Dangerous Status

How do I get Dangerous Status without combat?
To add a bit more constructive feedback: No, there isn't really a way. Some workarounds like having a copilot in a fighter doing the work for you or being in a friend's ship who does the heavy lifting may work but will be pretty slow. And that is a good thing: From my point of view, FDev's design is good and fair: No one should rank up (too easily) in combat / trading / exploration without really investing into it. After all, the game's name is ELITE, not 'Find loopholes'.

Stepping back a layer, why would you want Dangerous rank if you weren't doing combat?

The only thing it specifically unlocks is Lori Jameson, who has no unique blueprints.

Even if you want to avoid both combat and visiting Colonia, the only blueprints unique to Jameson within the bubble are:
- G4 Shielded Refinery, AFMU and Fuel Scoop: all useless blueprints at any grade
- G3 Rapid Charge and Specialised SCBs: niche but potentially useful SCB mods, but if you're not doing (high-end!) combat, why do you need any sort of SCB?

EDIT: and as I forgot, also G4 rather than G3 Life Support; an extremely marginally useful blueprint, and anyone that tiny difference in jump range matters to can obtain it (at G5) from Dorn because they're unlikely to be objecting to long-distance travel.

in the bubble, only Lori can engineer life support to grade 4. In Colonia it is Etienne Dorn (even better with G5)

Assuming we're talking about lightening, it's only going to be a couple of .1's of a LY difference between G3 and G4. It's not going to break your ship if G3 is the best you can do.

@Rufus Ruffcut

Just something to consider...as you ponder your reasons for wanting Dangerous rank in Combat...

As your combat rank increases, it leads to more combat with more powerful ships/pirates hunting you for the missions you take and the cargo you haul.

When I got to Dangerous rank I discovered that I could no longer reliably fly my shielded, combat fit Type-9 without losing it from time to time, sometimes rather unpredictably. Even lasting long enough to delay until the popo showed up was difficult.

The bane of my existence in the T9 was the Elite Anacondas that interdict, especially for high threat level missions.

I'm not sure if this applies/matter to you and/or your commander or not, just putting it out there.

I agree that the engineering mod isn't game-changing but I didn't say that either nor did we talk about lightening. The statement I replied to was 'what are Lori's unique unlocks?' And G4 life-support is unique in the bubble :)

Never once engineered life support on any of my ships.

If i lose my canopy and i'm more than 5 minutes away from the nearest repair place it probably means i'm more than 10 or 15 minutes away as well.

Having said that, the number of times i've lost my canopy in 10 years of playing is probably in the single digits.

Its so rare, when it happened to me just a week or two ago I was like "oh yeah, forgot that's a thing"

And I never engineered a limpet controller. Different folks, different strokes.

If you want to raise your combat rank quickly don’t deploy an SLF with an NPC pilot as that will halve your progress for that part of the session.
The higher your targets rank is above yours the faster you will rank up, this along with each new rank requiring as many points as you needed to get that far explains why progress slows down.
