Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I like this one. Their longstanding and ongoing tech problems were holding back the "content" so they're separating them. Somehow they're going to develop content separately from the tech required for it to function. And then they're going to mash it all back together at the end and that will somehow avoid the problems they would have discovered if they had tested it sooner.
In other words, they are going to keep doing what they've always done.

This part:

Hope some game press outlets pick up on this. In conjunction with the huge drop in new accounts it really paints a revealing picture.
Yeah, slowing down on signups is one thing, but having existing victims stop playing is something they should be alarmed by.

Almost expecting Croberts to send out white Nikes and packets of Flavr-Aid that have been tampered with to all subscribers in about a year.

I do find it somewhat ironic that Mike is flying around with a completely black cockpit a lot recently - considering how SC backers keep going on about the immersive ship interiors. Apparently it's because of DLSS, but I guess he needs to keep that on because performance is bad without it?

Guy has terrible buggy experience... determines SC is going to be great one day.

I swear, the world is getting dumber by the day.
Chris promised him a trip on his yacht?

And of course, in the comments, a faithful jumps in to explain you need to install it on an SSD. Clearly, because laptops that ship with a 3060 still use HDDs. Not sure if these accounts are bots or just dumb people.
Definitely a large proportion of bots IMO. Fake it till you make it 101.

More good news everyone!

The Lead Core Tech Producer has delivered Server Meshing. And so now he's leaving...

I have an announcement about my future at Cloud Imperium Games: I have now left the company.

Cloud Imperium has just released Alpha 4.0 to live with server meshing technology. This is a major milestone, and a small nudge on the needle for video game technology overall. This is really something amazing to celebrate.

As it happens, I joined CIG specifically to build the Core Tech Group and deliver the Server Meshing tech (clearly, I like a challenge).

Core Tech Group is now a thriving environment for some of the best game technology engineers in the industry. Server Meshing, after we rebooted it as a programme in late 2020, is now in players hands.

It genuinely is a great time to be the Lead Producer of Core Tech Group of Cloud Imperium Games.

And that is why I have just left. It is time for a new adventure.
But before that I am going to take some time away to be with my family and work on some of my own personal projects (that new Nvidia Jetson Orin looks very tempting…).

A little self-indulgent, but I would like to call out a few people at CIG who were pivotal in my time there and in delivering the tech that powers the most ambitious space games ever developed:

Chris Roberts : The only boss I have ever had who cares about coffee as much as I do. Thanks for the clear vision and letting me come and play with your toy box.

Erin Roberts: Thanks for allowing Core Tech Group the space and resources it needed to become the thriving entity it is today.

Benoit Beausejour: Thanks for always having a perspective I had not considered. Also thanks for the conversations on weird 80/90s OS and processor architectures.

Jared Huckaby: Thanks for the much-needed non-work conversations and our shared love of Airwolf/Blue Thunder/Muppets/Star Trek/DnD.

The Core Tech Producers: You are all awesome. Being agile is just the start of the journey.

The Core Tech Engineers: There was not a day at CIG where I did not see something new and awesome on an engineer’s screen. Thanks for engaging with myself and the other producers as we wrestled our development processes into submission to support you all.

The Server Meshing Strike Team: Genuinely I think this is the most enjoyable project I have worked on in my 30 year career. A real moon shot. I am sure that there are many folks who had little to no involvement who now want to take credit for this now it is a success. It was great working with you all, through the good times and the bad times.

For all my friends at CIG and myself, I am sure the best is yet to come!

So this 'moon shot' that gives the gaming tech needle a 'small nudge' can now be steered by some other soul. (Possibly the person he's aiming this strange sting at near the end? ;): 'I am sure that there are many folks who had little to no involvement who now want to take credit for this now it is a success.')

Oh and more from Insider Gaming... which seems related ;)

At the time of writing, Insider Gaming has heard of at least three executives with a combined experience of around 25 years at Cloud Imperium Games who have had their positions terminated. It’s said that announcements of their departures will be announced in due time.

...with rumors around the office even suggesting that Sandi Gardiner, the wife of Chris Roberts, is to return to the company in a more prominent role...

Very strange message 🤔 Mostly positive, but with some oddness.
Yeah, he is no doubt trying to position himself in the best light possible to get his next job. Or to be seen with good approving eyes by his new team if he has a job already. I mean, CIG is not going to complain much about that post even if false 😋

As for him saying:
I am sure that there are many folks who had little to no involvement who now want to take credit for this now [server meshing] is a success
Server meshing a "success" :ROFLMAO: . There must be long queues to take credit for that at CIG´s offices.

It did bring this spicy Glassdoor to mind 😁

Generally just lots of toxic behavior from all levels of staff who have only ever worked at Cloud as they scramble to be king of garbage mountain. More power to them, but it's a lot of energy to waste on what will ultimately be an absolute nothing burger at best, an industry wide punchline at launch at worst.

Its like an engine ticking over, nothing much is happening. Then come con lead-up they rev it a little, everyone who's bought in sits up, well wakes up and a smile to their face appears. Then the con is over (sorry for the pun) and the engine settles down and ticks over again. But don't worry they'll rev it again around the same time next year.

At some stage, maybe, they'll throw it into gear and hope for the best, but my bet is they like it just ticking over with that occasional rev (we all know when that happens).

Whatever this engine is in, isn't going anywhere much.

The 4.0 'let's pretend it's not another broken xmas PTU' download servers are also just ticking over...I guess we'll just have to wait until someone suitably technically supervised puts it into gear

Both Mike and Berks are getting solid 30fps from the servers, with low player numbs. (~35 on Mike's ~10 on Berks')

That's a lot better than EPTU was doing, even with low player counts. Was more like ~15.

Alongside CR's 'this landing zone gets a server, that planet gets a server' take I'm guessing they've spent some c-suite wages on server grunt for 'launch' ;).

Supposedly the ratio is 5:5:500 though, which is shy of 'per planet, per lz' etc. So poss just pure 'premium service' payola. (Shard count seems to be hovering around the ~515 range for these guys.)

(Plenty of weird database stutterings going on in the background though. Berks lost all of his stuff for a while when he first played etc. And Hangars being extra hangdog etc).
