Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Finally equipped a Mandalay and set off for an indefinite exploration trip on my alt account.

Currently fascinated with the patterns that bacteria form on the planetary surfaces. Never investigated them closely, but they are amazing!
One of those species of bacterium has a good payout associated with it, especially with a first footfall.

Just can remember the name... Think it may be informem.

I'm doing much the same (although not indefinite, just an exobiology money making trip).

They are indeed.

I find myself wanting to enlarge and solve the "maze" but I fear that way lies space madness! 🤪

This system is my record - or maybe close to it - for the number of bodies I've got first disco for. 72. I know the all-time record is way above this but I was quite chuffed anyway.

EDEB took its time to talk through that lot! :D

There's even rings with plat and tritium hot spots I may... may mine in.

Hot dog! I'm just on my way back to Ito Station in Rhea from PLEIA EUN XO-Z CO - and the biggest system I saw was 32 bodies. That's insane! I did have the pleasure of discovering over 300 systems, mapping God knows how many planets, and a handful of planets I walked on. :)

Now I'm just scooting on home, I have 314 jumps of 423 jumps left before I'm back to Rhea with all that data!

Colleagues might prefer it if you unloaded all that juicy data at a Winters system that actually needs Reinforcing ... and the more in need it is, the more Merits you will see. (See first post in thread I've linked to below)

(And contribute to the thread where we are all trying to work out what the hell is going on with merits for explo)

Thanks for the tip! It didn't even cross my mind. Mmmm... merits... 🤤

That's a beauty, I think I found one in 200+ range, it took forever to map that system.

It's having to work out the EBCDIC for "WALK NORTH" and then punch all those little holes that really gets ya...
Fortunately Dungeo* wasn’t on the PDP5 that had the punched tape reader, just as well as that machine was in the middle of the lab, it was on a PDP8 in a partitioned corner so some privacy it also had another waste of paper on it a Star Trek game.

*No typo that was the programme name on that machine.
