Also noticed that. The Cobra V's radar seems more transparent than usual
Overall impression on the second day: simply magnificent ice-cold small multipurpose!

Exactly opposite opinion here. I was needed a ship for PP activities and for on-foot missions. Now I can do all that with same ship.I just don't see a point to this new ship.
P.S. I have a Mandalay too.
Exactly same feeling. Probably because yaw is comparable to pitch. While we're at it, do you feel Mk V behaves like a Mandalay in maneuvers? In light configuration, I can't tell a difference between the two.
For small ship fans, the Cobra V is an outstanding addition. More importantly, for new players, it will become the must-have ship.I will not buy this ship. Not for arx nor credits. Because their are other ships in that niche that do it better. Flying it simply because its new is not reason enough for me.
The mandalay has a purpose. So does the type 8. As does the python ll. But this newest addition (Mk V Cobra) is an oddball.
perhaps the elite community will prove me wrong, that perhaps it's a stealth Op ship, or a good smuggler, whatever.
I think the game would have best been served with a larger vessel along the lines of the Cutter.
or perhaps a huge vessel capable of 1000s of tons cargo capacity.
I just don't see a point to this new ship.
I hope I'm wrong
Agreed. I've completed most of my engineering on my Cobra V, and I have a ship that is a very strong candidate for the best ship in the game.Exactly opposite opinion here. I was needed a ship for PP activities and for on-foot missions. Now I can do all that with same ship.
Do I see a point in a daily driver that runs at 14-16% heat, able to carry 40+ ton, jumps 46LY and boosts 600+? Sure!
Under SCO its like flying a torpedo. Landing abilities is subjectively better than iCourier (near PP on same settlements).
P.S. I have a Mandalay too.
Cobra mkV also very capable for exo/exploration. I think many will trade 10-15Ly jump-range for unrestricted cockpit view and better tight spot landing, especially while having FC relatively nearby. But for maverick-style long explorations I would choose Mandalay each and every time.To those who have both the Cobra Mk5 and the Mandalay, I would like to ask which you prefer over the other and why? Both are superb ships so I'm very curious what is the key ingredient in the ship that draws you the most.
Ive spent a bit of time in each now and i have to agree, i love the MkV, its amazing and my new Raxxla/Bubble explorer, BUT (and i think im far enough away from the FC so my old AspEx cant hear), the Mandy is by far the best exploration ship ive ever flown.Cobra mkV also very capable for exo/exploration. Mandalay also can be a very good bubble-jumper multipurpose, also can run cool and defend herself. But Cobra V is much more versatile while it is a small ship. Looks extremely shadow-ish in Midnight Black too
In short words for me it would be as comparing a high-tech motorboat capable of both busting smugglers and smuggling with a gorgeous yacht capable of crossing the Ocean on its own.
P.S. I've been exploring around Colonia in Mandalay and after one of updates noticed a strange bug: sometimes Mandalay's landing gears are stuck on relatively smooth surface with just some minor rocks. Happened more than once, but not frequently, once in few hours and while on Exobio not an issue whatsoever. But for me personally this alone would completely invalidate Mandalay as an on-foot mission runner.
Also call me a strange one, but I don't like the idea of getting my Mandalay dirty in those on-foot and PP-related activities![]()
I do, usually just a lvl 1 overcharged and then add thermal spread, it's still under the stock heat efficiency then.Just one point, is anyone using an Overcharged power plant? I always use armoured but this little 4A is severely underpowered if you run a lot of stuff.
O7
Was trying to keep the power under 100 to use the scanner, played around a bit, this is my new Raxxla runnerI do, usually just a lvl 1 overcharged and then add thermal spread, it's still under the stock heat efficiency then.
This is my latest build, makes a great do it all bubble build - https://edsy.org/s/vDAptTq
Midnight Black from early days. Works fine, looks great.Anyone has tried any paintjobs for the Cobra MKV?
Did you already buy it then? Can't spend ARX for it because it will be released for credits within hours of my buying it ...
I'm at the point where if I keep playing for a few more days I will earn enough ARX to subsidise a £5 purchase of ARX to only just afford the Cobra MKV standard release. And I'm thinking exactly what you're thinking...Can't spend ARX for it because it will be released for credits within hours of my buying it ...

Yeah you posted two seconds before I did, so I saw it's available to buy now. Just bought the thing and already had the mats to engineer it. Took all afternoon with more mucking about, as I changed my mind about using engine focused to the more standard and commonly chosen charge enhanced PD with cluster capacitors as well as the shield booster config. It's a nice ship, love SCO away from planets, that is a really good QOL feature. But there are no orange paint jobs for any of these new ships, it's all metallic shinyness things. Perhaps I will just stick to the default supplied paint jobs this time. But it's up for in game credits now![]()
