Powerplay kills the fun!

I don't think that and PP2 actually go together :ROFLMAO:
I'm not asking for a brief tutorial of PP2. I'm asking for a brief tutorial for that mining web page that has been linked a couple of times in this thread.

That's because people are reporting getting humongous amounts of merits using it, while when I tried to use it I got less merits per hour than just from random blind laser-mining, so clearly there's something I'm not getting about how to use that website.

Ok I am not one for mining so can't help directly, however The Burr Pit did a recent video on mining for merits using a program called "Elite Dangerous Merit Miner" not sure if it's the same one you are trying to use, but it's the best help I can provide!

That is probably what i'm gonna do in the end, play the whole game, except for the part that sucks! But i'm glad i took the time to come and explain why it sucks and how much it kills the flow of an otherwise awesome game!
i get the feeling you've been playing for years and started this account yesterday to make this

sure would be. kinda rude/entitled to expect someone to do it for you though.
Do what for me? Write a tutorial? You are expecting me to write a tutorial about something I don't know? I am asking for other people's help, especially since they are claiming getting millions of merits from single mining sessions, but are not telling how. I am asking how!

And the reason I'm asking is not because I'm somehow lazy. I'm asking because I have tried, and I don't know! Why is it rude to ask for help?

Yes, indeed, I have tried. I don't get it. I went to the website and searched for monazite, and got a promising hit: 755k credits per unit of monazite, and a ring with two monazite hotspots:

So I went to one of the hotspots:

I core-mined for about 2 hours. This is what I got from it:

I sold all of that at the station mentioned by the website, for a total amount of 15932 merits.

Where are the millions of merits? I don't get it.

Just a point here, but merit decay has not been a thing ever since Power Play 2.0 was introduced.

yea, i noticed that ... but "ever since" is like 2 months ago and I've been out in the black and only recently came back to re-apply to my power since they took it away. It takes a while to overwrite over half a decade of expected behavior, i'd been subscribed to utopia since the day pp 1.0 was released.

so without merit decay, the only pp "job" attribute has to do with the power's themselves resetting every cycle and needing certain triggers to be reached again. And that only matters if you care about the power and not just acquiring "stuff" like in the old system. So, it's even less parasitic than the previous iteration and makes the op's complaint even less justified about it.

you didn't ask though. you complained, and literally didn't ask any question at all.

I think this is not what you want but here it is anyway...

Well there is always the incredibly useful and entertaining guide to mining made by @Lance 'Spacecat' D. which you can discover at:

(direct link - https://docs.google.com/presentatio...vVHtY9AhQ-CcCI/edit#slide=id.g46484c48e2_34_0 )

I think it is still accurate but I don't know how to apply it to PP2.

What do you mean "complained"? I asked if someone could give a short tutorial on using that website to earn lots of merits.

What exactly did I "complain" about, in your opinion? What was the complaint?

I've never tried PP. If I pledge to a power, do ALL other powers treat me as an enemy, effectively limiting my "safe haven" to just my pledged power's space, or is it more nuanced than that?

If I want PP to just be a background thing I sometimes work at, how often am I going to be rudely interrupted by zealous followers of other powers (NPC or player). ie does pledging result in a significant "lifestyle change"?

That's how it works. The stations don't care how Power you are. And you have to find the enemy ship, which isn't easy.

If you pledge to a power, systems controlled by other powers will be "hostile" to you (that very text showing up on the bottom right of your ship's dashboard).

However, you can still use all space stations normally as they don't care. (And, in fact, you'll find the contact for your chosen power in every such station. They will be there, even in systems controlled by other powers.)

If you linger in a hostile system for long enough you might get interdicted by hostile NPCs, but in my experience that requires lingering there for quite a while. (It's my understanding that during the beta testing the NPCs would interdict you almost immediately and constantly, but because this was deemed as highly annoying and impractical by the testers, Fdev toned it down significantly, and now you need to be in the system for, like, 10 minutes or something before anything happens.)

For me personally and a few others I know in the game, PP2 is huge fun, if you regard as as a competitive PvE activity. The PvP part is highly optional (in fact, doing PvP just stops you from earning merits for your power, because usually it will take a disproportionate amount of time to defeat another CMDR).

Pledge to Winters, defend democracy, and be a hero of freedom!

Hello everyone!

That thing hurts my brain! I tried and tried to find ANY activity that i could do to make decent merits but it feels like the company making this game is actively trying to prevent anyone from enjoying this part! Why couldn't i just earn merits while i play? Why can't i just relax, mine asteroids for 3 hours as i already like to do and sell them for profit AND get some merits? (Almost) No one in his right mind is gonna bother giving himself the headache that it is to find a system to mine in where you can sell for a decent price and that qualifies for the merits! Why can't i just chill, do transport missions for hours and get some merits while i'm at it? Why, in the end, does every activity have to SUCK when merits are introduced??

Why can't you just join a power and naturally progress with that power by just playing as you would usually?
maybe you signed up to the wrong power!. i am with LYR and mining earns me a ton of merits.

my 1st 2 weeks in powerplay all i did was mining (on my steamdeck watching TV). i reckon 5 hours of mining is enough to get into the top 10% in PP and also earn a tidy 50mil credit bonus, and have a trade bonus on top.

imo if there is 1 thing great about powerplay is that it DOES earn you merits for what you do normally. Sure you wont get to level 100 super fast just doing your own thing, but because merits do not decay anymore (which is why i have not played until now, i hated that mechanic) then just doing your own thing WILL rank you up eventually.

that said if it isnt for you then just unpledge and forget it was there.

i have been playing since Beta 1 and yet i only signed up to powerplay 3 weeks ago

15932 merits is 2 levels in PP (i think i am right in saying you go up 1 level every 8000 merits or so - tho am not an expert so could be wrong).

that sounds pretty amazing for less than half a python load.... PP2 is meant to be a fairly long game isnt it? therefore it taking a while to get to level 100 is absolutely ok in my book.... that said i have been doing it for 3 weeks and already level 50 something. if anything its too fast progression imo.

personally i do my mining an a platinum hotspot and just do laser mining tho also have a surface blaster as well as some mining missiles if i want a change of pace.

i have yet to blow one up however.

PS RHODPLUMSITE............ i have never seen (or heard of ) that before....... that looks very tasty.
