DLC 19 Speculation

It's probably the weird "it's in my backyard, therefore not a zoo animal" mindset when kangaroos are in the backyards of folks in Australia; heck, they're roadkill down there, but people bash on armadillos and raccoons because I dunno...
As an Aussie, here are the animals we have in-game that I've seen as roadkill (ordered roughly in order of how often I see them dead on the road):
  • Red kangaroo
  • Red fox
  • Emu
  • Eastern brown snake
  • Eastern bluetongue skink
  • Red-necked wallaby
  • European fallow deer
  • Common wombat
  • Koala
  • Dromedary camel (I don't envy whoever hit that lol)

I edited it to add them should’ve in the first place I love them too

Just look at this elegant dude. Probably waiting at the local French restaurant for his date; that's the vibe he gives

Why is it that Americans hate the white-tailed deer but us Europeans love our deer lol
It's just that they're . . . boring. They're extremely common in the US to the point of mundanity, and because of that they're almost never put into any decent-sized zoo over here. And according to Zootierliste they're only found in five zoos in the EU.

So how would you all round out the deer roster then? Within reason ofcourse.

While im personally not really dying for more i can agree that there objectively should be more than we have now.
I think 2-3 could bring them up to a good spot. One for NA like the elk and reeves muntjac together with a more classical deer for asia would round them up pretty nicely. I think id go with the sambar due to their huge range and to vary the deer up with a tropical species
I don't personally want any more large temperate deer at the moment like the Elk, although I understand why others want it. The main deer I am missing at this point are a smaller species like the pudu or muntjac and a medium sized endemic Asian deer, I don't really mind which deer we end up getting for this slot but a personal favourite of mine is the Philippine spotted deer.

As a (South) American, i simply don't want the whitetail because compared to most other American deers it's just boring.

If i want a North American deer i would absolutelly go with the Elk over it because of the calls and magnificent compared with the whitetail.
If i want an South American deer i would definitelly choose any other deer that i actually can see as a South American deer instead of the whitetail.

Don't get me wrong, the Whitetail is a very cool animal on it own, i just think it shoudn't be in the game before other americans deer.

My ideal India animal pack:

1. Blackbuck
2. Lion tailed macaque
3. Grey langur
4. Painted stork or damoiselle crane
5. Honey badger
6. Indian mongoose (we hace only one mongoose in the game)
7. Indian Muntjac

Alternatives: gaur, nilgai, fishing cat (though more of a SEA animal)

And yes instead of scenery (since we already have an india set) we get an exhibit animal: the indian cobra.

I will say though, considering we only have four deer, Frontier made pretty damn good choices. The reindeer, moose, and red deer are probably the three most iconic deer everyone knows and they all fill different niches. Meanwhile the fallow deer is an icon too (just not as famous) while looking distinct from the other three as well as being the most common deer species in zoos.

I'd love to seen an Asian deer species next, particularly Reeves Muntjac. It would be great to mix with red pandas and put in basically any temperate Asian area, we need more small ungulates too and this one is a really common zoo animal as well.

Beyond that, my ideal picks would be:
  • Roe Deer (A pretty biased pick but I'd like to round out the European deers so I could make a big mixed forest for them, they're the most common "urban" deer in Britain as well so they're more iconic for me personally and certainly they look distinct from the others)
  • White-Tailed Deer (Controversial but this is an iconic North American animal, would be good as a smaller filler ungulate for this part of the world and also has a huge range too)
  • Southern Pudu (Another small deer and one that is important for temperate South America, could be a cute addition to a Chilean themed area)
  • Chital (A great pick for an Indian filler ungulate, they have a distinct spotty and slender appearance and could be used in all sorts of mixed paddocks)
  • Wapiti (They are kind of just a big red deer but they are so majestic and iconic I can't help but want them, would be cool for any kind of boreal forest areas both North American and Asian)
  • Sika Deer (Another controversial choice from me but I've always though this is underrated, not the most unique deer but these are really common in zoos and would be a great choice for a generic East Asian deer, particularly for Japanese themed areas they'd be great to have alongside the macaque and crane I think)
  • Pere David's Deer (A really unique deer from China that is Extinct in the Wild and also likes to spend a lot of time in water. What is there not to like?)
So that's 8 choices which would bring us to 12 lol, certainly won't happen but yea. The muntjac is absolute priority, but I'd be really happy to see any of these.

while the moose is iconic it doesnt scream deer to me but otherwise the other 3 were great choices and arguably depending on the region fallow deer are much more well known since where im from they are the main deer people talk about and find (invasive)

The fact that someone hit a camel and the car isnt also roadkill is insane.

my list is a bit shorter than yours
  • eastern bluetounge
  • common wombat
  • red necked wallaby
  • red fox
  • european fallow deer
  • dingo
  • tasmanian devil
  • koala

That´s because it´s an opinion, not a very popular one I guess haha but still.

It´s just weird to me to see such a high demand for another bear when we don´t even have one pelican for example when we have almost every bear you can think of.
But that assumes that if we don’t get another bear we could get a pelican and that’s not how it works. Frontier aren’t saying”American black bear or pelican, start voting now”.

No that doesn´t assume what you are saying because im well aware that writing down arguments on a forum is not gonna sway Frontier to do something different :ROFLMAO:

random theme like Indian
Roster could do with a few Indian animals, be it monkeys or ungulates.

Also as mentioned today Chinese and mainly Asian deer are missing from ungulate roster.

On top of that there are still animals from Africa that could still deliver (Pelican, Secretary Bird, Monkeys...)

And finally depending on remaining animals of this new pack South America might need more coverage still.

Does that mean...Are we getting BRICS for the final DLC theme?

I wonder if the next pack is the last pack will they actually make it seem like the last pack or just do a random theme like Indian
I feel like a random theme would be better than a grabbag pick.
Yes, the secretary bird is popular, but I feel like African areas could easily live without it. If it were up to me, I'd rather boost everything up to green (or even blue, if I could) to give each part of the world enough choices in the roster to make it varied each time
