For completeness' sake: coyote and greater rhea would've been top tier, saki would have been top tier as would have all other monkeys if we didn't already have one (presumably) confirmed, American flamingo in great, Chilean flamingo and bighorn sheep in ehhh okay, all other flamingos in no god no

Also, poor North American river otter getting snubbed as always...

There's no way it's an American deserts pack. There's no way this is to make up for the Arid pack. If this was to make up for global arid environments, then we would've seen hints of other animals, not just those from the Americas. And yes, technically the coyote could actually be a jackal and the sheep a Barbary sheep, but really, nobody asked for a desert pack since Arid came out, only for a handful of animals. And we got the most requested ones, being the baboon and the tortoise.

The rhea (because if it's an ostrich, that's a waste) and the saki (if it's truly that) are clearly South American. The only flamingo being requested is the American flamingo; anything else would be a flop, relatively. The only dog in the Canis genus that was asked for was the coyote; nobody really asked for jackals (as far as I remember).

The scenery is also heavily inspired by Mexican culture. That doesn't mean anything, of course, because we did get the Tropical Pack, and it had Indonesian temple pieces for the red river hog and fossa

I just think about the previous Frontier Unlocked when I was giving echo to friends that Planet Coaster 2 is going to get an update with Wild West build theme.
And I was 'crying' that I'd wish Planet Zoo would get the same treatment bcs I'd like WildWest so bad ...
... as I was fully convinced they will go for monkey/jungle theme this time and that they would not repeat themselves with two games, and that the 'wildwest' theme was 'checked' by other packs as even 'North America DLC' didn't feel the need of adding extra build pieces.

I am genuinelly surprised really curious how this DLC will play out in the end XDD

This pack may be a kind of response for many negative opinions about Arid being mainly African.
It might be? I’ll have to see what the rest of the pack is like. I would be very surprised if literally 5/7 animals are from the Americas and only the last two are from somewhere else. Maybe if it was 3/7 or even 4 at the highest.

I’m still feeling an Americas pack. With one of the last slots going to one of the higher species on the meta wishlist. Now I do find it weird that they wouldn’t display the top animal on the key art, unless we are all wrong and the pack is more taking the barnyard route. Adding long requested animals and themes without adhering to the meta wishlist, I’m starting to feel that may be the case.

I mean let’s breakdown the pack a bit:
  1. People have been wanting a NWM for a while now, and it seems like we are going to get one. Instead of choosing one of the higher ones on the meta wishlist it seems we are getting the white faced saki. While we don’t 100% know for certain, the evidence points to that being the case. So we are getting what we asked for, but not specifically what we asked for.
  2. Birds are an ever present topic of conversation, and once again it seems like both of the birds picked are not as high as some of the other ones. Now that could be due to the theming of the pack. A secretary bird and grey crowned crane wouldn’t exactly work 100% in a possible “Americas” pack now would it? Likewise one of the criticisms that I and others have raised against ZooKeeper was it was a “zookeeper” pack with no birds. Now in this DLC we are getting two. Likewise I and others have criticized Planet Zoo for having 0 bird representation for the Americas, and now we are getting two!
  3. Admittedly the coyote is a bit of an outlier, still Carnivora is a popular group of animals and the coyote is regionally and culturally relevant to the pack. A lot of people have been also asking for a dog for awhile, I think the last one we got was around three years ago?
  4. Finally, we have the desert big horned sheep. I feel like this is the true oddball of the pack, when people discuss ungulates from the new world it’s mostly in the form of deer and camelids. So I don’t have anything to say.
So I got to be honest, I don’t know if the next two animals will be high on the meta wishlist. I think it’s possible Frontier is “giving us what we think we want”. Kind of like how a lot of people really wanted the lar gibbon specifically, but after we got the siamang that fever died down a bit. Outside of maybe the wisent from Eurasia, a lot of the key arts feature highly requested animals. Which makes me think this pack isn’t honestly hiding any other popular animals. I think the last two slots will truly be up in the air. (Or I’m wrong and it is like Eurasia)

Oh my gosh, and rheas are in the Atacama desert.

So if we are wrong about the saki, it really could be an American deserts pack!!!! No coati?!?!?! No monkey????

💀

Edit: guys I'm really worried that the last 2 picks are vicuna and vulture now...
I mean, a vulture would be super nice! Buat what else is the Saki supposed to be here?

If we don't get the Coati, I would almost say that opens the door for more DLCs in the future. I know there is always a new animal on top of the Wishlist, so that alone doesn't count, but the little one is really there for ages....

I swear I don’t hate reptiles! I just prioritise more dynamic species.

The “Good” and “Eh Okay” tiers are hazy and shift around every time I look at it.

Honestly, as long as we get coati, I’ll be happy for the other to be anything that isn’t on the “No. Too similar to in-game” tier.
I think people want a mid-small habitat tortoise or a large habitat pond turtle. Those would be pretty unique. I agree that the Arrau and red-footed tortoise would be pretty boring if we get them as exhibit species.

This pack it’s not going to be the answer for our prayers for typical South American pack anyway.
It really depends on what the last 2 animals are. A coati and a mara or tegu would really help the region, and I feel like the only things left would really be a 2nd monkey, a mara/tegu (depending on what we get), a spoonbill, and a scarlet ibis. Tamandua would be cool but wouldn't fill that arboreal animal gap that a lot of us feel (although it'll match the scenery), and an Ocelot is something I feel most could do without. Bot saying it wouldn't be a hit, though

I think it’s possible Frontier is “giving us what we think we want”.
Oh yes agreed. But it also does tap into a lot of the areas we have asked for:
-> American animals, mainly south american
-> Birds
-> Primates, specially NWM
-> Arid complaints about it being just Africa

Maybe they are giving us all these things within the resources they have. We just shouldn't expect a DLC with a Secretary bird, Tree roo, Spider Monkey and Walrus all together.

I know I’m late to the discussion but I really wouldn’t enjoy getting the roadrunner, I know a lot of people would but it just doesn’t interest me at all. Yes it’s a bird yes it looks different than other birds, maybe it’s just a preference thing. I don’t really enjoy building NA sections and I just don’t have any good ideas for building for this one.

You don't want to make a Looney Tunes inspired road race habitat for this adorable birdie?
Or just a filler aviary habitat in a desert dome?
