Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

As you can see (or not!) the scanner spectrum itself is almost invisible. Makes it difficult verging on impossible to figure out what is in the system.

Something weird going on here because my screen is properly calibrated and I am sitting in lamp light and I still can't see bob diddly in your screenshot.

Is something in your system applying negative gamma? Check the Windows colour calibration screen and your GPU vendor's control panel.

This is what it should look like, as mentioned before, it could be you're video or monitor settings.

Thanks for the many responses - things have improved, but I can't tell you why. Essentially, I logged off the game for dinner and when I reloaded the changes I thought I'd made earlier became effective (I had logged off and relogged earlier without effect).

I'm really enjoying the new EDHM theme, very cool.

In part, the problem is the lack of controls on the laptop monitor and in Windows; essentially just brightness and running the colour calibration stuff. I do have an external monitor awaiting its moment but that involves tidying my desk (!?!) to create the necessary space. It will be worth it though - I'll end up with a two-display setup with ED on the bigger screen and the laptop display for external tools. Just need to find the round tuit!

Laptops nearly always have decent controls for colour somewhere, even if it's an integrated GPU. If you haven't got anything other than the standard Windows controls I suggest downloading whatever you are missing - they're not always installed by default. If you want help finding what bit of software is missing, PM me (don't want to clutter up this thread with a bunch o' laptop troubleshooting)

Hi all :)

I do have an external monitor awaiting its moment but that involves tidying my desk (!?!) to create the necessary space. It will be worth it though - I'll end up with a two-display setup with ED on the bigger screen and the laptop display for external tools. Just need to find the round tuit!

I know that feeling. Though, in my case, it requires getting rid of the desk I'm using to set up a new one...

Talking of tidying up desks etc . I 'tidied' up my desk a month or two ago, 'cluttering up equipment' are... 2 desktop computers (not small cases either!) plus 2 monitors (one spare now just in case one of them packs up), 2 Logitech G19 keyboards, 1 7.1 surround sound speaker system, 1 modem,1 thrustmaster joystick, and 2 mice.....loads of flippin' cables...a nightmare!
The original desk (which I custom made several years back) measures roughly 6ft long x 2ft wide. It's not actually big enough now to place the computers on it (with all the other stuff), and I didn't want them on the floor, my wife complained she couldn't hoover round them which was a fair point, and she'd actually sometimes dislodged cables whilst hoovering.)
So, I ended up after a lot of deliberation buying one of those motorised desks you can alter the height easily. I did think of making another desk attached to the original one but it was (A)...a cobbles up, and (B)...just as expensive to buy the materials as the price of the motorised one, which is exactly now the same height as the custom one.
The cabling runs are in a much neater state now, but they're still not what you might call 'easy on the eye'....at least the floor of the room isn't bunged up with cables, mains socket points and cables etc.
I did consider at one point ditching the whole lot and buying a lap top! :ROFLMAO:

What am I up to...I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the game today, it's interesting (and confusing) what's going on in the game what with people using the colonising feature etc, and for all we know there might be some changes and tweaks in the ongoing beta test. I wouldn't have thought there will be major changes but I personally think there will be some more changes (quantity off materials required for station building etc.) that might alter what we'll finally need for each type of station eventually.
There's so many unfinished stations in systems, the galactic map is starting to appear 'cluttered', some filters on the map are still not functioning correctly which is starting to get annoying, and other game bugs, some experienced by some and not others, I see from reading the forums. So rather than waste the stuff I've gathered together possibly I'm just going to scout about the outer claimed systems for now and see what's developing over the general area. ;)

Plus we're getting some sunny weather here, so I really should take advantage of it and go out for a short walk, and get some fresh air for a change!🚶‍♂️

Edit...Observation....It would be useful to see easily (for me personally) where players are currently progressing with colonisation if the player completed stations in the systems were a different colour to that of the original systems (before the colonisation update). I'm a bit colourblind so this might have some bearing here. I just thought from an informative view on the galmap the differences would be immediately obvious, and useful.

Good luck in your quest to find that, one of the rarest of rares.

Hi all :)

I've just read on the forums (Paul Crowther post) that the actual colonisation feature of claiming a system has been suspended for now, although you should be able to keep building stuff in your already claimed systems....I think.🤨
It doesn't surprise me as , well....it's still in the beta stage so plenty of things need ironing out. I'm wondering though if some of those outer claimed systems will be deleted as 'claimed', due to certain 'problems' after the claiming rights are back up and working again as they should...cough! :sneaky:

Jack :)

I know that it would be wise not to get involved in this beta, but the more people go out there and try things, the easier it will be for the devs to iron out the teething troubles.
Thus I will go and get my hands dirty and try to colonize a system or two.
Well there are 8,000+ new systems and 13,000+ new structures after less than a week so as a stress test it seems to be working.
As for joining in I am going to wait until they have done at least one full week long colonising cycle after the buy a license system gets switched back on before I dip my toes in

Just on the way to Shinrarta to buy a shockingly cheap Mandalay and I noticed that collector limpets now circle your ship when you're out of targets. I like it.

Though random bounty hunting did remind me of the short range limpets have so I'm taking a detour down to Ram Tah. I'm only assuming he can do something about that.

I also noticed some new installations which I assume are colonisation related. Someone found a nice little system here with three outdoor worlds. They've been very busy if so. There's already 9.3 billion people living there.

Not all those installations on System Maps are new. It now shows Installations like what were there already. I guess what happened is they realised they needed to show Installations now and just found it easier to show all of them as a top-level change.
Thanks. That makes sense. I was just about to ask why Meene is allowed to be colonised given that it's an established engineer system.

Ram Tah. I'm only assuming he can do something about that.
It seems you can't extend the range of limpets. I probably should've known that.
The only way to extend the range of your limpets is by buying a different grade of controller. But you have to read the small print to determine which one reaches the farthest, as the highest grade doesn't have the longest range but lasts longer, time wise.
