It boggles my mind how those 3D assets are almays made to look cool from a distance, but are absolute rubbish from up close. That's not just for SC, literally any franchise does this.Meanwhile the list of 2023 excesses keeps on coming...

She has no way to take that helmet off, ever, since the head doesn't fit through the neck opening. There are hydraulic actuators that make no sense and don't have hoses attached in the first place (same as in Terminator, by the way), the thing on her helmet that seems to be a protective visor won't close and doesn't fit the helmet shape, ...
It really shows that noone puts thought into it, it's just a bunch of cool looking stuff from the bargain bin hot-glued together.

Low pay ...I mean low.
Interesting. I understood they didn't pay top dollar, but didn't realize it was below industry standard, unless this particular guy has unrealistic expectations or just got stiffed.
2m33s said:Are there plans for any cutscenes in Star Citizen?
Uh yeah we I think we'd all love that kind of stuff but those resources are currently tied up finishing Squadron 42. The cinematics team, the facial animation team, the, all
that stuff like that. And so that priority has to be there because that game is one that absolutely requires that.
Any plans to integrate the Galactipedia into Star Citizen to help players keep track of the ongoing narrative in the game?
Yes obviously something we'd all love very much, but that requires feature work and UI work. Again both both of those teams are working on not just finishing out Squadron 42 but, uh, bug fixing and optimizing the performance of the PU right now.
17m52s said:Why tell a story when you're in alpha?
Uh well part of it is this is giving narrative a chance to be in alpha as well. We've been learning so much in this past four months of, now that the mission
tools are in, now that the streaming content tools in, that we've been able to really ramp up how we deliver and you're going to be seeing that more this year.
The current respawn issue in 4.1 is a bug, not part of the storyline (20:19).

So this is the year of narrative, to build up the narrative aspects for the 1.0 launch. But most of the narrative related teams are stuck in SQ42... And the required tools are still in a mid-mesh flux...
I wonder if anyone has ever felt more like a living band aid...
EDIT: Kudos for the actual storyline though. 'NPCs suffer degrading technology'. I can feel the fidels already![]()

A company falling apart from top to bottom

Pros
There's nothing any more really. The company had a decent culture but it's being piloted by people at all levels will little compassion or support.
Cons
Where do I start.
I didn't get an "actual" pay rise last year, and was more just raised to match minimum wage. In the past several years I've been earning more than minimum wage, and last year that stopped. After getting promoted last year to try and get ahead again financially, the company decided a paltry offering of £400 was enough for me to be happy. This isn't an isolated incident, the company failed to provide a pay rise to more than half of its 1,000 staff last year, and then went on to lay off more and more staff, with there being no end in sight for the layoffs. No one trusts their managers or directors anymore, and the executives have turned into villains overnight. I've started looking elsewhere because I'm not staying at a company where I prove myself every single week just to be given even less money whilst I watch the 6 figure earners indulge themselves on the money of customers who know no better.
I've watched HR make some horrific decisions recently.
They failed to deliver pay reviews on time for the third year in a row, and when they've given out payrises, it's been lower than the previous year.
Several of my friends have been laid off for no good reason, even after actively fighting for their jobs. The money doesn't go back into the coffers, it goes into the pockets of the top line. A company funded by crowdfunding and they're using the funds to dine out with four or five figure spends every week. First class flights across the world. Expensive flats and private events.
Another friend of mine was let go recently after being subject to an abusive relationship, and their ex-partner has walked out of this unscathed, despite having a serious history of abuse, and having been observed committing gross misconduct in the workplace multiple times.
The rumour mill they're allowing to propagate the workplace is sickening, but is just a continued symptom of a long-standing out of control problem.
From the front desk to the darkest corners of the office, people spread more and more lies and create more and more drama, and the ones that are the problems are still here, whilst the people who are victims are isolated and excluded.
The tribalism in the workplace is ridiculous. No team communicates with another team. Producers are at each others throats when even a whiff of collaboration is mentioned. Patch after patch fails to meet a single deadline. Overtime is triggered at least twice a quarter. The company says its not mandatory but when you dont do it you bet it's going to be brought up on your performance review.
Advice to Management
Pay your bottom line more.
Reign in the pack mentality that is so virulent throughout the office.
If you're going to punish one side of a problem, punish both sides of it.
Don't let your co-workers date when they've demonstrated they're not capable of having a healthy relationship.
Don't reward the people who abuse your staff with promotions.
Stop working your staff into the ground for promotions that dont exist.
Tighten the spending at the top, not the staff count at the bottom. If you can afford to spend £4,000 on a directors meeting, you can afford to pay your staff.
Why do the executives need personal chefs?
Why is the company paying the rent of two executives apartments?
Start looking for new jobs. There's no way this studio sees out the decade, and for the wellbeing of everyone I hope it doesn't.
And finally, maybe release a game?
Oh wow, this latest Glassdoor...
More confirmation on the low-balled wages / promotions of recent years etc.
(I'm sure I've heard whispers of the private chef thing too, but can't remember where right now)
