It was really a mistake to have player minor factions and have people think they actually own the system. The only thing we really own are our ships.

Can you all commanders stop fighting already? :)

Whoever are responsible for the lockdown got Fdev to talk about them on the front page, and managed to nicely set the returning explorers in panic mode.
We now have 6 days to get things back to normal, attracting lots of combat players in the area, and leaving it up to the players to fight for what they want.

And me? I was also on my way back and planned to safely/boringly hand in my data today. Instead, I'm going to fight in the system now crawling with PvPeers, trying not to get my data blown up in the process, which is...SO MUCH MORE FUN!

Can you not realize that everybody wins in the end?

its not because you don't agree with reality that reality has to change in order to accomodate your narrow view of things :p

its not a "lie" that players can have an impact ... there was the lockdown, players can submit reports and the CG was altered. Thats an "impact". it never says that players will be all powerfull and the entire universe will bo down to the actions of a few to flatter their personal ego (which seems to be your point of view). And surprisingly that is ... not true.
And who's asking for an all-powerful effect? I'm asking for the effects achieved to not be undone through manual intervention by FD.
Also, the fdevs did not "undo everything on a whim" they did like any decent MJ would do. react and adapt to a situation by driving the narrative towards a plausible and likely directions that gives power to the players to resolve.
So why couldn't CG participants adapt?
THEY did not remove the lockdown, but left PLAYERS agency to decide what would happen with the lockdown.
Which is functionally removing the effect. Today, the CG was going to end. That's not going to happen now. Imagine if this was a war, and one side was going to win, but now "Nope, added another 5 days" which is plenty of time to change that outcome.
you seem so angry and ed off because PLAYERS are undoing the action of other PLAYERS.
PLAYERS did not change the CG date. FD did that.
You want to take back control of the system and prevent explorers to retake it for the corpo? Convince PLAYERS to side with you instead of whining because there are more (again) PLAYERS fighting against the lockdown than for it.

Honestly your whole argument seems just emotional and does not hold much under scrutiny
My argument is that FD shouldn't have extended the CG. If the lockdown was targeted, this takes planning and effort to get the timing right. That's now been overruled by FD by extending the CG.

I don't care about the PMF losing the system as a BGS outcome, just the same as i don't care that the CG was impacted by the Lockdown

But i care FD is yet again fiddling with outcomes of the BGS which might have negative impact, because some players had a sook.

The PMF faction is of no concern of mine here... but you can't suggest the PMF losing a system to the BGS effects of the CG is "ok" and be OK with FD manually changing a BGS effect on the CG in - part caused by FD, without being a complete hypocrite. The BGS affects things... players need to deal with that, not FD.

Made it!
57 millions in bounty vouchers...I hope it helps!
Got interdicted by 2 PvP Pythons straight upon arrival, and high waked with 50% shield left...talk about a warmup after a return from exobiology trip, eh?
Then found a "safe" spot inside a pirate activity signal source, where I was worried enemy commanders would drop (did not happen).
I switched to my 850ms Courrier to deliver the vouchers to the megaship and stay on the safe side with all these commanders circling around in super cruise (not sure if they were friends or foes...no time to check).
THAT WAS FUN!!!
Hopefully the lockdown gets lifted, so I can hand over my data, then go dance with the PvPeers :)

What do you mean it's a lie? The CG has been enormously affected by state changes! When was the last time that a CG has been affected this much by it?
Has it? What else has been going on since 30th Jan through to now that FD has sought to intervene in, or could have but didn't?

Damn - explorers are making progress :(

Though the weekend will probably be decisive - at this rate the Lockdown will be in place at least until then.

I love this unscripted plot and how it develops. It's a shame that the gaming media and community isn't aware that there is a game where the story unfolds through the actions of the players, whether intentional or not.
But has it though? By extending the deadline all FD done is negate the consequences of the attack itself- which should have been that it (the CG) was cut short because it was attacked. FD could have crafted a 'revenge' CG somewhere (say, tracking down an NPC faction) and let people loose.

In reality people love an emergent BGS until it affects them and people start whining.

player agency in the story of elite has been covered by gaming media (when it was still worth something) and it is what brought me to elite. i think i started following this game after an ign article about appearing thargoids and mention of players being able to affect the course of the galaxy really hooked me up.
cant say i see much of that in todays game.

generally i agree, but that isnt fair to all the people that took a hit from fdev, shrugged it off in silence and won their game back. you just dont hear from them...
i for one am (almost) always happy for more incentives and opportunities to play the game. pity all the other things are making me turn the game off pretty quickly even when i get to play.

I'm not sure everyone is aware that being interdicted by Security forces, as was happening in the CG system, does not mean you need to fight it. As long as you are clean, just submit to the interdiction, allow them to scan you and you will be allowed to continue on your way. I think perhaps many were fighting and killing the Security NPCs without realising this and possibly causing the Lockdown.

Like I said, the CG should have been frozen out at 5/6 and then that consequence used, because the time constraint is, well, a constraint- until it magically isn't.
