Elite Dangerous | System Colonisation Beta Details & Feedback

anybody actually working? horizons now connects but tells me my commander can't be loaded. Odyssey lets me logon but still says the servers are unavailable.
I was able to enter my ship a minute ago but immediately crashed out.
I think I'll go grab dinner while we wait.

I am pretty sure this has been said already but, if the architect of a system could pick up missions in that system which rewarded them with % conplete on a building project that would be cool. People could take a break from hauling while still developing their colony. Sort of x group if haulers are asking for help with pirates, kill x number of oirates and the reward is they do some hauling for you resulting in x% conpletion of a project.

You'd still need to finish at least your first outpost to get the missions and the reward could be balanced to make it not an easy out, but just a way to add some variety.

I'd love this. I'd absolutely love it if this feature added more game play for on foot. I got out of my ship and explored the settlement work site last night and it was awesome but it was also just window dressing and... as much as I really love this new feature, and as much as I love FD's efforts in adding some real revolution to this game (honestly, really awesome stuff), I also wish they'd do things like this for on foot (or, at least, inclusive of on foot).

And below, I'm going to spoiler the rest because I'm aware it's somewhat off topic and so it can be ignored by everyone if they choose...

I'm enjoying this new feature but this is generally an issue with some new features in this game, the apparent lack of interconnecting game systems. By and large, since EDO launched, on foot game play has remained untouched. We got the revenants game play for a short while, which has now (so far as I can tell) been deleted by the game's own storyline progressing system states to the point you can no longer do these missions (and if you can, they're impractically difficult to locate). This was such an awesome addition to the game and, at the time, gave me hope they were going to actually add on foot stuff for us. But, that's basically it, besides a couple mission types that they added (which are also cool, just very isolated).

PP2.0 did somewhat attempt to tie into on foot game play but I have to say I tried it and it's pretty underwhelming. Not new game play, just the same game play with an additional (quite convoluted) step afterwards in order to gain anything from it, besides some credits.

Ultimately, watching my friend play on her relatively new commander, struggling to really do so many tasks on foot because it's still the same "here's 6 elite npcs on your 1 threat scavenge mission that pays you 80k credits" stuff as it has been since a short time after EDO launch. This new feature is awesome. I have very little to say about it that isn't positive. I'd just love it if it had more EDO to it than it does. Same with so much of what FD have done since EDO launched. It is, ultimately, just more hauling. With a really cool purpose behind it. But it's still just hauling.

I love what FD are doing recently... so many new ships. SCO is genuinely one of the best things they ever did for the game (something I was asking for, for years). Lots of cool new features, revamping stuff and generally making the game so much better. But... How many new weapons do we have on foot? New tools? New activities? New enemies? New suits? Will they ever get around to rebalancing the content so it's better designed for newer players, more rewarding for advanced players?

Please don't knock Inara. It is usually quite accurate but this is not a usual situation. My theory is that there is an influx of new/returning players, who are mauling the materials, and are not updating Inara. Either directly or with EDMC. Of course it is going to be off, and I would like to personally thank Artie for the huge effort in keeping the site afloat. There were many times his servers were just swamped.

3 🍺 for Artie! o7
I'm not knocking it, I have an account there and I like it. But by the same token don't knock the game and demand changes that don't need to be made, just because something that ISN'T part of the game doesn't work right now.

It's specificaly for the big port that I would like to know, does the market of your main station evolved alongside or not?
One day after setting up the T2 industrial settlement, the Coriolis still shows only a Colony economy when I click on it on the system map. The system itself has changed from Colony/Military to Colony/Industrial as I now have two objects there favoring industrial economy.

Reading that some people are having issues with the "wrong" satellite. I wonder if the different layouts provide different services or commodities. We know a refinery hub is needed for refined metals like steel and CMM.

What about the other hubs. What do they provide? Hat about the two different scientific hub layouts? Does the T3 port have to be a specific type for certain materials mixed with the right hub and settlement?

These are the things that are not being questioned or answered. Just that it could be be a possibly a bug having the wrong layout (that I assume is the first one required) and not a deeper requirement in the background.

According to DaftMav's Google Docs sheet, the refinery hub doesn't have any landing pads, and as such any materials produced there would have to go to another place with landing pads. The refinery settlements are still missing from the build planner.

For me this is now fixed as of the last maintenance. I can built a large Tourism base with a "scientific instillation" Angelia satellite

Apples and oranges my friend. I can knock the game as I see fit. I paid for it. Inara is free to use. No one is "demanding" anything only subjectively suggesting. This is a feedback thread you know.

Another thought/suggestion:

How about a UI that shows the system architect how the economics of the system is linked. So what is going where.

Or allow us to make those economic connections manually since we are the "architect" of it.

If it weren't for "Inara" we wouldn't be able to play this game normally here. Who's stopping the developers from making a NORMAL TRADING INTERFACE?!?!?!?!?!? WHOOOOO?!?!?!?! I'm not talking about trading information, I'm talking about a NORMAL INTERFACE! They don't have money? Well, let them tell us, let's chip in! I'm ready! But they don't want to! That's why you shouldn't criticize third-party resources, these people make the game better.
3rd party tools are enabling devs to get away with bad design choices. Nobody is WRONG to use Inara or anything else, and I'm grateful for all of these tools. Its not OK that the gal map is often broken, etc, but there's also feedback loop here that is bad for the game and the culture around it when the default approach is to use external sources for in-game information.

This is largely the devs fault. But there's something off with the culture here when most players don't bother to engage with the gameplay as designed - they are immediately advised, here and everywhere else, at the first moment of frustration, to give up and type something into a web search. So most people have no clue how to use any of the in game tools in the first place, and they can't call out bugs or articulate UX issues for Frontier to improve.

You ask why they can't make a NORMAL trading interface. I don't know what that means. You seem to think it's self-evidently obvious.

The design of Elite is such that the interfaces are part of the game. They are messed up in a bunch of ways, but there is game design intent there. If you use the commodity routes on the galmap and the filters in the markets, if you intentionally fly to different stations to acquire trade data, etc; you will end up engaging with the gameworld and its internal fictions in a way that you just won't experience using Inara. Moreover you will find CMM composites in 200-500 quantities reliably, but only after going on a little detective adventure first.

If that seems like a waste of time to you - cool. Efficiency and all that. Again I don't wish to attack anyone's playstyles personally, but I do think it needs to be recognized that the default playstyle is such that most people have NO CLUE what they are even criticizing or how it does and doesn't work. They literally have never played the part of the game that they think is bad and worthless and broken.

You may not know this, but you can knock ANYTHING as you see fit. You don't even have to pay for it! That's faaaar from the matter at hand.

If the basis for your criticism is weak, not articulated, or just downright wrong, and if you furthermore make repeated "subjective suggestions" with forceful language and an underlying implication (but not explanation) that your request is self-evidently A Good Idea and that the devs would be foolish not to do it: this is called Demanding.

If you can't articulate the whys and hows of what you want, only That You Want It. This is a demand.

It also DOESN'T MATTER what we call it. Please do a find and replace for any instance where I have used the term "demand" with "subjectively suggest" and see if it changes anything substantive about what I have said or what you have said.

HEY EVERYONE. THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION THREAD ABOUT INARA. Keep this thread for information about the BETA UPDATE.

Seriously. Please stick to the topic. If you want to argue and discuss that take it somewhere else.

Greetings

I have completed an outpost in space and a mining facility planet side (just finished) but now I have zero construction points.
This means I am unable to start any new projects.
Will the points I gain from the mining facility appear shortly or next Thursday or is this a glitch / related to the temporary freeze Frontier put on colonisation ?

Thanks 🙏
Build installations to acquire construction points.

Respectfully this is an inevitability. And a necessity.

The topic at hand has to do with the scarcity of trade commodities. People default to Inara and treat it like a higher authority than the game itself, so it's going to be the point of reference for as long as folks are getting frustrated with anything related to trade goods.

If people are using an external tool to play the game, and then pushing feedback to the devs about how the game should be changed, based on their experiences with the limitations of the external tool, then we are going to have to discuss that external tool as part of the larger discussion.

It's like shouting:
HEY EVERYONE. THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION THREAD ABOUT EDSY.ORG. Keep this thread for information about SHIP BUILDS

It's gonna come up.
