New ship: Gutamaya Corsair

It's just made for violence.

I love my Couriers, have done for years.
So really happy to be flying a big version, apart from the fact that mine appears to be stuck in treacle most of the time... It may be peanut butter from the toast, I suppose...
Sounds familiar... I've tried all other ships and always come back.

Jumping in the Corsair, and trying to find have fun in the CG, with the occaisional engineering trip for class 3 weapons, I realised a few things.
  • I never needed to learn FA OFF with the Courier, but the Corsair might be the ship to do it in. Its way less twitchy and toggling FA is already making a massive difference.
  • The vertical thrust is really impressive. I got to 293m/s.
  • You can repeatedly boost on just 2pips (wth a G5 Charge Enhanced Super Conduit Distributor)
  • The canyons around Broo's Muang engineer site are a lot of fun in the Corsair. I haven't clipped a wall or floor yet while trying to hold 50m off the floor. The vertical thrusters give you a rapid correction while the nose is still turning to correct.
  • 3 large rapid fire pulses, a pair of MCs and a packhound chew through CZs, and given how quickly you can take out shields and drives when an engineered CZ ship shows you its tail, then a low Mass lock is not going to be a factor. Shields and drives are going to melt on traders.
  • You can scoop and not exceed 60% heat (G5 Armoured Power Plant). You can jump and scoop and as long as you are accelarating out of the sun (any straight trajectory) you don't overheat.
  • I'm out of practice at CZs. Normally I can solo a medium in my Courier, couldn't do it before the Corsair dropped. Did it first time I tried in the Corsair.
  • While enhanced class 5/6/7 drives would get you to the speeds we thought the Corsair was going to get (at least I did), the drop in turn speed would probably not be worth it. You really need the pitch at least.

C3 multis hit hard, but take an age, relatively speaking, to start shooting, which was one of the drawbacks I found with my outfitting, start shooting just before the flip was finished, so that, with luck, they are firing as the other ship comes within the reticule.

That's why I prefer ships with an odd number of hardpoints, such as the P2 or KM2.

Bung on pairs of lasers and MCs and then stick a frag turret in the largest remaining slot (hopefully on top of the ship).
Turret can do it's thing while you're turning and then you can join in once you get your target in the crosshairs.

Gotta admit, I don't go for optimal damage, though.
I enjoy dogfighting.
My goal, in ED, is to have combat engagements that aren't jousting matches so my ships and weapons are chosen with that in mind.

On that note, the CM5 makes a superb combat ship for that reason.
It can out-turn almost everything so you rarely get into jousting matches and you can have "proper" dogfights.
I've even found that NPCs will sometimes employ unexpected tactics when they can't joust.

It seems to make a decent exploration ship, with the v1 SCO drive 73 ly jumprange is easily doable: https://edsy.org/#/L=IH50000H4C0S20...7TCH07K_W0mpT1LUC0mpT2jwG-fG_W1P00010iG05I_W0

And 77 ly if you minmax the hell out of it🙃

Shall we have a wave of "Beak in front of X" screenshots incoming?🤪

The one thing that is great with the Corsair is, that you can use several classes undersized thrusters and you still get decent speed and agility.

My Corsair for Multirole-Long-distance will jump 70 LY, and will boost to 590 with 5A thrusters.

I’ve found it’s fine 1-v-1 but struggles against multiple ships. What weapons are you using? Wondering about loading it up with frags …
3 large SRB and 3 medium efficient PAs, all with thermal conduit experimentals. Needs some pip management, especially with a biweave and you might need to pop a heat sink every now and then because you won't keep heat below 100%.

I still need to try it in a CZ, but so far it's done everything I've asked it to. Module melting has been manageable and I've only repaired when I've already stopped off at a station to rearm or hand in missions. Needs mentioning that I have had plenty of practice over the years with thermal conduit builds which has helped.
