Will Colonisation Attract Gankers?

I'm having a different conversation with forum members about colonisation in a different thread, but one person did make an interesting point. @Alaska Sædelære said "And least of all do I want the creation of attraction points for gankers out there."

Now I almost always play in Solo so I'd not even considered this, but with so many commodities needing to be hauled about by so many commanders to make colonisation happen, will those systems become magnets for gankers when the colonies are being set up?

We can assume these systems will show in the system map, and if they do show as "under construction" I wonder if gankers won't just sit there and pick off any Type-9 or Cutter that comes in carrying millions of credits in cargo?

I wonder if FDev have thought of this 🤔

Why would gankers be attracted to a system with only a handful of targets at its peak time?

Most of us should be fine, though I suppose colonies being set up by large groups would offer enough targets throughout the day to give the gankers a chance of finding one.

Just switch over to Horizons open mode if you are worried. You can still have casual encounters, but will hardly see gankers due to the low probability of victims. Since cargo delivery to colonization stations will most probably not need on-foot features, it is a viable option.

..., but with so many commodities needing to be hauled about by so many commanders to make colonisation happen, 🤔
I haven't looked into colonisation much so I have no idea how many commodities are going to be needed or how the whole thing is going to be implemented. If I have to go into open or join random groups just get enough stuffs to "build" my own system, I probably won't bother with colonisation at all.

Which would be a shame.

Given that there is going to be many of these systems under construction you'll have numbers on your side.

But if its in open, its up to you how you operate if you do come under attack or get pirated. If CGs can have parallel bounty CGs the same can be done ad hoc.

Unless you've got someone specifically going out of their way to target you, then the chances of having a hostile encounter across the vastness of the bubble's edge would seem to be very slim. I would say that it's much more likely that one would cross paths in more high-traffic systems like Deciat and Sol.

I think the closest thing I've heard happening is gankers camping places like Sag A*/Explorer's Anchorage, but again that's because one is more likely to actually encounter another human being there rather than in some random star system in the Ploooe Booorp Sector or whatever.

Why would they bother ganking you when they could get more enjoyment by ganking Robigo runs by setting up a few dozen new passenger mission destinations within range of robigo passenger mission board?

Gankers reside in shindez, deciat, etc they won't leave for fear of missing out on a noob engineering in the open. Easy prey.
I just did a test. In deciat in open. Flew over to the engineer, lo & behold just as I was a few light seconds away one flew up into supercruise. I had the pleasure of zapping about in sco boost, before finally randomly dropping into normal space and relogging into pg.
Relogged back into open, went into super cruise and watched as the ganker saw me again and turned to intercept.
Naturally after a sco rinse n repeat I Relogged.
Point is their play-style dictates their predictions towards known hotspots.
I doubt they'll ever leave them.
Exceptions being cgs and ax activity.

Hmmm… hadn’t thought of that before. I wonder if the Mainani-Ngalinn run is also in danger of disruption.

I've known some players who have been nuttier than the snack section in a health food shop, but unless you know a system is going to have players in it, in open and at the time you're playing, any ganker is going to look elsewhere.

Otherwise there's going to be players sat in supercruise singing Bobby Vinton's "Mr Lonely" for hours on end.

im on the cg just now,in solo, when i go into open as i normaly play as i drop into cg system, there they are, zooming to get into postion to intridict, its so obvious if you watch youre scanner.its not combat logging to close and drop into solo, just be faster then they are,if you you are to slow and get intridicted, fight or run ,its combat logging if you leave the game at that stage, ill get hell for this comment i expect but ive been doing for years, cant stand players who have no intention other then to destroy other players who are playig to the game.now ill continue bounty hunting for the cg,IN SOLO.lol
