Elite Dangerous | Cobra MK V Update - 12 December 2024

For exobiology the ship can't be small enough. It actually turned my Sidewinder into one of my most flown ships.

Yeah, I use my DBS regularly as a lander. Small ships also excel at courier runs, whereas medium ships can get docking-throttled waiting for a medium pad to open up on an orbital outpost. They also make good ships for data retrieval missions.

I'm not so sure that's true. Certainly, some players will spend their time in one ship. I've spent a lot of my time in a Python Mk. II recently, but this has been due to a combination of circumstances that don't often arise; I'm not always chasing the PvE combat meta. Sometimes I like to take breaks from maximising my in-game 'work' and do ground combat and settlement raids. Small ships are excellent for this. Then there's exobiology, also known as "how to get a fleet carrier in a week", for which small ships are the meta.

The Cobra Mk. V should boost to well over 600m/s with a standard build, haul over 80t, jump over 50LY and be quite handy in combat with its 5 hardpoints. I expect it to be better than lower-end medium ships like the T6 and Asp Explorer for most tasks.

The more ships the better.
Well I stand corrected. Though I still imagine the part of the community that uses small ships mainly is probably a minority compared to the others. Again I might be wrong. I guess to me with the advent of engineering and Horizons medium ships got so ludicrously maneuverable there isn't a lot of point to being even more maneuverable. I guess if someone is in the scenario of needing to trade at odyssey posts then that is different. To be frank once I realized Odyssey didn't correlate to ship game play I never did much with it because I play ED and space games to fly the ships so not my jam. But to each their own.

Thanks for the heads up on the extension. On a side note - any advance on the currently disabled Powerplay merit activities? Penny for your feedback on the trade merits problem caused by logarithmic merit reduction per ton sold? Sell 1 t making say 12 merits for the ton, sell 2t and get 16 merits making 8 for the ton and down the cargo merit value goes :(

We will find out soon, but I'm expecting this to be a strong contender as the favorite ship for many players, especially if the SCO is as smooth as the Mandalay's.

Has to be said that an A rated Sidewinder is immensely fun to fly.

Speaking of Cocijo, somebody better check Ross 154 as soon as the servers are up just in case the Titan pulled a fast one.

I'd forgotten about the integrated SCO.

I fully expect to spend a lot of time in it, although I'm not sure if it can ever replace the DBS.
