Ganking People in Sol

Weren't they playing the game the whole time? How precious is time spent on a video game? Because, that's what we're blathering on about.
one could argue they were playing other peoples' game, and that's time wasted. If you're a 15 year old kid wasting their time playing Fortnite lolling around, the game time isn't probably as precious. When you're a mid-50s grown man with little game time to begin with between work and other daily tasks, your time is probably a little more precious and you want to spend it doing things you enjoy rather than trying to avoid being other peoples' "Lolz".

Care for some story time with uncle Helmut?

Some time ago I returned from an AX group event that happened to be in open to end my play session on my carrier. It was parked in some random system, and yet it had an amateur ganker parked at its star waiting for "emergent gameplay" to arrive. I arrived there in a fast, near indestructable tank, so there was never any real danger. But the muppet kept pulling me over and over - same thing every time: They pull me, I boost away being too fast for them, they lunge a few unmotivated pot shots at me that never really scratched the surface, I wave bye and high wake. They didn't get the memo and kept pulling me over and over, so in the end I either blocked them or changed mode - I don't remember. Anyway, that was not fun gameplay, I assume neither was it for them (no ship go boom), but it was a huge waste of my time, and probably theirs too. I didn't play my game, I spent my time trying not to play their game.

My limited game time is too precious to spend it with people that are no fun or I don't want to play with. So I play it smart and don't go to places like Sol or Deciat or CGs in open in the first place. Some people obviously take a bit longer to learn that lesson.

If you do this currently you're not human you're a Thargoid and should be treated as such.

Go gank humans anyplace else now.

I usually fly in Open unless I don’t have time for the nonsense you experienced.

Go gank humans anyplace else now. No problem with ganking, only being a filthy traitor to humanity.
Might as well ask a dog not to eat its vomit.

PvP players : "Why not make PvP easier to find within the context of dedicated, consensual mechanics such as powerplay...?"

Forum regulars "No, stop asking FDEV for more victims ganker.."

Also forum regulars : "Why are there loads of gankers at the Sol Thargoid event trying to kill us? This is ridiculous, they are traitors (lol)"

This is how the game has been designed.. Make PvP in general hard to find and the gankers will just camp the high traffic areas.. Powerplay 2 has not fixed this, so business as usual continues.

I visited Sol tonight, hoping for a good fight - but the lag was awful, wanted targets were rubberbanding all over the place...

Makes it hard to commit a rubbery...I suppose FDev making instancing better is a bit of a stretch ;)
(But seriously though, with 99% of Cmdrs it was unplayable and this isn't a problem I usually have)

No, it was designed exactly the other way: to make it fun for every user purchased game during last decade. Nothing (including PowerPlay x.0) will ever "fix" that for pew-pewers because its not broken! That is how it supposed to work. Anything else is pure imagination of gankers wrapped in PvP Open "fairness".
Why not to accept: do you like Open - enjoy it. Does somebody interfering you with that?

Ganking itself is ethically disgusting, and nothing could be done with that fact that people (abstract) you've ganked will call it that way. Actually, they can call any way they want, right? BTW attacking and then fighting with somebody less capable was disgusting IRL 1000 years ago, now, and it seems like after 1300 it will be as well.

They will all crawl on the forums and complain about players not playing in open 🙄
Its actually quite opposite of that. The ones who "crawl" on forums to complain all the time, are victims themselfs, since I can recall hundreds posts of them complain about being ganked in open, while I can hardly recall anyone who would ever complain about lack of victims in open.

I can literally ask everyone from top 100 from gankers.org about if any of them is concerned about being blocked too much, and preety sure all of them would say same:
"We dont care". Neither I would. My name isnt at that list, because I am not using any 3rd apps, but if would register on it, then would be no.2 at it. So yeah, go ahead and block me as well, but since my in-game name is diffrent, well, good luck with that... unless happen to bump into me in open and eat rebui or evade, thats it.

Its nice for such as yourself (well as quite many here) have dreams about seeing "blocked gankers coming here to complain", but in end, its like wild monkey reachin its hand to night sky, hoping to reach the stars... it wont ever happen. But hey, one can hope right? Why someone might wonder... its quite simple.

Even if all forum users would block all the gankers, gankers still would not run out of targets. Not only because how blocking work by itself along of how instancing works, but also with that many cmdrs flying around in open, with steady amount of new ones, every month. Hence, no one will ever complain, cuz why even bother complain if open is so full of targets?

But its quite hilarious to see that many here thinks they can "fix" open, by thinkin that by blocking alone would cause open being empty for ones they blocked. Ingorance at its finest.

Lol triggered much. Congrats for being part of the problem and one of the reasons solo is popular

Ethics and morality are about as subjective as anything gets. Personally, I have never pinned any strong negative ethical connotations on playing a game within the rules of that game.

I do acknowledge that some behaviors that are technically within the realm of the rules can be disruptive, but 'ganking', given that it can be at least superficially contextual, is easily countered it is, and how low the stakes are, barely even registers here. I've never really understood the outsized reaction ganking produces.

BTW attacking and then fighting with somebody less capable was disgusting IRL 1000 years ago, now, and it seems like after 1300 it will be as well.

As far as I can tell, pretty much all animals, up to and including behaviorally modern humans, go to great lengths to avoid fighting their equals or betters, and almost always seek to stack the odds of any potentially violent confrontation as heavily in their favor as possible. Literally hundreds of millions of years of selection have selected against doing dumb stuff like fighting a harder fight than needed to accomplish one's goals.

Humanity has wrapped all sorts of baggage around this, but we still behave the same way, and this behavior is accepted. The world functions on a might makes right doctrine because that's the only way it can. We form organizations that attempt to monopolize the use of violence to impose order. Violence is a tool and resource; we go to great lengths to use it as efficiently as possible. We don't send armies to fight fair fights, unless we're desperate. We don't make a habit of sending police into dangerous situations without sufficient support to maximize their safety and minimize their risk. To do anything that would even suggest we were looking for a fair fight, where anything is actually at stake, is generally regarded as criminal if there is any responsibility beyond the personal. The self-aggrandizement of seeking honor though taking unneeded risk has been lauded at times and makes for some good stories, but more often than not is viewed as negligently reckless and selfish, if not a treasonous dereliction of duty.

I'm not even sure what it is about fighting a stronger foe that one would think changes the ethical considerations of the conflict. I root for the underdog too (and I like playing the underdog in games like this, which is very hard to do without things like 'gankers' around, or absurd levels of self-handicapping), but an underdog with a crappy goal and crappy means isn't any more righteous than someone with an overwhelming advantage doing the same thing for the same crappy reasons.

Within the context of the game's setting, there is no reason for ganking to be treated differently than any other assault. Maybe the penalties could be higher, but that's never gone over well with the bulk of players. Casual players tend to be both consequences adverse and to bear the brunt of consequences that more experienced players can avoid.
