Stalker 2

Well, I've finally made it to Rostock, and it's quite an interesting experience going back to somewhere that was so familiar to find it changed in some minor and some significant ways.

Overall I'm enjoying the game, it certainly feels like a STALKER game - which is good for me! However, I can equally understand those not familiar with the zone feeling a bit 'less impressed'. This is not a game/series that flatters players, and it doesn't 'feed' you. They've always been more a walking adventure that needs to be positively engaged with, and time taken. Rushing anywhere/anything can often end with 'problems'.

That said, the bullet-sponge mutants are a stupidly tough and a really tiresome chore... albeit easy to mod into a more reasonable state... on PC... with no controller-drifting... and having overly-accurate NPC's gets plenty tiresome very quickly - finding the military armor has proven to be helpful!

Massive respect to the devs for delivering this game, considering the circumstances.

Currently playing through S1, as I've never actually finished any of the games in series. Hopefully by the time I'm done with them, S2 will be all nicely patched and the modding scene for it matured to provide some great mods.

Can't wait!

Seconded!

S1 is one of the few games that will still give me a scare on almost every play-through.

If you're playing on PC, make sure that you play modded with (I'd suggest) Complete.

There are a shed load of other add-ons/mods too! I even wrote/compiled a few myself.

I only use the basic mod collection to fix some bugs and balance the weapons and armours. Wanted to have as close to vanilla experience as I could :)

It's a great game even in this day and age!

Fair doos, and yes ShoC has great sense of atmosphere and of 'being there'. (Ditto S2)

As best I recall Complete doesn't change the story or experience much, but does smooth off some rough edges, and (I think) makes it look a bit nicer.

In any event, enjoy, and I hope you get the decoder! (Make sure that you go seek out Doc after X-16... it's too easy to miss this 'sub' task...)

Ha, already seen the Doc and now I know the big secret :)

I think it's a bit too late for me to change mods, as I'm already way too far in the game to change it visually, it'd feel weird I think. Just entered the northern side of the bar recently - to give you some idea where I am :)

Makes me wonder.

I've added Axxii's Stealth Mod (v1.9) whilst also increasing Environment Draw Distance (in options -> graphics) to 'Epic'.

Now, this all may just be a coincidence but the micro-stutter that was irritating me seems to have been much improved/resolved since.

YMMV.

The stick drift when using a controller makes it virtually unplayable, I actually thought the pots on my Elite V2 controller were on the way out...besides it only being a few months old. I switched over to the Nacon V5 pro I use on the PS5 (which has contactless sensors on the sticks rather than potentiometers) only to find it just as bad. They seriously want to sort that out amongst the myriad of other bugs 😐
Latest patch has just hit Steam and this is in the notes

  • Increased gamepad dead zones

Ditto GOG - 10Gb in size.

I'm preparing for mod-mageddon... 🫣

e. and they've fixed the shader warm-up!!
Now! This is interesting! They haven't fixed the shader compilation/warm-up issue.

And this has revealed that any/all mods in (seemingly) any sub-directory in the \pak folder will be incorporated. Viz:

ModsNods.jpg

...which, despite it being in the 'nods' folder, still takes effect!!
