Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

We like freebies in this house. Came with a nice 'Thank you for your patience' card :)

EDIT: Hans you've got Spectrum access? Wanna ask that guy if he's got a source?
Oof. Do I have to? :) Can't stu go? I'm, uhh, busy BGS-gardening for the first time.

(If they're right on this, they're probably right that any 'actor status' changes are gonna wreck havoc on the mechs too ;))
Here's some more anecdotal evidence. The ATLS has a health bar and a food bar and death animations. Tools and mining gadget attach in a similar way to its backpack.

It would also mean that the ATLS can do the chicken dance and T-pose. 😉

Yeah all the signs are def there. And it fits CIG's hack-n-slash-to-hit-novelty-sales-deadline ways.

When I heard about that combo physics collision booms immediately came to mind ;)

The world of bugs this could open are glorious ;)

Drunk mechs. Unconscious mechs. Mechs suddenly inhabited with the spirit of a legless Banu...

Oof. Do I have to? :) Can't stu go?

Think of the video posterity!

(Of CIG's shame ;). It's edumatainment for future devs...)

Spectrum is so full of salt at the moment I'm not even going to bother posting the threads. Its the same common themes: PvP ruining the game, CIG only care about PvP, lack of content, bugs, closing of wallets, etc.

Interesting thing though, Spectrum, by definition, is where the hardcore fanbase hangs out (because you can't post if you haven't got an account), but it begs the question then, who is buying all these new JPGs? Non-stop sales, record funding, and yet, so much salt.

Is it all money laundering? Is it the majority fans of the game not on Spectrum? Is it the PvPers... who are buying the new mining ship? Erm...

So many questions.

And where is the financial report? First quarter almost up. Will CIG do a funny and release it on April the 1st?

In that question you seem to asume the tracker is pretty much accurate about reflecting real sales, which imo it isn´t, and probably by a non negligeable amount.

Needing external investment to start with, back in 2018. Constant layoffs since at least 2023 that we know of including top management, closure of the LA office, slowdown of development work for meaningful new features for years leading to the altogether stop of development of said new features and settling for cheaper "stability", aka maintenance mode. UK auditors stating CIG is withholding key accounting information, constant gaslighting in everyhting else (so why wouldnt they gaslight aswell in the tracker) etc etc etc. I mean, the signs are all there for those that really want to look.

And none of this matches with a narrative of "record sales".

Now, as for the details of the "tracker" figure itself, imo, it is probably a combination of several things:
  • Non player launderers and speculative buyers getting jpgs for trading at the grey market (this would include most of what we call "whales").
  • With all their companies, and Hollywood accounting history by some key staff, I wouldnt be surprised at all if CIG was shown to engage in some form of round tripping. It would be extremely simple for CIG to set up.
  • In addition to CIG simply perhaps fudging their numbers that is, which would be even simpler.
  • And in addition to some real players still putting some money in.

Previous years were aiming at Quarterly releases with associated new ship sales
This year is aiming at Monthly releases with associated new ship sales

With monthly new ships I would expect more regular sales, and that seems to be happening. Interesting to see what happens when something like Invictus comes along - will it have more new ships, or just opening up the old ones?

It's hardly surprising that people are still buying despite the state of the game - they've done it for 11+ years already.

Its always the question of how accurate it is, but overall, if it wasn't broadly accurate, then CIG should have gone bankrupt years ago. However, given the state of the game over the last year, the need for CIG to keep a positive spin on things, and two years of late financials, my suspicion is they've slowly slipped more and more into cooking the books, justifying it by saying it will all be all ok in the end, and its needed now, but once we release SQ42 things will recover - and of course, SQ42 is always 2 years away from release.

If my suspicions are correct, then sooner or later they will hit breaking point, where they can't keep hiding it. As you note, closing an office and laying off staff could be an indication of them trying to hide a bad financial situation.

It is not a binary situation, i.e. CIG must be either bankrupt or not. Either in business or not at all. No.

They do not need to be bankrupt to be in an enough dire state to need external investment/loans to start with (2018), layoff personnel for years, including top management, shut down offices, hide accounting relevant information from auditors or give up on likely more expensive new feature development. Heck, CIG could just have no choice but to downsize to a team of 20 people, but claim they are still breaking record sales at the tracker and go on for another 15 years for all we know.

It´s a gradual but very clear degradation of resources, quality and delivery over time that does not fit at all with any "broadly accurate" view of the "tracker", nevermind the official narrative of record breaking sales over the last many years.

My guess is CCU, ship melting, ship gifted to streamers all count at full price. Subscriptions are added to the fund tracker Refunds are never taken into account.

Though we can't deny CIG have costly expenses every months. But I guess they're less than assumed thanks to tricks.

I think that's my point. I don't think they always cooked the books, at least not in any significant way that would massively inflate their income. I'm suggesting it was more of a gradual process that's slowly coming to bite them in the rear end as they've become more and more desperate to keep up a good appearance while cutting back.

Of course, it could all just be fantasy. Time will tell.

On their financial blog they always counted subscriptions in a separate column along with other funds of income separate from store sales. Of course, we have no way of knowing if this is true or if there is some double counting going on.

Interesting raffle off of LA office merch...

Unclear if the lucky invitees paid. It seems there was a draw and they were allocated something:

Would be surprisingly un-CIG if there wasn't a price tag attached though

Such a laundry list of yesteryear's excess in there:
  • The 1:1 citcon grav bike
  • Many ship models
  • Lavish BMM painting.
  • A PC with wraparound SQ42 decal including Mark Hamill ;)
  • CR director chair.
CR signed all the paintings, because he is the true font of all the art ;)

And gotta love the fan's sign off: 'Bigger and better things for SC are to come...'

NB, this is the same guy who got this from LA recently:
