CG FSD vs Engineered 6A FSD on a Jumpaconda?

Depends on goal. If going fast, getting to the places to explore and like being very light on your feet is the goal, then Mandy will do that all day long.

If you want to travel in luxury, with fighter bays and various other accoutrements, and are in no rush at all, then Anaconda will carry all that bouge nonsense and jump further than anything else (including Mandy).

Anaconda is a generalist ship blessed with a mass that other ships can only dream of. That puts it in a unique and valuable position for so many functions.

As you said, it depends on the goal. If the goal is a min/maxed long range jumper, then the Mandalay is now king.

With the typical explorer loadout (shield, AMFU, Hanger Bay, repair controller/cargo bay, surface scanners) I would also argue the Anaconda is outdated. It can carry all that easily, and can match the Mandalay range. It cannot match SCO ease of use/fuel efficiency, SC agility, or normal space speed/agility.

If you want the fun extras, fighter bay, bigger hanger, and range... then yes, that is where the Anaconda shines.

Personally though, I'd take my Corvette as at least I enjoy flying it. The Anaconda handles like a brick in a tub of honey.

My first long range trip to Beagle Point was in an Anaconda. She has earned a good rest now.

To get the jump ranges the OP was mentioning, the Anaconda has to be stripped to its frame, equipped with underpowered core components, and leave most of its internals empty. It is then one of the worst flying experiences in the game, so while it would make a long voyage in fewer jumps, it was not a pleasant experience getting there. The Krait Phantom could jump 75 LY in a comfortable, fun-to-fly, fully equipped package and now the Mandaly can manage 85 with a similar loadout. When stripped down like a 90LY Anaconda, it only manages about 90 itself, but in a more flyable package. It will be interesting to see what either can do with the new drives.

Not sure which range figure you are thinking of, but mine has a 78ish jump and is not at all stripped down, because it's an SCO drive.
I think the IR+FB drive should give me another 6 ly, if I've done the calculations correctly.

I got the SCO Drive.

Put it on my Anaconda, and it bumbed my jump range up by another 10ly... I was originally jumping at max around 65'ish light years, close to 70 with minimal fuel.

I'm now jumping upwards of 77/78 on a full tank... close to 84 with minimal fuel.

Cone jet jumps up to 315 - 320.

My Anaconda is Engineered, but it is not FULLY engineered... as I don't yet have all of my components modded for lightwieght, maybe only half of them are done... and I also have an extra 4c fuel tank, two 5a AMFU's, a 5a repair limpet controller and I always carry a couple dozen limpets... though I am also able to synthesize more while I'm out there.

I'm sure if I were to finish engineering everything, take the exrtra fuel tank out, maybe lose one of the AMFU's... I might be able to push that jump range up just a smidge higher.

But for now, I'm fairly satisfied with what I've got...

I went into Coriolis for curisosity and tricked out a Mandalay with the same components, or as similar as I could get... and set them all to be engineered the same as my Conda...

Doesn't even come close to my jump range.

For the record, yes I am replying to this ... 2 months later...

I had to send Fdev a support ticket about the SCO Drive... as I had fallen and broken my arm pretty badly shortly before Titan Cocijo... tried to participate in some attack runs on it, but failed miserably cause I wasn't able to control my ship very well with one arm in a cast... and when the CG ended, I didn't get the rewards... so I contacted them about it, even offered to send them proof of my injury... I figured at the least they would say "sorry no, but thanks for trying!"

Well Fdev took a couple months to respond to my support ticket, but they finally did.

They gave me 400 million credits, and the SCO Drive.

This allowed me to participate in this last Brewer Corp CG... with just a few days left before it expired, as I hadn't logged on for about week so didnt notice it right away... I was able to cone jet jump out a few thousand lightyears with a couple 78'ish ly jumps inbetween Nuetron stars... get a few dozen systems scanned over the last few days, and then cone jet jumped back just as the Lockdown was lifted... sold my data and got in the top 50% of contributors!

So thanks to everyone who replied to this thread... and more importantly...

Thank you to Fdev for being generous to a guy who was feeling down and depressed over a serious injury...

You've restored my interest in wanting to get back out there, and explore even further out then I've ever gone before...

I think the furthest I've gone is up into the Formidine Rift... I think next I might try heading in towards Sag A... or maybe try a run out towards Colonia, and beyond...

maybe lose one of the AMFU's
No mass, nothing lost by keeping it. Though you shouldn’t need one unless you suffer excessive overheat damage or crash into exclusion zones too often, either. (I guess having two to reduce how often refills are needed is a good thing)

I started carrying the AMFU's after a rather unfortunate incident a few years a back during which I came down on a moon that had 1.7g gravity... after I finally came out of the Glide... my Conda was too heavy and I was in too steep a dive, and couldn't pull up fast enough... leveled her out just in time for her to Belly Flop right onto the surface and I promptly lost around 600+ Million worth in cartography data.

Granted, an AMFU wouldn't fix that.... but they have saved me a few times.

It is really nice out there - beyond Colonia! - just try it!

Its very tempting, especially now that the Colonia Bridge is finished.

Back when I first started playing this game, that trip would have taken me months to complete with the amount of time I have to spend playing.

Now, I believe I could probably do it within a weeks time.... but I'll wait until the rewards from the current Brewer CG (the new scanner) are given out as I want to add that to my JumpaExploraConda.

That's a good tool, for sure. Exploring is not rushing. I'd say: do it at your own pace and enjoy the sights and the tiny and bigger adventures on the road :) Visit the nebulas which are on the way to Colonia. Definitely a must-see for the first trip.
