Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I honestly couldn't tell you. I was still in shock from the 9 billion in exobiology and cartographic data I had just cashed in. 🤑
Oh, nice!

What am I up to?

Finally...

Do I now go exploring? Or should I look into colonisation? Exploration has much more appeal at the momen.

Must admit, I've been enjoying a quiet chuckle at the bedlam of the colonisation threads. I have started to wonder what's going to happen when this first wave of enthusiasm dies down a bit... do all these new colonies get ignored, or are commanders going to spend the rest of time doing DIY in their new homes?
We all get to experience jumping into their system by mistake now and marvelling at the awful terrible horrible names for Stations. Isn't that marvellous?
Meanwhile, I spent a couple of hours last night clocking up new discoveries, including one terraformable HMC with stratum tectonicas for a nice little bonus.
Same, I identified a nice gap with a few uncolonised worlds - this time somewhere near a shipyard and some Composites - and set off there. Second system I jumped into had three moons of the same planet with bio. So I guess I am doing exo for a while before that next claim ...

Huge congrats! 🍻

i’m still inching (pixelling?) my way towards two stars tbh - i guess it’s because I mostly play when there’s a multiplayer game going…

anyone up for a regular GCZ game, PVE or PVP? :)

Excellent! (y)...May I ask what rank of Elite 5 is that in....bio or combat etc?

I know, I know.....:)....I came across one system that the Cmdr's name who'd mapped some planets was the well known four letter word in their makeup. I've seen one or two player named stations that were deliberately trying to bypass the profanity filter (Is there an actual filter....sometimes I doubt it).
I sound a prude, but it really really irritates me sometimes....and yes, for me it does break the 'immersion'.

I found a non inhabited system yesterday that I could have built a 'base' (Outpost) that my 8 year old grandson could have used as he plays the game when I visit my family members for a week or so. I was just about seriously going to claim the system and was thinking of naming the Outpost in his name or a combination.
Good job I checked out all the 'commanders' mapped names for planets in that system though before I committed, there were a couple that were in my opinion fairly obnoxious.
Needless to say I'm now scouting out other areas of the outer bubble for a suitably appropriate system, which I'm doing at the moment.

Yep, I understand why the jump times for player owned Carriers is taking so long, especially on a Sunday, but I'm having to continually click the destination as 8 times out of 10 there are no slots available. Obviously when I get a successful jump connection the timer reverts to the old chestnut of 1 hour 15 minutes.....so I just shut down the game and do summat useful! :D....(tidying up the garden).
I think these long wait times are going to be an unwanted 'feature' for at least a month probably 😣

Jack :)

It's "Mercenary " so loads - and I do mean loads - of ground combat.

Off for a break in the black. Got to fill up the carrier first though.

Err... 57 minutes for a carrier jump?
it at least shows there are some still playing i personally would not recommend taking up colonization
there is a high probability it will prove a futile endeavour spent 3 days hauling goods and no outpost built at the end
and no record of me even taking part apart from this screenshot

i will let you know the outcome of the ticket on this thread

That's speedy presently, you'd got a good chance to win the Carrier jump race yesterday if there was one!

Forgot to add...that's weird
All of mine lately have been 75 minutes...

Well, Monday, as I suspected will thin out people playing the game....though traffic will no doubt get more concentrated as Monday evening approaches.
I'm just having my breakfast, booted up the game and did a trial jump in my Carrier (cancelled it immediately after the jump). It indicated straight away that the Carrier jump was successful....but the waiting time is still fairly high at 48 minutes at the moment.
As somebody on the forum has already commented, some players are going to burn out sometime over the next 3 weeks trying to Colonise and do the current CG.

I think if you're doing stuff, either using the new features or just playing the game without using a Carrier 'time' is not going to be much of a problem.
I hope there's some new posts by the Development (Paul_Crowther) team this week answering some of the questions about Colonisation submitted in the Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Beta Details & Feedback topic. ;)

Edit...Ha!...I just copied and pasted the initial topics title, and it's automatically created a link here to the topic....that's handy.
Edit..I've just this minute seen Paul Crowther posting in the Beta Details topic so he's obviously on the ball this morning, and it's only just 8 o'clock! (y)

I am doing the shuttling tritium from station to carrier thing. Planning on a journey out somewhere although I'm not sure where to go - I was thinking of Vulcan Gate but I'm not sure. I have 5K tritium in the hold and 1K in the depot and it'll take most of that. Hmm.

What's interesting in this system is watching my FC batteries opening fire on naughty ships. Quite lively here!

EDIT: Has anyone noticed that, on the Mandalay, you can't display your ship name decal? Your ID, yes. All other ships seem to be fine.

I hadn’t noticed that, do you have a kit fitted?

I am getting a salute in my honour* pretty much every time I dock and sometimes when I leave the CG station.

*Though they might just be saying hello to PP NPCs.
