Fleet Carrier Purchase Questions

Also if you set a sell order for a commodity, then you cannot limit it, it’s all your stock of that item or none of it. If logging off and you don’t want all of a for sale commodity gone store some on a docked ship as well. To advertise your fleet carrier’s business update your commander profile on INARA, or at least that’s all I’ve done so far though there are some carrier groups out there.

how do you pay for tritium to power it
Buy from a port / settlement, or steal it into Secure storage.

You only need install facilities on your FC that you think you will use. the less facilities, the less weekly upkeep, and the more space to store cargo on the FC.

If you are not planing on sharing your FC with others, unless you plan to sell ships & modules (not a great idea) you don't need a shipyard etc. You will need refuel, rearm and repair, unless the FC is only used as a floating warehouse. The rest is choice.

Hi guys,

So got some Fleet Carrier Purchase Questions......

for the 5 billion cr does that include all the services/addons, should be at that ridiculous price lol?
No various services have an extra initial cost and add to the upkeep though if suspended their upkeep cost is lowered. Upkeep on my minimally equipped FC is around 15 million a week funded by exobiology for around 15 years.
Having a spare billion or two over the FC costs will let you set up its bank to ease you into operating it.
do the variants matter, size, capacity, commodity, shipyard, armaments, launch pads, etc?
Only in terms of appearance, good news the interior schemes are free.
how do you pay for tritium to power it, is it just a selection that is delivered or sdo you have to go somewhere to hookup to get tritium?
Buy from a station and haul to your carrier, mine and haul to your carrier, park carrier near places where both those are popular and go into the FC market and set up to buy Tritium at x% over local prices for however many tonnes you want.
so you can set commodity prices, can you set prices low then buy a cargo hold full then reset price back and go sell where the price is high and make high profits?
Yes. Note be careful when selling as the sell order doesn’t expire when you sell out, so when you get more of the item in it will be offered for sale again at the original price sometimes this isn’t what you want.
I can have the fc sent to where ever so to use as a base where ever I am doing business?
Within range and access constraints yes.
Are you treated differently on your own carrier, lol?......
No we are treated as a guest not with the vailed contempt due…
anything else i might want to know or that should be made clear?
Yes. Jump time is variable depending on how many other FCs need the game code rewritten on the fly to remove a “station” and all contents from one location to another, 15 minutes if there isn’t much traffic 2 hours if there is a lot No Time Slots Available if there is too much traffic.

Thanx for all that info.......

Hmm wow, just when you thought, "okay it might not be that bad", lol......I guess thats my complaint haha......I thought it might be a little more accommodating at least more than the military right, lol......well I guess it depends on how bad ya want one then......thanx for the info tho......

I recommend you decide why you want a fleet carrier before getting one. If you aren't going to use it then there is no point, especially if you aren't already a multi-billionare. If you are going to use it then it is absolutely fantastic.

Quickly I can think of 3 Main Uses:

1. Centralized Mobile Base
  • Excellent centralized location for storing ships, modules, and commodities.
  • This purpose doesn't directly earn credits, but indirectly makes doing various tasks much much easier.
  • Very handy during the Thargoid War. Cmdrs would have specialized ships with poor jump range. You could park the fleet carrier locally with all your ships in a desired location, and then use whatever ship needed. Also gives cmdr easy access to their stored modules, allowing for easy modification to ships for specific tasks.
  • Storage of rare or unusual commodities. Again, really handy during Thargoid war because of all the stuff a cmdr needed to collect. Having a place to store the stuff necessary, because otherwise if your ship blows up you lose all your stuff.
  • The large storage makes it handy for community goals, colonization, etc.

2. Set Up A Shop
  • Park it and regularly stock it with commodities to sell.
  • I have not done his, but I believe if done well it can make big credits.

3. Exploration
  • Really fantastic as a mobile base to launch better exploration ships that have shorter range.
  • Respawn location becomes the fleet carrier. This is a HUGE benefit.
  • Exobiology: the bonuses you get in deep space will make a cmdr a mega billionaire. Earn enough to pay the carrier maint fees for the next +10 years.

Yes got the multi billion but want to allot way past the fc purchase to have x cr on hand and in the fc account, so the fc is a mobile base ship to launch operations from much like an actual military carrier would perform, the only difference is that I dont have a squad, lol......also much of what you mentioned, so I could try a lot of other tasks as well and see how it goes from there, but gotta have an fc after getting the vette......might as well get the cutter too......lol.
Thanx

one exobiology trip and you can pay a year of the FC rental fees.
but mining while you are out there is added activities to break up the repetition

like others said, i recommend having the vista module, univeral cartographics, and the redemption module for codex
shipyard / outfitting is only needed for other players; you can do your own ships and outfitting without those services. you just can't buy new modules from outfitting, but your FC can carry all the modules you want.

So basically get a mining ship and set it up for mining and an exo-ship and set it up for exo, I like that......

I recommend saving up for enough credits to pay for the fleet carrier and desired services, bank a minimum 6-12 months maint fees., and have a minimum have 0.5 billion left over for playing the game (purchasing ships, rebuy costs, buying tritium, etc).

I recommend planning on raising enough credits soon after purchasing the fleet carrier for banking enough for 3+ years maintenance fees.

BTW the fleet carrier has a separate credit bank from your normal cmdr's credit account. You deposit credits into the fleet carrier bank. Maint fees come out of this bank.

You absolutely Do Not want to be scrounging credits weekly or monthly to pay the maint fees. That would grow old very fast.

For me it's hard to overstate how much I value having the basic ability to keep all my ships, modules and whatnots stored in one place, which can then all be moved anywhere en masse if I need to. That, and being able to offload Universal Cartographics and ExoBio data semi-regularly on long trips out into the black, make my FC indespensible to the way I like to explore.

Plus you feel far less space-crazy after a month or two out there when there are other (largely mute and entirely non-interactable) randos standing around in your FC corridors complaining about the boring decor. :D

Absolutely

Depending on the trip length you can pay for over a decade of upkeep.

A short while after getting my carrier and buying enough fuel I meandered to Colonia in 500Ly hops exploring and bio surveying around 10-12 stars each hop. At Colonia I went about 500Ly towards the rim and did more surveying and explo for about a month then returned to Colonia.
I then used some of my exobiology earnings to pay enough of a markup that my FC was refilled overnight.
Then off towards the far side of the core far enough off the straight line to get lots of undiscovered systems, then back from SagA* to the bubble where after paying for Tritium again (it took longer) I ended up with 15 years of upkeep and 1.5-2 billion in my normal account for rebuys etc. It took from just before the Spires fully developed to when there were only a couple active but I wasn't pushing.

Looked at the fc costs and services and to what you can earn supposedly in a fairly short amount of time to cover the costs and not having the services on the fc so others as well as yourself can benefit from them just doesnt make sense to me to not have them...... So since I am usually in a more remote area apparently most of the time and I know its nice to see a base or a carrier or something that far out in the middle of nowhere when you really need it I thought it would be good to just include them......Kindof like having fuel-rats and other good samaritans around, whats the point if you cant be even a little altruistic, just feels better I guess and you feel more like youre contributing in some form or fashion......
