Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

A rare Erin appears...

TLDR:
  • Moving away from 'Dynamic Event' style missions.
  • More instanced mission locations. (As leaks of old foretold ;))
  • More older services don't work with 'Dynamic Server Meshing' and need reworks.
  • The current refactors will be completed... um... bzzt ** crackle **
  • SQ42 resources will flood back to PU next year. Again.
  • Only releasing features when they're definitely ready...
  • Musical radio station scope creep? Absolutely!

# Post (Video) | Additional Answers from Erin at Beijing Bar Citizen

-# The above video is a primarily in Chinese, but has a few choice voice recordings of interesting questions and answers in English. I've transcribed them here and I'll come back to this if the other answers from the video are interesting (not able to translate them at this very moment).

## Are there any Raids planned for the Future?

Erin Roberts: This year.

Interviewer: When will the Siege of Orison return?

Erin Roberts: Well we're actually moving away from that type of mission. What we're trying to do now is build missions, or build locations you can go to where they're always there and you can always do stuff. So the idea is that we're trying to fill the world with more and more things to do, so as a new player you can go "oh I go here to do that, I go here to do that, I get that from over here". With Siege of Orison it's a one off event which basically turns on then turns off, which is kind of cool, then when it's gone it's gone. So what we're working really hard now is creating a lot of locations in the game where you will go and visit and you can go to a lot of different tasks and a lot of different things, and also some of them - if you joined (PVE) rather than PVP, we're going to basically look at building some areas which are more instanced so you could go in with your self or your friends then go in and fight the environment rather than other players and so forth. We're going to start bringing that to the game soon.

## When will the Refactor of the Item Management System and the Ground Vehicle Elevators be Implemented?

Erin Roberts: That's being worked on behind the scenes now.

Interviewer: Maybe this year?

Erin Roberts: Stutters a bit, unsure how to answer.

Interviewer: No?

Erin Roberts: We're focusing very very heavily on Squadron, so that's taking a lot of our resources so a lot of stuff goes to Squadron first then it enters the PU. Once Squadron's finished next year then a lot of those resources will come back to the PU and so forth. But we are looking at a bunch of the PU, but on the systems side some of the systems we have to reconfigure some of the systems because some of the old systems don't work with dynamic server meshing, although we have server meshing now we need dynamic server meshing and so we have to re-and so some of these systems we're talking about are all-we've had too many years where we deliver and then the game doesn't work and then you guys get very angry, so what we're trying to do now is we're making sure every time we deliver the game's functioning, we trying to make sure it's better each patch. So when we put a new system in, we're going to really test it for release.

Interviewer: We're really happy to see it.

Erin Roberts: We're going to leave it, we'll test it for a long time behind the scenes, and then when we feel it's definitely ready then we'll put it into the patch. That's why some of the systems are taking longer now, because even though the work's all done, we need to integrate it into the code, we need to test it, make sure it's all working properly, then we'll do an EPTU with it. By doing that, we're extending it 3 or 4 months each time but I think it's worth it to make sure the actual game's stable and ready for it.

## Radio Feature? (For music)

Erin Roberts: Yeah we can do that yes. This doesn't mean it's happening tomorrow.

Oh lol and, from an evo bug report...

The mid-size worm is looking like a well-refined feature already 😁

Interesting thread regarding ccu chain min maxers. Can’t claim I’m an expert on the matter but it would seem CIG is consciously or inadvertently eliminating avenues for buyers to grow their fleet value through small incremental ccu opportunities and careful discount planning. According to the OP those days are gone, being replaced by limited more expensive ccus, which defeat the point.

A couple choice comments:
this gameplay - because yes, for many of us it's a kind of meta-game - feels like it's being quietly killed off.
There are no WB CCUs to Arrow, Cutlass, Gladius, etc. - ships that used to be ideal midpoints.

And that shuts down strategic pledging unless you’re ready to drop $300+ in one go.
What’s frustrating is that this method - once clearly supported by CIG - is now being dismantled because some people abused it or treated it like a black market.
That probably applies to individual resellers/speculators. But I doubt any eventual money launderers mess with ccu min maxing at all. They probably just buy and resale at a discount loss if necessary. Any money they can get back is good.

My guess is that SC doesn’t care about ccu minmaxing because there is probably a lot more sale volume going through potential money laundering than through bonafide speculators.

Time is very strange in Citizania...
I still haven't fired SC up in anger since 3.17...bar being guilt tripped into sitting in a turret or being infantry fire support to keep Badger company on a rare occasion. I haven't flown any of my ships since 3.17 either as I really can't be bothered going through the purgatory of setting up the control bindings in SC for the new Virpil hotas, never mind fighting through all the bugs in game.

Still dabbling in the occasional ship shuffling with store credit though... since I've still got plenty to spare. I'm slowly turning into yet another SC keyboard rattler instead of being a player. I can't remember ever being like this with any other game...like at a point where the mental effort involved in playing it reduces it to being more of a chore than fun.

So the mechs have mainly stopped killing this patch. But I reckon they're just biding their time ;)

I had an ATLS turn into a ghost in my Starlancer cargo bay several days ago. So I called out a second one, used it for a few days...

As I was putting it back into the cargo bay, I watched it bet schlurped up into the ceiling. What the flip? I went up the elevator, into the engine room behind the habs, and turns out both ATLS were in there. I tried to carry them out the door, but they schlurped into the ceiling again.

One ended up on top, the other stuck in the ceiling itself. Doesn't matter too much, the landing pads ate my Starlancer an hour later and destroyed everything anyways.

The Polaris contains a digital download of SQ42?

The future is here!
I know you're taking the Mick...but nah. Unfortunately that's just the bottom 3 ships in my main game package (the list was a bit long to post as a short image)...To my shame, I've got a few standalones and LTI tokens in the hangar as well...

In my defense, I was infected by the store citizen CCU idiocy virus at an early age :censored:

The free Launch Week collector item is a $0 purchase in the pledge store this year and only visible to SQ42 newsletter subscribers for obscure reasons.
3. It required me to go to the store. Just like free hotdogs at the furniture store, it got me in the building. So maybe they were hoping I'd look around? Since I was loading up my cart...maybe I'd put something else in it at the same time?

It's the paradox of Star Citizen in one sentence:
"Pay like it's a AAA, grind like it's a live game, lose everything like it's an alpha."

So many things start to make so much more sense when we simly replace the use of "alpha" in SC context for "bad, broken game".

There really is no paradox. SC is no more paradoxical than any other game sold out there that happens to be bad and broken. And there are lots of those.
