Hot takes for planet zoo

Can't remember if I said this already but: -I would much prefer the White-nosed Coati as the species we get than the more popular South American Coati that everyone else seems to want.

-Also I would prefer either the Lumholtz' Tree-kangaroo or Matschie's Tree-Kangaroo to a Goodfellow's Tree-kangaroo (but the Goodfellow and the Matschie's do look quite similar anyway).

-I'd prefer a Bush Dog over an Ocelot in a South America pack.

-I don't want a Musk Ox and don't get its high appeal and spot on the Meta Wishlist. To me it seems super similar to the American Bison and nearly identical to Wisent. If we were going to get anymore fluffy cow-like animals, I'd prefer the Domestic Yak because it has all kinds of color combinations and could also be used as a petting zoo animal as well as a stand-in for a Wild Yak habitat. However, I don't really want any more cow-like animals since we already have the African Buffalo, Wild Water Buffalo, American Bison, Wisent, Highland Cattle, and the superficially cow-looking Black Wildebeest and Blue Wildebeest.

-In fact, Frontier should be banned from making any kind of ungulate ever again. They have to use animals from literally any other group in all future packs. 53 of the 195 animals are some type of ungulate. That's over 1/4 of the game's total animals (27%). The quote box below is a list of all the game's ungulates.

Although to be fair, I do want more mammalian carnivores, and I did a count of them which came to 45, 46 if the Tasmanian devil is considered as it's a carnivorous marsupial, but not of the order Carnivora. So that's still a fair bit of mammalian carnivores as well and leaves only 97 animals out of 195 that aren't either ungulates or mammalian carnivores. The list of carnivores is in the quote box below:

1. African leopard
2. African Wild Dog
3. Amur Leopard
4. Arctic Fox
5. Arctic Wolf
6. Asian Small-Clawed Otter

43. Timber Wolf
44. West African Lion
45. Wolverine
Plus:
46. Tasmanian Tiger (Carnivorous marsupial)

-I don't care whether or not we get any Old World monkeys because they creep me out because of how uncanny the human-like in appearance most of them is. I only want the cute tiny South American monkeys like tamarins, marmosets, and possibly squirrel monkeys and capuchins.

I think a lot of the want for the serval is more because people like it than because its filling an unknown niche. Personally, I mostly want it because its the go-to small cat in zoos I think about so it not being here feels odd. It's also just really cute and I like the jumping... Even if the caracal fills the niche well I'd love to put it in a scrubland area or some lower budget zoo.

  • Gaur
  • Banteng
  • Lowland Anoa
  • Musk Ox

Honestly yeah. Exchange pere david deer for marsh deer, remove the white tailed deer and add the pudu and that's pretty much all the important ungulates i need. I guess i could also mention chamois, mouflon, big horn sheep, mountain goat, ankole wattusi, vicuña, guanaco and brazilian tapir.

Yeah, I say that but there's actually quite a few ungulates I'd want for various reasons as well:

The ones that I have bolded don't even have any mods created for them so would be most wanted for a pack since they aren't available at all anywhere. The domestics and domestic ancestors I want are because I want to build a zoo idea I had of putting domestic animals on display with or near their wild ancestors.

Large Deer

Rocky Mountain Elk/Wapiti (It's a native species for me.)

White-tailed Deer (It's a native species for me.)

Sambar Deer (Good for the Indian section of my zoos.)

Chital/ Axis Deer (Good for the Indian section of my zoos.)

Sika Deer (Would be good for a Japanese themed section of a zoo.)

Small Deer (Just because they're cute and tiny and we have none in the game. Also I think it's cool how all of those except the pudu have fang-like tusks.)

Siberian Musk Deer

Tufted Deer

Reeves Muntjac

Chinese Water Deer/ Vampire Deer

Pudu

Chevrotain/Mouse Deer

Java Mouse Deer (Smallest living ungulate.)

Water Chevrotain/ Fanged Deer (Cool fangs.)

Indian Spotted Chevrotain (Also has cool fangs.)

Small Antelope

Zebra Duiker (The markings on this guy are super cool.)

Blue Duiker (It's the smallest of the all the duikers. The blue-grey color is pretty too.)

Jentink's Duiker (Pretty bluish-black color.)

Common Duiker (Looks like a small deer-antelope hybrid.)

Black-fronted Duiker (Pretty red color.)

Red-Flanked Duiker (a cute reddish-brown color)

Large Antelope

Gerenuk (Their necks are hilarious.)

Nilgai (There's no other antelope that looks anything like it in the game.)

Common Waterbuck (Very deer-like in appearance despite being an antelope. We could use more superficially deer-like antelope.)

Tibetan Antelope (Will go very well with a Himalayan and Tibetan-themed areas of my zoo. Also there's something about its snout-shape that makes it look unique to other antelope.)

Goat-Antelope and Goats

Japanese Serow (Weird and unique looking.)

Long-tailed Goral (Weird unique looking.)

Golden Takin (Weird and unique-looking animal. Even though we already have one Takin in the game, this one is a pretty golden color.)

Bezoar Ibex/ Wild Goat (because the Bezoar Ibex subspecies is the ancestor of domestic goats.)

Cretan Goat/ Cretan Ibex (Descended from feral domestic goats.)

Sheep

Bharal/Himalayan Blue Sheep ( Pretty blue-grey color and good for a Himalayan/Tibetan zoo area.)

Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep (Important native animal to where I live.)

Armenian Mouflon (ancestor of Domestic sheep.)

European Mouflon (Descended from feral domestic sheep.)

Camelids

Guanaco (Because it's the llama ancestor.)

Vicuna (because it's the alpaca ancestor.)

Wild Bactrian Camel (To go with Domestic Bactrian camel in game.)

Cattle

Indochinese Banteng (Ancestor of Bali Cattle.)

Bali Cattle (Descended from Banteng instead of Aurochs like other cattle.)

Zebu (Because it's descended from the Indian Aurochs so is different from all the other cattle breeds that are European Aurochs descendants.)

Domestic Water Buffalo (To go with its Wild Water Buffalo ancestor.)

African Forest Buffalo (Pretty red color.)

Gaur (One of the ancestors of the Gayal.)

Gayal (because it's the domesticated form of the Gaur with some mixture of European Cattle and some mixture of Zebu.)

Lowland Anoa (Small, adorable dwarf buffalo.)

Wild Yak (Fluffy cow-like animal. Ancestor of domestic Yak.)

Domestic Yak (Descendant of Wild Yak.)

Pigs

Pygmy Hog (It's tiny, cute, and adorable.)

Bornean Bearded Pig (The "beard" on top of the snout is super unique and weird looking. I wouldn't say I necessarily want these, but I wouldn't mind them.)

Tapir
South American Tapir (I don't necessarily want it, but I wouldn't mind it.)

Equines

Kiang (because I love donkeys.)

Onager (Asiatic Wild Ass) (because I love donkeys.)

Feral Burro (because I love donkeys.)

Feral Horse/ Wild Mustang/ Brumby etc. (because we need horses in Planet Zoo.)

Domestic Horse Breed (because we need horses in Planet Zoo.)

Domestic Pony Breed (because we need ponies in Planet Zoo.)

Tbh the only ungulates im really interested in are the muntjac, either blackbuck or nilgai and the dwarf goat.
Every other one i wanted is ticked of already.
For carnivorans it comes down to the coati and the yellow throated marten
My must have ungulates for me are: blackbuck, musk ox, muntjac, greater kudu, gerenuk and brazilian tapir.

BUT, other than the gerenuk that needs some specific animations, the rest havee high quality mods of them so they are not like a desperate need and i'll be fine if we don't get anymore ungulates at all.

Carnivorans for me: coati, bush dog, sea otter, ocelot, fishing cat, honey badger, serval.

And again, other than the coati, bush dog and maybe sea otter (or fishing cat although that one is very low priority) i can work work with mods for them.

I’m gonna put this here instead of the speculation thread, I guess it’s a hot take.

Birds would still be wonderful to have in the WTE, and I think the main way to fix the problem with the WTE is to make the box a little modular.

Really quick doodle I did but the general idea is you can place the habitat items and control which “lane” the pathway is in. This would give the WTE a bit more creativity, and you would no longer have the pathway being stuck right in the center. The habitat items can also be freely placed around, in the two lanes not taken by the pathway.

I think it would make the “big boxes” much more tolerable. That way it can much easier serve a number of roles:
  1. A true WTE, like a stand alone building. Think like a butterfly house.
  2. Placed along a path to cause the illusion of a free flying habitat. Like imagine walking through an Amazon section and somewhere along the paths you can see macaws.
  3. A stand alone habitat, don’t want guests walking through your kookaburra habitat? You can build it in a mesh cage and only let staff walk into it. Or you can make an indoor bird house with “open windows” to look into the birds.
Obviously it is still clunky, but sometimes limitations like this need happen. I had an idea to make an entirely indoor zoo made up of exhibit animals only, but until we get some birds for the WTE I’m kind of against doing it for right now.

I have nothing against smaller flock birds being in WE, and actually I'm all for it. On that note I like your execution of it. But for bigger birds, and especially raptors, I want them to be full habitat animals. I want to hand craft huge aviaries and mix birds with other animals.
Yeah my idea is it would be for smaller bird species common in walk through habitats:
  1. Macaws
  2. Small parrots like budgies and lorikeets
  3. Doves like the bleeding heart dove and the Nicobar pigeon
  4. Inca tern
  5. Turacos
  6. Toucans and aracari
  7. Kookaburra
  8. Bee eaters
  9. Weaver birds
  10. Gouldian finches and zebra finches
  11. Etc.

Yeah specially for condors!
