Nav-Lock drops my ship from SC

I am experiencing a strange behaviour: My ship has nav-lock on, my friend and I are in team mode, both in super-cruise. Whenever he jumps into the next system, I drop from super-cruise, instead of being pulled into a hyperspace jump.
What am I doing wrong?

Hard to say without more info. First the more obscure stuff:
  • You were both in SC, so it was not mass lock.
  • If it happened just sometimes, i would ask if you might have a "vision still obscured" to the destination. Your friend might have cleared the space around a planet and hit the switch, but you did not have clear view yet.

But i think these are oddities. The real question is: how far can your ship jump, and how long jumps does your friends ship plan? It might very well be that his jump range is significally longer, so he keeps jumping to systems your ship can not reach?

If this is not it, i don't know yet. Would have to have more info. And also got to admit, as my friends stopped playing years ago, if something broke in this system in the last years, i would not have noticed. Also, i remember that there was some kind of "out of nav lock" range in old times. If he was too far away, the thing would not work properly. But i don't remember the details for that any more.

Thanks for the clarifying questions. Your assumptions are right:
  • We are both in SC, both same team, team beacons on on both ships
  • no mass lock
  • no obscured jump target
  • my ship has a good 8 ly more jump capability
  • we tried distances between the two ships ranging from 0.3 ls to 12 ls
  • drop happens every single time
Some years ago (2021) it worked flawlessly.
I am scratching my head. It is particularly annoying because now I have to wait until he completes the jump (or is very near completion), only then I see the destination in the wake and can initiate my FSD.

Then it indeed sounds like something is wrong with the script.
Maybe try out some constellations with who is in what flight type and document what happens for a usable bug report?
could be indeed a bug. Before opening a ticket, I wanted to check with the community first if it is PEBCAK or something which is borked by FDEV :p
If there's any player who can confirm that they observe this behaviour, too, then I don't feel like an idiot.

Wondering if there's any player around in the forum who is using the feature? All lone wolf explorers?
In the old days(TM) there were some events like Drew Wagar's lore tours which made extensive use of the FSD slaving...
