Well done Frontier!

That would tie up with next year when inevitably Odyssey transitions into a free expansion (as did Horizons after 5yrs.)
A pDLC that gives players a permit to unlock the Orion Loop region & fight the Thargoids in their own territories could be implemented pretty soon, lots of assets and gameplay loops have already been created.

Interesting. I doubt those assets will stay retired for long!

Horizons transitioned to become part of the basic game because they didn't want to have to deal with "what if someone owns Odyssey but not Horizons", not because it had been five years specifically.

On that basis I would expect Odyssey to stay as a separate expansion until (unless, really) another paid expansion comes out, which almost certainly won't be as early as 2026.

Horizons became the base game because Odyssey built on foundations laid down by Horizons. It could have been done a different way (eg include Horizons with Odyssey purchases) but they decided to do it the way it happened.

Beyond was 'free' because it made fundamental changes (eg crime & punishment) that couldn't be separated from the base game, FDev needed everyone to get it so it couldn't be optional.

If a future DLC adds more planets to land on that's going to add to what Horizons/Odyssey provided, stuff like the SRV & walking on the ground. It will be another situation like Horizons & it's reasonable to predict FDev will take the same path they chose before (ie give Odyssey to everyone). The timescale is also reasonable, and 2026 was the earliest the financial hole Odyssey put FDev into was expected to be filled in the disappointing post-Odyssey launch times. Whether development of new features is started then or completed then is unknown but 2026 probably is optimistic for new planets yes.

But a pDLC doesn't have to require Odyssey, The Thargoid content didn't require it & a pDLC based on that, only accessible to those that buy the expansion could be ready this year. Or it could never happen, it's fun to speculate though :)

Only if there is a big paid for DLC and they deal with…
I suspect that the differing PEGI ratings will preclude Oddy ever being amalgamated into Horizons.
An unpopular solution with many, would be to eliminate on foot combat that would get Odyssey down to PEGI 6 or whatever.

Interesting. I vaguely recalled we have the VSC in FDEV-land (UK) but I had to google PEGI...

... and I will be submitting my complaint to PEGI forthwith that the Age7 needs uprating to an Age16;

One less hurdle for FDEV come 2026, or whenever, if it gets upheld! 😇

I would also like to say congratulations and well done to FDEV for the past two years events. The one thing I would like to give constructive criticism is the fact that the Galnet contents are dead. We still haven't heard anything about Seo Jin and the battle at Duamta where Tanner was even seen piloting a ship.

We barely have heard anything from the Power Play folks... What is going on with Mahon and Kaine, what about Professor Abreu , Palin, Ram Tah. What about Halsey? I thought once January kicked off we would get these articles but so far it has been pretty dead. Come on FDEV you have to strike while the iron is hot!

That was probably just a procedurally generated NPC. But yes, you would figure Aegis should have said something about the way Thargoids targeted Duamta during the attack on Sol and that they did not get to Seo while they were hitting it.

Apparently that’s not important, though.
The Thargoid content didn't require it
*Spire sites on tenuous atmospheric worlds technically do require Odyssey even if interacting with them can be done entirely from within a ship or SRV depending on how far you go with it.

Kira don't mess with my immersion! Throwing FDEV a bone!

Why would they even care about pegs when the community for this game is 95% over 18?
Probably because there are a lot of players who already bought the game, some of the players might be young or parents playing with their children, etc. If they would change the rating for already sold game - it could lead to refunds or other legal problems. At the very least, I suspect, it would open them to be sued by some sue-liking individuals.

What laws exactly? I may not be aware of the laws in the UK, but as someone who works in marketing, I'm a little confused as to why you would want to limit your content to try to keep kids' pegs when your main target audience - adults? Even if the game got max pegs, it wouldn't do anything except let them finally do cool stuff without limiting themselves. Jesus, the Elite universe itself is pretty realistic and gritty to begin with, murder, slavery in various forms, drugs, genocide, etc., trying to stay in PEGI 7 with all of these factors sounds like something the 'stupid department' would do.

Well, sounds like something more or less adequate. But still, there are quite a lot of games that have received a PEGI increase and haven't suffered much because of it. As for people who like to sue with or without reason - FDEV and without PEGI have done enough to attract them, technically you can start with a lifetime pass and continue ad infinitum. These are not unsolvable problems, if, of course, you care.

Yes, all that it true. But first - I have no idea about severity of these laws in UK, second - I don't think it's about solving or not solving problems, it's probably more about - avoiding creating these extra problems in the first place.

If you only market to your local community and your product is not subject to any legislation, then why would you care?
PEGI exists across Europe, not just the UK, it only takes a couple of seconds to look up...

Once again, when your target audience is initially adult - raising PEGI to the maximum in some Germany or Australia (okay, Australia can randomly ban games, but not for alcohol in a bar!) will not affect you. Elite is a niche game, played almost exclusively by adults who don't give a damn about PEGI. There's no gore or shocked content like Doom, or GTA, which would allow the game to be banned in countries that bring in the main income. Holding on to PEGI 7 makes no sense. The only adequate thing that comes to mind here, as Coolgroove said above, they do not want to make even more precedents that will allow them to be sued for various reasons, but if they do not want to resolve these issues, then the potential of the game is simply killed even more than it was over the past 10 years, which is just sad.

Lots of talk about PDLC and whether the scheduling of it was deliberate in order to sit conveniently with FDev's reporting cycle.

Moving U19 from August to October to November certainly wasn't deliberate, and it's the proximate cause of the situation with PP 2.0 issues festering for two months now.
