Fleet Carrier Purchase Questions

Hi guys,

So got some Fleet Carrier Purchase Questions......

for the 5 billion cr does that include all the services/addons, should be at that ridiculous price lol?

do the variants matter, size, capacity, commodity, shipyard, armaments, launch pads, etc?

how do you pay for tritium to power it, is it just a selection that is delivered or sdo you have to go somewhere to hookup to get tritium?

so you can set commodity prices, can you set prices low then buy a cargo hold full then reset price back and go sell where the price is high and make high profits?

I can have the fc sent to where ever so to use as a base where ever I am doing business?

Are you treated differently on your own carrier, lol?......

anything else i might want to know or that should be made clear?

thanx

No. Just the basics. Each addon is an additional cost, which also adds to weekly upkeep

FC ship kits are only eye candy. No functional differences.

Mine it yourself or set up an order to buy. You will need to make it worthwhile for players; npc’s do not participate in these buy/sell orders.

Yes but not automatically. Buy/sell orders exist until you change them or they are fulfilled.

Yes. No automatic plotting; one manual jump at a time. And you’re responsible to refuel the main tank, which cannot be done remotely even if you have H3 in storage.

Let the complaining begin 😬

Hmm wow, just when you thought, "okay it might not be that bad", lol......I guess thats my complaint haha......I thought it might be a little more accommodating at least more than the military right, lol......well I guess it depends on how bad ya want one then......thanx for the info tho......

So the fc services/addons are additional and are part of the weekly charge but I can pause all the services/addons that I am not using to avoid the extra costs?......

So I have to buy the tritium for the fc thru players then being there is no way to buy it thru the game the way we purchase fuel for our ships in the game, how is that done, is it a request for tritium on a board or something and do you have to go wherever the tritium is for the fc or is it brought to the fc?......

Either mine it yourself or set a lucrative buy order so that players will fill your stores for you. I usually had luck offering 90k/ton, but the last time I did that was some time ago, and I haven’t checked H3 prices recently. Moving H3 to the tank is only a minor hassle if you’re jumping it all over the place all the time.

Edit: another good method is to mine platinum to make space bucks to buy H3. In the end, it’s less mining for you.

Setting a buy order in the market for 100k/ton usually works for me.
Now I had to clear out more cargo space and made a big loss on the excess Tritium...

One thing to note is that while I like the Nautilus layout for its rounded shapes, its windows don't overlook the landing pads as they do in the two other.

Sorry but how do you make a buy order, is it on the fc console to request h3 then from players, sounds like they bring it out to the fc if I understood correctly then?

So as long as you dont jump with the fc then you are not using it?

How much h3 does it hold and how far does a tank of h3 get you?

Can I park the fc at any system where ever I am doing business and need a base of operations?

thanx

Yes, you can set buy or sell prices for commodities in the carrier's cargo hold. If other players take note and find it worthwile, they might trade with it. Otherwise you need to haul it yourself. Once upon a time, carrier offers showed up correctly in station markets' "consumed/produced by" tables but that sadly broke a long time ago. Now your best chance is to submit the market data with tools like EDMC.

The fixed weekly upkeep is the same. Jumping adds 100k credits per jump to the bill.

The main tank holds 1000t, you can keep as much additionally in the cargo hold as you can spare.
My rule of thumb is 100t per 500ly jump, which gives it a range of 5000ly before you need someone aboard to move Tritium from the hold to the fuel tank.
Can I park the fc at any system where ever I am doing business and need a base of operations?
If the system is not permit-locked and there are free parking slots available. I forgot what the limits were but there is

Under the commodity market tab. Select a commodity and then select to trade for it , either buy or sell. I’m traveling now so I don’t have immediate access to the game to get the specific tab but it’s pretty self evident.
So as long as you dont jump with the fc then you are not using it?
On the contrary. You can move it to a location and use it for your own ship storage and base of operations for extended periods. Until very recently, for example, I had my FC near my favorite haz res for probably a couple of years (then PP 2.0 dropped and I moved it to our squadron home system. I don’t move my FC much but it depends on how you want to use it.

Both of these are good

Can I park the fc at any system where ever I am doing business and need a base of operations?
Yes, but there’s a limit on the number of FC’s per system so once it’s full you are locked out until someone moves. Also some systems do not allow FC’s line permit locked systems, and (sometimes?) CG systems, might be wrong about that last one, etc.

You don't have to buy it through other players, not at all. You can buy it from stations all over the bubble, and load it into your ship, and carry it to your FC yourself. It generally runs about 50,000cr/T or thereabouts, if you haul it yourself like this.

The only reason you'd set up a buy order is if
a) you are rich and can afford to pay a lot more for your Tritium
b) you don't feel like hauling it yourself and don't mind paying extra.

Oops, I forgot about buying H3. Thanks for adding this! That just show how long it’s been since I needed to fuel my FC, LOL!

Or just make enough billions that the weekly cost won't matter. I used this calculator: https://cmdrs-toolbox.com/fleet-carrier-calculator

The only modules I turned off were Shipyard and Outfitting because those are only really useful if you plan on having other players on board for extended periods. You can still store your own ships on the FC without a Shipyard module. And there's no need for the Outfitting module unless you plan on selling/sharing modules with other players.

So the carrier cost 6.2 billion and yearly upkeep is 1.2 billion (assuming 10 jumps per week). I made 10 billion before buying it so I can keep it running for about 3 years without ever making any money. If funds ever get low I can just knock out a quick billion with exploration and the carrier is good for another year.

You can buy Tritium from NPC stations. You don't need to buy it from players but players will often sell it for a bit cheaper.

If you plan on making a big exploration trip it's a good idea to fill up your FC's fuel tank and fill up all of your storage (25k tons IIRC) with Tritium. That should be enough to go pretty much anywhere and back to the bubble.

You can also top up your fuel while in the black by mining the Tritium yourself. Doing this is slow (like 1 hour of mining per jump IIRC) but if you enjoy mining it's no big deal.
