New ships: 2025

The number of ships you can store on your FC is too damn low!

Once i buy the CM5 i'm going to have to decide which of my ships to dock at a station. Also, on DW3, i'm parking all my ships on the official FCs, so will need to park on two of them instead of one.
I sometimes think this.

Then I wonder if its my fault for deciding to put 8 FdLs on there.

No, definitely FDevs fault for making the carrier hanger too small.

Suppose I could just sell all my small ships since the Cobra mkV supercedes all of them.

Well, they've said the medium lineup is complete. Which is sad, since a medium Saud Kruger is missing (even though the Orca would technically fit in all dimensions !).
Sounds good though - assuming very optimistically that a complete lineup is each of a combat, trade, exploration and multipurpose ship.

Narwhal as a large multipurpose?
Imperial Explorer?
Hawk or Osprey as small combat ships?

Plus whatever Lovecraftian monstrosity is going to be the large combat ship that takes over from the Corvette/T-10.

I'll say, hmmmm,
Large (Alliance) Combat ship.
Yes! If not, the Panther Clipper will have to serve as my large Alliance combat ship (ZP being based in Alioth - Edit: nevermind, I'm thinking of Lakon. ZP are a subsidiary of Faulcon DeLacy, based in Reorte though, so kind of geographically Alliance related still).

As a curveball, I want one of the two new ships to actually be two ships... Core Dynamics and Gutamaya have a design competition, where CD makes their take on a Cutter, and Guta makes their version of a Corvette.

And then to double-down on the curveball, and with a few months of testing squadron carriers, the second 'new ship' could be fleet carrier overhaul bonanza, where the current mechanics are gutted and replaced with much more modularity.

What if the panther clipper ll was capable of deploying a real fighter. Like for example : A fdl, or corsair. Or any smallish ship?
That could be piloted by either a cmdr with the existing gameplay multiplayer loop, or an npc (Assuming you have one)?
A python ll would be too big.
But a Lance or a cobra 5 etc would give the behemoth teeth.
Allowing it to escape interdiction or normal attack whilst the smaller ship deals with the attacker. Much like how it is now only the ships alot better and can really waylay the ganker/pvper.
This would really play out well in powerplay scraps. Where cargo vessels are vulnerable.
And id go a stage further by allowing type 9s and cutters the same. Only their fighter (fdl corsair etc) would piggy back on the top or bottom of the vessel. Plus deploying an existing fighter from an installed hangar. Could really be a game changer.
Just a mad thought.

Kinda related, please let me duct-tape my double-barrel Vulture shotgun to my Vette, so I can have some fun BHing while my NPC does the tanking instead of the other bloody way around 🥺

Large, Long Range Explorer and Science vessel with 100 LY+ Jump range.

While capable of landing just like any other large ship, for exploration it would launch an SLF (technically not a fighter in this case) and you'd fly down to the planet and jump out the cockpit NO MAN'S SKY style, do some exploring, collecting samples etc.. then fly back up to the mothership.

The SLF would only have a supercruise or SCO supercruse drive rather than a full FSD and would also have the ability to land on outposts (there's that small private docking bay most have in their sides)... and land at small colonies to enable the commander to select missions or hand in data / on foot missions without the need for an L sized pad when cargo is not involved.

There could be a new SLF (again technically not a fighter) That has an SRV bay and 2 or 4 units of cargo.

Exploration mechanics would also be updated for the first time in a decade to include scanning and "sciencing" Black Holes, Neutron Stars, White Dwarfs... Sampling Nebula gasses, dipping into the atmospheres of Gas giants etc.

we can only dream...

Good question, what other roles are we missing? Or at least haven't seen a new ship for recently.

A new aquatic mammal named passenger ship? That mechanic could also do with reinvigorating.

Perhaps when the roadmap says "ship" they might be slightly misleading us, perhaps we will see the Ship Launched Fighters revamped and toughened up?

I was hoping that colonization would require the shipping of copious people and their goods out to the frontiers once it started but alas, they invented teleportation.

Or the ability to interact more meaningfully with the passengers and maybe even get sudden missions to retrieve some collectable or plant samples from a planet. Or let him alight to see Braintrees in real life etc.

Rescue a family from a colony and guide them all up the ramp of your ship as pirates attack...

Air or ground drop troops from a high altitude carrier a High Ground CZ without getting shot down.

A new Elite Rank for such passenger based or even rescue and relocation missions.

all sorts of ideas...

I nominate:

Interplanetary Shuttle - From FE2

Non modular

1E FSD (SCO) - 0 LY Jump Range

4 tons of cargo space

SRV bay

Room for 2 commanders.

No weapons, minimal shields, minimal armor.

There was the Worm Landing shuttle from OG Elite. (Or am I misremembering)
I always wanted to fly one down to a planet.

I also wanted to pilot a Fluke from the original ED combat training missions...

Or drive one of those yellow trucks around a hab ring of an Oculus station.

That...THAT's INSANE!..

Just allow two NPC SLF's bringing it inline with multicrew capabilities.
OR..one sidewinder/eagle.

Well an eagle or sidey is ok. Sliding scale ⚖️
But having a full on fighter on, or piggybacked onto a vulnerable ship that's fully freighted is a fab way to give said freighter a fighting chance against murderboats. And a whole new angle on powerplay shenanigans.
If an eagle or sidey why not a fdl.?

Rather than seeing another ship bolted onto or carried by another, why not allow assigning up to 3 hired pilots to some of your ships which then fly as wingmen with you ? This would finally give a real reason to hire and train more than one. I'm expecting to see rebuys though. Last time I let the NPC fly one of my ships, their pip management was pure cringe. I've never seen the shields of my Corvette drop so fast.
