New ship: Panther Clipper

Just bought another 50k ARX for 30 EUR on Steam, to support the future. And to get some of the shiny goodies, like that Copper theme for the Coriolis ;)

Looks decent enough I guess ;)

if it's over 1200T, it's going to be fun loading it up from an FC:) On the upside, My Elite SLF pilot will have to get off her backside and actually do some work instead of getting an automatic percentage of my earnings :p

I think it looks sweet. There's a lot to guess about and I'm not sure that the underbelly hatch is an SLF bay. It's a WIP but the details look a bit wrong, along with the proportions (but then so does the cargo hatch to be fair). Also, when I looked at the back, it looked like a closed ramp, so I'm curiously wondering if the back is a ramp entrance and the underbelly is also a loading lift/ramp?

Cargo-wise, I like the 2048 number a lot, 1024 not so much, 1536 and above acceptable. I think if it is 'just' a non-rank locked Cutter equivalent it would be somewhat disappointing for me personally, but I can understand how that might appeal to those who are Empire averse or haven't done the rank unlock requirements yet.

As far as handling/speed specs go, I think it should at least eliminate one out of three trips in a Cutter/Type-9 when loading/unloading a carrier and/or doing a surface port shopping trip, and the time it takes to leave masslock and dock etc.. is a large factor in that. Ie; it would be pointless if it can carry 1.5x the cargo of a Type-9 but takes 2x longer to make the trip there and back. It's one of the reasons why I stuck with the Type-9 - while the Cutter can haul a bit more and is a bit faster to and from the pad, the chances of overshooting and taking more time to get alignment right made it moot as the extra amount wasn't enough to cut a trip out and frankly the Type-9 handling was just better suited to the job and less fussy.

It having a couple of huge hardpoints would be ideal too, along with a beefy hull. This ship should one-shot small-medium pirates and hold up to sustained fire to a decent degree. The original description, IIRC, suggested that small pirate ships were like buzzing flies to it. It also mentioned that it could wipe out the stock of smaller stations too, so that should point to ~2,000t of cargo space as already mentioned.

There's something about the new ships that go beyond the newer styling, it's almost as if they are being designed in a way that accommodates future plans for ship interiors much better than the older ships do...

I think everyone's getting themselves ready for a massive let down.

It's as long as a Cutter and as wide as a T9...
... but 2/3rds of it is legs, feet & thrusters.

Internals are going to top out at Class 8.
I dont imagine a 773,000,000 CR 9A Prismatic being on ALDs release slate anytime soon
I appreciate CMDRs aren't going to fit a shield but ZP has to ensure there's room for one
in case PF Graduates come down with a sudden bout of sanity.

Also guessing:
Hull = 1500 tons
C8 PP, Thrusters, PD & FSD ( = 560 tons)
C7 LS & Sens = (160 tons)
Opt: Class 8 Prismo (= 320 tons)

Total w/no Hardpoints/Utilities/Cargo = 2540 tons
~500 tons (or 25%) more chungus than a similar spec, engineered Prismo Cutter

Cargo... ignoring that it looks like its mostly appendage... maybe 33% more than Cutter/Type 9.... 1000 tons. Tops.
If form follows function, then it's going to be a lot closer to the other large ships.

If its got anywhere near 1500T cargo trust me i can take the heat! :ROFLMAO:

It'll need 4x that capacity for my Arx wallet to open.

If it is going to be a big hauler, it's gotta go large big time - and anyone who has been around in the game pre-3.3 will be quite aware how 'balanced' FD insist on being (apart from the Cobra Mk V, which is almost good fun) in order to not upset the applecart of MMO gaming.

Now, that's a meme I've not heard in a long time. A long time.
Typing Panther into the advanced forum search and setting the date control to before 31 July 2016 returned over ten pages of posts mentioning Panther and I hadn't got out of February.
If you search for posts by a certain Bigmaec and for Panther Clipper you get 5+ pages alone.
No need to mine. Just open the scoop and store the asteroids in :D
Now we're talking!

I like what they did with the C5. It’s clearly OP and completely unbalanced compared to the other small ships, but since it’s just a small ship there are many roles that other larger ships are better at. It’s just a really fun ship, without breaking the game.
