforcement ships :)

Greetings Commanders,

Powerplay 2.0 has been out for a few weeks now and we are really grateful for all the feedback and reported issues you have shared.

Our intent with our balancing is to ensure a diversity of gameplay activities are viable within Powerplay 2.0, and that no activity feels significantly weaker than any other. We are continually closely monitoring for any activities which could be disproportionally more advantageous to undertake than any other, potentially creating a meta that players feel forced to play in order to rank up or participate in the conflict.

Following prevention of several exploits we will now be in a position to improve balance on the overall experience of Powerplay 2.0. We will be closely looking into:
  • Significantly reducing the amount of time/effort required to earn early modules
  • Significantly reducing the amount of time/effort required to increase ranks
In the meantime we are releasing Ascendancy Update 1 (19.01) on Thursday 21 November.

Release Schedule (All times in UTC)

  • 07:00 - Servers offline for maintenance
  • 11:00 Servers back online and Update available
Please note these are approximate times and are subject to change.

Update Notes

Powerplay 2.0
  • Fixed an exploit where Powerplay Data could be downloaded multiple times from the same Data Port (Issue ID: 67329)
  • Aisling Duval's Powerplay systems now correctly flag Imperial Slaves & Narcotics as illegal. Crime does not pay.
  • Archon Delain Powerplay systems now correctly open Black Markets if they are not already present. OK...here crime might pay.
  • Pranav Antal now closes Black Markets in Fortified/Stronghold systems.
  • Merit awards for destroying Ship Launched Fighters have been reduced.
Ships
  • Adjustments made to Flight Tutorial combat drones reducing their damage output.
  • Type-8's collision has been adjusted so that the "arms" now have correct collision.
Galaxy Map
  • Resolved a crash when using VR Power Play strategic view on Galaxy map
  • Filters on the Galaxy Map are no longer auto selected when you hover your mouse over them
Thank you for all your continued feedback and reports!
I believe some of the odyssey data is still unlisted. I just collected this Power Industrial Data from the same system and cannot turn it in, because it's 'out of range'.

So this is what I have:
  • Powerplay acquisition cargo bay 1t commodity: collect from Fortified/Stronghold, deliver only to supported Acquisition target
  • Powerplay reinforcement cargo bay 1t commodity: collect from Stronghold, deliver to any other friendly control system
  • Powerplay undermining cargo bay 1t commodity: collect from Stronghold, deliver to any enemy control system
  • Powerplay acquisition Odyssey data: collect from Fortified/Stronghold, upload to data points at any Acquisition target (this does not seem to care where you picked it up)
  • Powerplay undermining Odyssey data: collect from Fortified/Stronghold, upload to data points at any enemy control system
  • Odyssey settlement downloaded Powerplay data and stolen Powerplay goods from Acquisition system: deliver to your Fortiifed/Stronghold system supporting the acquisition
  • Odyssey settlement downloaded Powerplay data and stolen Powerplay goods from Undermining system: deliver to any friendly system Powerplay contact
  • Odyssey settlement downloaded Powerplay data and stolen Powerplay goods from Reinforcement system: junk, sell it to the bartender for cash, you can't reinforce your own systems this way

I know that some of them work, I was able to turn in several thousand merits worth, but many of them also don't work. One way or the other, seems buggy.

Research and industrial data doesn't count for reinforcement systems, according to the Pilots' Handbook information (assuming "same system" means it's a reinforcement system).

And if it's not a reinforcement system, it still can't be turned in to that system - undermining it would need returning to any friendly system, acquisition it would need returning to the supporting system.

Much as I'm enjoying PP2 it certainly seems to have failed in its original goal of making PP simpler. Having hidden ranges and arcane rules about what goes where is fine(ish) in a hidden system like the BGS, but when it is something players are intended to interact with ...

All FD need to do is put the calculations or values in the UI in the relevant places.

IIRC The BGS got this when FD released the black box values, and there is nothing stopping FD doing the same for PP2.

While there are certainly some areas where the documentation needs improving - and the ranges are at least visible on the map view, even if not quoted explicitly in writing - it is still simpler than PP1, and while the location requirements certainly need to be made a lot clearer they do at least follow a very consistent pattern (Acquisition -> to/from supporter ; Reinforcement -> local/from anywhere ; Undermining -> local/to friendly)

I'd say the key areas for improvement are:
- fix the bits where the Pilots Handbook either doesn't mention a key location requirement, or (undermining salvage) mentions the wrong one
- add the same detail about locations to the weekly mission descriptions to improve their "tutorial" function
- have more error codes than "out of range" for "you can't hand this in here"

https://heatmap.sotl.org.uk/powers/refcard needs a bit of work as a "fill in the gaps" page but it's still fairly short.

I'm not sure the traditional 'explain harder' is the best solution (though it will probably be what we end up with).

Modern games tend to point people to quest goals, and given we have a Strategy view the game could probably suggest where to take things (maybe a 'where do I go?' button.

That still doesn't help with things like 'where do I mine to reinforce system X?'. I suppose they could add Inbox messages from your power (Hey, we see you have mined good from X - if you can deliver them to Y it would really help us out). A lot of extra work though.

This is actually where the organized PP groups can fill in the gap. Unfortunately, that doesn't help the PP solo commanders 🤷‍♂️
