COMPLETED CG Support Edmund Mahon in trade war (Trade)

i've never done any powerplay. is 40.000 a good amount? is it worth signing up for this dude before the cg ends?
40,000 is five ranks in normal play, or if you're signing up for the first time, because the first few ranks are slightly quicker, will get you almost all the way to rank 9 (and then the intro tasks for Powerplay itself will add a few more on to that, which you'll need to complete to activate your rank benefits). Equally, there are 100 ranks to gain so skipping 5-10 of them is nice to have but hardly defining.

If you were thinking of joining Mahon anyway, it's better to have it than not, certainly.

The question is probably more whether Mahon is the right power for you
- do you spend more of your time in or near Alliance space than in other parts of the bubble?
- do you like trading? (what about mining or exploring?)

If so, Mahon is probably a good choice of Power and getting this as a sign-up bonus is certainly worthwhile.

If not, you might find that you rank up considerably quicker in a different power (and enjoy it more), so that you can gain 100 ranks in that power quite a bit faster than you'd gain 90 ranks for Mahon.

my preferred activity is massacre missions in a haz res. i don't mind a bit of trade to break it up, and exploring while i do that. mining is a big no from me... colour blind. couldnt spot a deep core asteroid if it slapped me in the face...

but thanks for the info.. appreciated . o7

It sounds like a combat-oriented power like AL Duval or Archer would be good for you then. It's possible to combine massacre missions, bounty hunting, and earning merits, and you get bonus money and merits from the pledge.

I didn't need to do the intro missions for Archer when that one happened.
It's a decent amount of mats and a few extra credits if you want them, if you want to stick with the power afterwards or just cash out is upto you, though clear all the care packages before unpledging, (this might mean a few trips to the mat traders and bar tenders...)

Anyone else having issues adding special effect to these reward PD modules?

All my other pre-engineered modules have the following (or something similar) in the description:
"This is a pre-engineered module and cannot be engineered"
...but I can still add experimental effects.

These new PDs have the following:
"This is a pre-engineered module and cannot be engineered and cannot have an experimental effect added"
The engineer UI doesn't allow me to select the PD at all.

Deliberate? Oversight? Bug?

Quite deliberate. The text is not wrong.

Sad but true. Super Conduits or Cluster Capacitors could have elevated these modules to not entirely terrible. Or maybe not. The only ships that really benefit from system focused are using Biweave shields. That'll usually be combat ships, and you don't want to gimp the weapons on that. Engine focused only benefits smaller ships that do not have enough recharge to get more than 2-3 boosts in a row.

Not entirely true. Engine focused is what I use on all non combat ships (open play only). If you get ganked, 4 pips to system for harder shields and 2 pips to engines. 2 pips in engines and engine focused engineering allow you to keep boosting longer to avoid incoming fire while your fsd charges.

Well, I'm really not sure what all the technobbable means, but I just got overall better stats from the 6A PD on my hauling shieldless Cutter, down from its 7A CE/SC.

Gained 1.1 Ly jump range which can make a difference when hauling for CGs, and I feel no noticeable difference in its perma-boost capacity.

What's your reason for calling that "overall better stats"? The recharge is lower for SYS and ENG, but the capacity is higher.

Mostly because they all turned blue? 😅

I'm focusing on the stats in the lower part of the screen, not the upper right. I don't need SYS for a shieldless Cutter. All I need is enough speed and power in ENG to permaboost away from NPC pirates, plus all the jump range I can get. All achieved with this new 6A.

Overall better stats in my book.

Something isn't mathing here.. possibly the comparison screen.
A grade 5 charge enhanced + super conduits 7A power distributor should have 37.39 MJ and a 6.03 MW recharge. So (without actually doing this math) your 6A may get a few more boosts up front, but in an extended comparison, the 7A will eventually win with the better recharge.
But that's so many boosts it doesn't matter in practice.

But that's so many boosts it doesn't matter in practice.
On a shieldless unarmed ship, any distributor which can recharge more than the boost volume in the boost interval can infinitely boost, and both the 7A CE and the 6A special are well above that rate with 4 pips.

Coriolis suggests you need about 3.4 MW charge rate to get that on a Cutter, which a 6A (or lighter, 7D) with two levels of engine-focused or charge-enhanced can deliver

If you're willing to engineer your own distributor rather than just taking the free CG one out of opportunism, then a 5A or 6D with at five levels of engine-focused or charge-enhanced is even lighter and still generates sufficient recharge rate for that particular job.

Of the 10 new distributors, I've used 5. They're useful on ships that don't do combat, such as cargo or passenger haulers.

Most useful for me was on my iCourier. Replaced its 3A distributor with a new 3D one. Gone from just over 800m/s to about 840m/s Nice!

Yeah, the pre-eng 6A is slightly heavier than necessary to achieve (very nearly) permaboost on a Cutter. The required recharge (more easily seen in EDSY than in Coriolis) is actually 3.83 MW, but the 3.74 achievable with a 5A is so close to the permanent level that you'd need to boost almost 40 times before you'd run out with the 5A :)

Hi All :)
I very nearly forgot about these engineered Power Distributors!...I've yet to collect them as I'm busy doing other tasks at the moment. So that's 10 new distributors that's turned up in my Outfitting stored modules menu...not a bad haul really for a CG, it was worth doing.

.

Interesting, I'll try one out on my courier to see if there's any difference to the 3D one I've already got installed. (y)

Jack :)
