To add a bit more constructive feedback: No, there isn't really a way. Some workarounds like having a copilot in a fighter doing the work for you or being in a friend's ship who does the heavy lifting may work but will be pretty slow. And that is a good thing: From my point of view, FDev's design is good and fair: No one should rank up (too easily) in combat / trading / exploration without really investing into it. After all, the game's name is ELITE, not 'Find loopholes'.How do I get Dangerous Status without combat?
in the bubble, only Lori can engineer life support to grade 4. In Colonia it is Etienne Dorn (even better with G5)Stepping back a layer, why would you want Dangerous rank if you weren't doing combat?
The only thing it specifically unlocks is Lori Jameson, who has no unique blueprints.
Even if you want to avoid both combat and visiting Colonia, the only blueprints unique to Jameson within the bubble are:
- G4 Shielded Refinery, AFMU and Fuel Scoop: all useless blueprints at any grade
- G3 Rapid Charge and Specialised SCBs: niche but potentially useful SCB mods, but if you're not doing (high-end!) combat, why do you need any sort of SCB?
Assuming we're talking about lightening, it's only going to be a couple of .1's of a LY difference between G3 and G4. It's not going to break your ship if G3 is the best you can do.in the bubble, only Lori can engineer life support to grade 4. In Colonia it is Etienne Dorn (even better with G5)
Truth is it's an OCD thing of unlocking all engineers, regardless of what they are offering.in the bubble, only Lori can engineer life support to grade 4. In Colonia it is Etienne Dorn (even better with G5)
I know we've been a little snarky with some of our replies (ok almost all of our replies) but I do honestly wonder what other option you thought there might be to increase the Combat rankOh well - if that's what it takes. I'll just have to terminate some taffers.
I agree that the engineering mod isn't game-changing but I didn't say that either nor did we talk about lightening. The statement I replied to was 'what are Lori's unique unlocks?' And G4 life-support is unique in the bubbleAssuming we're talking about lightening, it's only going to be a couple of .1's of a LY difference between G3 and G4. It's not going to break your ship if G3 is the best you can do.
There are a few more unlocks to do which require combat (IIRC claim n bounties). Therefore, buckle up and build a good combat ship, you can't escape the grindTruth is it's an OCD thing of unlocking all engineers, regardless of what they are offering.

And I never engineered a limpet controller. Different folks, different strokes.Never once engineered life support on any of my ships.
If i lose my canopy and i'm more than 5 minutes away from the nearest repair place it probably means i'm more than 10 or 15 minutes away as well.
Having said that, the number of times i've lost my canopy in 10 years of playing is probably in the single digits.
And I never engineered a limpet controller. Different folks, different strokes.
I suppose if you work in a confined office with other people, curried eggs for lunch might be considered dangerous.
I am not sure if it was a bug (and if it was that they fixed it) but I was about 5% Dangerous when EDO released. Then I did nothing but on-foot and did loads of scavenger and on-foot CZ runs.
Our OP said that they're a completionist and therefore wants to have Lori. The value of her engineering is mootI have also never engineered a limpet controller. We are similar than you think![]()
