Can we PLEASE have the old computer voice back?

I like the voice. I was going to have to turn off some of the voice options off because she was loud enough to start getting on my nerves. She should be in the background, not yelling in your face and I like the new "filtered" voice.

Well the volume is adjustable, so you could simply lower the setting

Has anyone thought that it could have been switched to a synthesised voice fro future development. Having an actress/actor read from a script limits you to the words spoken and also the cadence and tone can be off, so things sound strange, ala Fifa commentary, but f you use a computer generated speech module, then you don't have to keep calling back the said actor for new scripts and the tone and cadence should be the same at all times.

Can't say for sure as I have pledged and pre-ordered, but have resisted playing until the launch to avoid spoiling my enjoyment with constant wipes. I want this to be like I first played Elite in 1984, like the true, sad old fart I am!!!

I think it's professional voice-over artist vs random person in the office.

Earlier in the thread there was this post:

"The reason why they changed it is in one of the change logs from a previous Beta update.
Beta 3.0 - Audio Voice – New ship voice system. More scalable and robust for future development.
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showth...636#post914636 "

So yeah apparently we went from a real voice to a synthesized one.

I'd love to be able to comment on the new voice, I really would. In fact there's nothing more I'd rather do that say what I thought about it. However, there's just one thing stopping me. I can't find a system that has hearing aids yet. I've checked every damn high-tech system I can find but they NEVER have them, so I just rage quit.

:p

I don't agree, but if so, why would they change it?

You don't have to pay a computer to synth a voice. You do have to pay the human voice actor to come in and record the dialogue.

It could have been done from the point of view of being able to do things on the fly, without the need to book a voice actor that may not be immediately available, or someone who no longer works for FD, etc... Synthing the voice means you can change or add things whenever you want to, and on your timetable, not theirs.

Yup, simple and true. I'm sure I'll get used to the new one, but I'd still prefer the original one back.
If it is all going to be synth, maybe there should be different voices with each ship type?

In the 3.9 build one of the first things I noticed was that they've changed or modulated the voice of your in-cockpit computer, and in my opinion it's not for the better :/

The new female voice sounds a bit harsher, and almost clipped in places. This makes it a bit grating to listen to at times. Seeing as we will be hearing this voice A LOT as we play the game over the coming months and years, can the Frontier Devs PLEASE:

- Give us the previous voice back.
- Give us a choice between the two.
- Or even a series of voices to choose from. Perhaps there are players who prefer a very 'robotic' voice, others may want a male voice?

Thoughts anyone? I'm not enjoying the new 'FRAm-Shift-Drive CHAH-Ching' at all :(

Yes Please!!! Had to turn that specific sound off. Dont know what you did, but it went from just fine to being extremely annoying. All the other sounds are good, but Fram-Chift.drave.cha.ching, now makes me wanna kill myself. :)

You mean you can actually hear her?!?!?!

Ship's Voice needs to be set louder so that the separate Volume slider can have any use.

+1 to the old voice. I have a feeling that Frontier audio team tries to improve something that is perfect already. Same thing goes to menu sounds (when you hover the cursor over options), previous sound was epic for me, the current one is so so.

im with a varied series of voices to choose from, was killer selecting the voice of your AI in armored core.

the priamry reason being? everyone is from different places with different languages and accents, most technology even today makes changes based on the region theyre selling in so that its more pleasing to the local consumers

*edit* in short, i want a space-celtic gal, a space-russian gal, and a space-aussie gal, with personalities to match, maybe swapping btween them based on activity, like russian for tracking, celtic for a good ol drunken dogfight with friends, aussie for a good old drunken dogfight with everyone within 20 lightyears, etc
