New ship: Gutamaya Corsair

I really doesn't drift. I noticed it when coming in for a landing on my carrier, did a side strafe and unlike many other ships it had a tiny bit of drift and bam, stopped. I am wondering if the size 6 vs 7 effect that at all, I had full engineered 7a at that point.

Flying the Corsair for combat is like doing combat with the Enterprise D. Every move is slow, deliberate and dignified. You fire weapons and then have to cut away, since the budget can’t handle continuous fire.

It is a very stable platform - When lined up it was noticeably easier to land hits with my 3 Imp Hammers, it just doesn't squirm as well as dedicated combat ships to stay on target.
I had fun, and gained a few new bounties last night, so it isn't useless...
Thanks for the info. I used my Python I to bounty hunt for years, after learning to turn/pivot while using FA off. Never had a problem after that. It sounds like I'll be doing the same thing with this one. (y) :)

Next one will be my medium mission hauler.

The iCourier carbon copy cockpit (iCoucacoco?) ia another thing that annoys me endlessly. I flew many hours in an iCourier and my muscle memory doesn't react well to the visual input of fast and maneuverable to the haptic input of PythonPythonPython
Yeah. Even knowing in advance that is what it would be, I am finding that this bothers me more than I expected it would.

So not just me that thinks maybe the ship performance and module slots got mixed up between the Python mk2 and the Corsair and they're just going with it?

Cross post - with modifications.

The Corsair, unlike the Cobra Mk 5 and the Mandalay which are unique builds is largely a copy/paste of the original Python and its derivatives.
I did a lot of testing yesterday with my 'standard' build. I have yet to see any boost over 600 - noticed by everyone it seems. Anyone who builds ED ships knows there's a hard cap speed, however this is a little extreme. It would appear to relate to the mass of the ship, though Mass lock 7 seems low, however the size of Drive/Thrusters is irrelevant as the factors are 'hard coded'. The agility with Dirty Drag Drives is identical to a Python 1 in the same configuration - Not tried Drive Distributors on a light build yet ;)
The only way you might be able to boost 'faster' is to use a variation of Advanced Thrusters (doesn't exist...yet) which only currently only exist up to size 3. Now making/putting on a size 7 Advanced Thruster Pack on a Corsair, now that's something I could salivate over.

The only advantages is the previously 'unknown to me ' low slip Clipper flight model and six weapons whose output is slightly higher than the Mandalay, and lower than the Python 2.
Apart from that, it's not a shield tank and it has a low shield multiplier. Armour is higher than the Python 2, but nowhere near that of the Cobra 5 (Approx. 1.5 times of the P2).

My guess it is a Pirate ship as its name suggests. However I am a bit disappointed with its current parameters. It needs to be more distinctive in a performance paradigm. Maybe the low slip model will make a significant difference, but at the moment I am not convinced.

[Added info] The on rails paradigm works well with fixed weapons with jitter i.e. Cytoscramblers and the CG Phasing multi cannons. Using this ship as an interdictor on large ships works well and also against engineered Threat 8 Pirates.
In PVP this might have an advantage in FA off due to the low slip. One thing noticed is that the ship modules appear to be able to take more punishment than usual. It might be a quirk, however it was consistent and it makes sense as the shields are never going to hold up in most battles and the lack of real agility - its the same as the Python 1 this might just be its special sauce. I will leave it to others to test.

[Added data] These are very rough and dirty figures, but largely I would say these figures are comparable source EDSY and in game data for Corsair :

Military Armour and HD Deep plate Grade 5
Normal Loadout - A Rated and Grade 5 7A Dirty Drag Drives.
Corsair Pitch 44 Roll 135 Yaw 17
Cobra 5 Pitch 61 Roll 174 Yaw 48
Python 1 Pitch 42 Roll 142 Yaw 16
Python 2 Pitch 53 Roll 146 Yaw 20
Mandalay Pitch 46 Roll 148 Yaw 34

It's not that I don't care

It's that if you have to go to extreme limits to gain a miniscule advantage there is an evident design flaw.

Yes a V-8 has more torque than a V-6, but if there's no performance gain you might as well go with the V-6 and get better gas mileage.

It's not that I don't understand the underlying theory

It's just that the design isn't warranted...

And your point is...

It's not like this is the first ship or module that has "odd" characteristics.
Should we talk about the hull mass and integrity of the Anaconda?
How about the fact that the same shield is stronger when fitted to an FdL than it is when fitted to smaller/lighter ships?
Maybe we could consider why the iCourier is lighter than a Viper or iEagle but can't go as fast with the same thrusters?
Then there's the fact that a 7A collector controller is sixty four times heavier than a 1A collector controller.

The game is filled with idiosyncracies.
The issue with the Corsair's thrusters isn't even an especially oddball thing.

If there is no thruster anomaly, and the ship is handling as intended, then I can still be somewhat satisfied. Why only somewhat? Because this ship was described as having the maneuverability to do Canyon running like an Imperial Eagle, just bigger. While I would never expect it to be that agile, it barely pitches better than a Krait MK II. Yes, it has high speed... but so does the Clipper. While the Clipper might drift, it can pitch around fast.

I just feel slightly misled. I didn't expect it to maneuver as well as the Python MK II, but given all the emphasis on the thruster sizes and the Canyon running bragging (from both FDev livestreams and various streamers), I expected it to be somewhere between the Python MK II and the Krait. Instead it's just barely above the Krait.

It has other things going for it - though the default weapon loadout on the stellar is awful - I'm just left feeling meh. I'll definitely still use it since it can do a better job of PP activities (e.g. rescue escape pods) while being capable of fighting well. Yes, I could defend myself in the Cobra Mk V, but those dogfights got tedious.

If they would increase the max pitch rate (G5 dirty + drag drives) from 43.51 degrees up to say 50 or 52 degrees for pitch, I'd be very happy. I'm not holding my breath.

We were hoping for a ship that flew like a clipper but had the hard point and width problems fixed. That simply isn't what we got. We got a good multirole medium ship from Gutamaya. No fruit loops, just gourmet bran flakes.

Weird comparison:

Look at the bow...
That's what I thought (earlier this thread, but posting again). Someone went for "fast aircraft meets cargo ship" and was a little on point...

I love my Couriers, have done for years.
So really happy to be flying a big version, apart from the fact that mine appears to be stuck in treacle most of the time... It may be peanut butter from the toast, I suppose...
