Bar Fights! (Most great Sci-Fi's have them!)

All good sci-fi have bar fights at some point in their stories. From movies and TV shows: Star Trek: The Original Series, Deep Space 9, Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Total Recall, Tron: Legacy, T2, Total Recall, Fire Fly, Babylon 5, etc. Since melee mechanics is already a part of Odyssey, we should really have the ability to fight in the bar area on stations and carriers. Sure, still block weapon usage, but at least allow for physical fighting PvE and PvP.

Maybe even require bar fights to reveal secret missions or prizes! Maybe you need to fight an NPC patron to learn information for a mission objective. Or maybe you spark a random fight. It's not really about just walking up to someone to sucker punch them. You'll have to engage is a dialogue first, and some NPCs just won't fight you. If it's PVP, it's still by the choice of both players (via set dialogue? or maybe just have a setting turned on that allows someone to come up and pick a fight). Maybe someone has a score to settle with a ganker? :) Fights don't have to be to the death, as achievements during the fight can trigger their end and establish the victor. (There can even be a cool down time so someone isn't picking a bunch of fights in immediate succession).

The fight can be limited to the bar area specifically. You cannot start one outside of the bar, and you cannot move outside the bar while you are in a bar fight (requiring you to win, lose or disengage before leaving the bar).

Basically, something fun that could make stations more interesting and give new opportunities for content reveal.

Counter examples Doctor Who, 2001: A Space Odyssey, 2010: Odyssey 2, Silent Running, Interstellar, Passengers, Arrivals, Contact, such fights are even rarer in written SF.

Most scifi settings don't kill you for leaving the dock too late. In ED I imagine the first bar fights were quelled when the shock troops turned up and mowed down everyone at the bar. After a couple of times people learned to not fight.

Make it possible to have bystanders bet on the fight's outcome and I'm in 😁

I made a request in an earlier thread about adding a boxing ring in the bar section of your carrier, where you the FC owner can 'trigger' matches between NPCs and players as well as set purses. We need more things to spend our war hordes on.

There some be some rules;
  1. Fights last 3 minutes and only 1 round.
  2. Player sets the amount they want to bet on themselves, to a max of 1 million credits.
  3. If you win, you get 3 more chances to fight at your request in a day.
  4. Confetti rains down from the roof when a commander wins a fight.
  5. If you lose, you get a 'concussion' debuff where your vision is blurry for 4 minutes.
  6. If you lose 5 matches in a row, you can't box anymore for the rest of the week.
  7. On your 5th loss, you are knocked out. You wake up on your ship, even if it's not docked there.

Sure, this too! Maybe include this in come stations or bases too.

My eyes kept skipping over this thread until now. I thought, "bear fights? Why would sci-fi have bear fights? What a silly idea! I shall ignore it." Then it kept getting bumped and I thought there was something to it and so I finally clicked... and realized I'm dyslexic.

ANYWHO. I'm for it. It will finally give meaning to that pitiful melee bash such that I will finally feel compelled to actually assign a binding for it.

Yeah, bar, not bear, but maybe beer could be involved!

Despite it's not so "educative", I agree having a message "you just got knocked out" and "respawning" somewhere would not be something so traumatic.
Maybe some procedural destruction here and there and having NPC or players then brooming up to fix the mess would be nice...

One thing I would definitely add to the game is "private room" for having a Power Point presentation, that would be amazing and this is what not many games no game have and would allow players to plan in game stuff etc... for a short briefing on foot. Rooms should be able to fit around 10-15 max players sitting etc..
I wish the "blackboard" could feature stuff we decide to show like maybe maps of a location, and galaxy map. and so on.

These rooms would be used from immersive RP or not RP groups both for BGS and PP.

Sorry for "derailing" in a constructive way the topic.
I do agree the fist fight can be ok,... maybe with some bets and something to be obtained if u drop the opponent. No team fights though... However this is a P2P game, I think it absolutely requires an overhaul to OPEN only >>> Online servers (regional) or limiting ping issues so that instances can really be populated with REALLY 30 players with no problems on foot and not. But this would require a new game as far as I know - I am saying this as the fist fight requires constant UPDATE OF THE POSITION of the other and for contact (kind of precise and thus a reliable fist fight u need the connections work well and are coordianted by a server... with p2p u can't really do this in the hectic way a fist fight would work..

Unless it is specifically designed a sub "half bust" american plane shot of the gameplay and the two players like in a 90ties game can "strafe right and left" not more and then block and punch .. while the others watching are in another instance..
But this would require basically to install such minigame into the game by designing basically a fist fight simple arcade game and making it compatible with the ED original code and the p2p... etc.

I am just being realist.

Well, there's already melee functionality, so maybe the mechanisms are already available.
