I love E:D But really?

A typical fleet of the average cmdr would include a type 8, which renders the type 7 and python utterly redundant in terms of cargo.
Much as I liked my T7 it was made redundant for cargo when they buffed the T9 it was OK before then because it could readily beat interdictions and wasn’t too much down on capacity. The Python only comes out if I want to core mine. So as a medium pad hauler the T8 didn’t replace anything.
The new corsair is an odd one. Doent quite push the Lance or mamba or even the cobra V out of the park. In well oiled hands that is.
Not enough remaining Arx for this one so it is pushing nothing out of a role.
The python ll is a beast. Combat ship extreme. But has any new metas been set? No, not in terms of combat in an experienced cmdrs hands.
Might be the nicest combat ship to fly and has probably become my AX ship, bomber certainly but that role was empty before I got it.
Same with cargo. The type 8 is fab honestly it is.
But It doesn't hold a candle to the Cutter or type 9 for capacity and in the Cutters case, unshielded speed.
The handling and ability to ignore interdictions make it a tempting choice though.
Most colonists will have access to a shielded type 9.
None of the new ships push out the old in normal space. Sco use yes definitely.
Course I'm just an average combat pilot. And for me all the new combat ships are good. And l cannot say which is best cos I'm not competent enough to commit myself.
But having the new ships behind a pay wall puts money in fdevs pockets thus allowing them to develop a game that's over 10 years old! That in itself is a +.
So yup I'm buying bucket loads of arx and being suckered into renaming colony assets etc. Cos l know I'm at least contributing to the games future.
But I'm not saying I like p2w. I don't.
That other game takes it to a whole new level.
And a billion dollars speaks volumes about players wanting ships, and more and more.
So if it's going to futureproof elite. Perhaps even lead to elite ll. I'm all for it albeit begrudgingly.
Even if the Arx income doesn’t necessarily help support the game it supports the company which is also good.

Well I get the ship (eventually) because I paid for Odyssey. If I then pay to avoid late access I've paid twice.
Yeah, I suppose buying an expansion (assuming one isn't a LEP holder) is painful on the wallet, I onlly bought the expansion 6 times... But then, one of those was for a friend, so wasted money...

I mean, had they said "Buy Odessey and get a heap of ships added in several years time", I may have felt hard done by... But I don't, maybe that is just me though!

And what is this supposed to show, that you can kill a cutter? Big deal, plenty of others have done it in a ferdie. Bring a knife to a gun fight and see what that gets you.
It's supposed to show the niche in which the Python2 is the best. I thought it was obvious.
FDL is still a better ship overall, especially in wingfights. But not in this role.

Idk why it's so problematic for some people to accept the simple fact that some elements in this game are obviously P2W.

P2W in computer gaming is simply a name of a monetization technique when you exchange real-world currency for an ingame benefit.

It's an umbrella term that covers a wide range of ingame benefits you can buy, from otherwise unobtainable overpowered weapons to early-access assets or simply skipping some of the ingame grind. Some of these things are more annoying, some of them are less so, but the difference between them is just quantitative, it does not change the fact that they all belong in the category of P2W.
The problem I have isn’t with the definition but seeing how the ‘benefit’ actually provides a benefit over other players in anything other than the extremely short term* and in limited areas of the game.

*A month or so.

That's still a benefit, just a smaller one than a unique 1-hit boss killer sword.

Can it best the FDL every time? Or even a solid majority?

For pay to win to mean something it has to encompass a distinct advantage. Showing that the P2 can beat a Cutter is meaningless. The Cutter is no slouch, but when you try and fight a P2 or FDL, you are likely going to to lose.

But, if no other pure combat ship can match the P2, then, for a limited time, the P2 is pay to win. I'm no great pilot, but others who claim to be feel both ships (P2 & FDL) are pretty evenly matched. Hence, it's not pay to win.

Having to be the best in each and every role you can imagine is not part of any kind of a definition of P2W.
