Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Elliot Maltby (Lead Mission Designer) back with the hard truths...

I don't know what kind of issues you have but the game is the most stable and performant from the last patches

Pfffftwhahahahaha, you're funnier than the other guy who used to post in exactly the same format, with the pages of 'pretty' screenies and imaginarium levels of explanation of various fantastic "experiences" to be had in the SC "verse" (psst, they're not real, it's just imagination). Wish I could remember that guys name and re-quote his posts just to "side by side" them with yours, for science. :)

Lets all be honest here, it isn't a game, it's just junk being propped up by peoples inner hopes and dreams and the pretty graphics are just there to rope people in. I've played it recently, nothing works reliably and even when things sort of work, it's still hopeless. The only reason it gets talked about at all is because of how terribly bad it is and how much this amount of terrible has cost. :)

Well, yeah ;)

Hot Gossip:

After various ominous signs for Montreal designers (a string of departures, recruitment moving entirely to the UK, a team with no mandate in place with a week to go), the whole department just got canned. Lay offs, with a 'not great' severance package :/

(As an aside, one reason given for mandate delays was the wait on a blocker: A new tech coming 'in about a year' ;))

---

The Turb white charger ain't saving the day then. It's up to Erin's merry men...

Going by the loose way they're discussing it I'm guessing they got it from the Rants discord.

(I mentioned it there, and they were discussing the chunky payouts for Benoit etc as part of the Turb buy-out).

Don't think that kind of fuzzy posting is that helpful though. If/when Linkedin confirms, then's the time to get a broader debate going.

For now there's just intriguing hiring signals coming out of the UK...

Never seen them bulk-hire like that before. (Possibly suggests the size of the team lost).

The text you used here was referring to a certain designers “department” though. Not the whole office as that Reddit post suggests. Not sure about the exact wording you received from the leak. Could be that the leak was also alluding to the whole thing? No idea.

I don't think they know what "created" (in simple past tense) actually means ;)

Nope, it's def just the design department being discussed by my contact.

I'd say this is certainly just a case of someone running with the info and getting it wrong.

(Not that this is a great sign for Montreal. Wouldn't be surprised to see it go full Austin over time).

On a completely different tack, this burner account claims to be a CIG dev...

Someone from the inside has something to say :)

Alright, listen up. 1. PTU != Live.
Every cycle we deliberately mess with values, spawn rates, mission payouts, or (last couple of week’s drama) Wikelo’s scrip so we can hammer a brand-new gameplay loop. It’s a controlled experiment. The whole point is to stress test, gather metrics, then revert before the build goes live. Screaming at us “CIG is ruining the game!!1” in the middle of the PTU is like yelling at a chef for tasting the soup while it’s still boiling.
  1. You are testers.
You paid for ALPHA ACCESS. That means your primary job is to break things and file Issue Council reports, not farm credits in peace and expecting a finished game after every patch.. Your “immersion” comes after we finish collecting data. If you hatee that, maybe wait for 1.0 instead of clogging Reddit with salt. Right now your "experience" or "fun" is not a relevant factor for our developemnt and the sooner you understand your Role the better for the project.
  1. PvP / PvE balance.
Yes, getting popped by what you call “murder hobos” sucks somethimes.. but it is part of the gane and will change with time as more controlled zones and crime stat penalties are introduced. The next 12 months already have active work on safer lawful zones, org-controlled hubs, and reputation-based crime penalties. We’re also iterating on shield tech, flight model, and the whole crime/stat system. What you see now will look nothing like mid-2026. Until those systems land, group up, hire escorts, or accept the risk. Reddit meltdowns won’t help us code any faster, and if you still need a Hint: THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE HAPPENING! The teams never intended for Star Citizen to deliver a 100% feeling of "safety", and if you would have paid attention, you would have seen the signs we left along the way, such as disconnecting satelite arrays so crimes can be commited without being tracked. We want people to experience freedom, and freedom does go both ways, its up to you later on to know where it is safe for you to be and where it isn't. Thats the intended balance for PVP/PVWE!
  1. Exploration != Private Disneyland.
Storm Breaker, orbital mining, contested zones.. are an exploration test beds: dooor locking tech, suit-gated hazards, on site clue-hunting-building blocks for future raids, caves, and wrecks-sites. Right now every "tourist" and their Cutty as well as Orgs pile in because it’s shiny and new. after release traffic drops and it becomes just another POI. Crying that “exploration is impossible because PvP!” misses the point... we need players on-site now to stress all the new systems which will then be used to create even more POIs in the future. Again... this is not designed for you to "have fun" right now, but for us to gather DATA! After release you probably wont see orgs closing orbital mining sites around the clock as it was during the first week on LIVE, and IF it happens on 1.0, we will adjust stuff to even out the experience for all players and achieve what we envisioned for the exploration gameplay. But with the amount of POI with open-world/sandbox activities we have planed, you will probably be able to explore and enjoy way more PvE than PvP on those sites! Still, never feel to comfrtable as this is still an open world game where each player devcides how to play the game themselves!
  1. “CIG doesn’t listen.”
We read the IC, Spectrum, telemetry dashboards, and yes, this subreddit. What we don’t read are tantrums with zero actionable info. If your post boils down to “game bad,” congrats... you’ve helped nobody.
  1. Morale matters.
Every PTU wave spawns fifteen near-identical doom-posts declaring Star Citizen dead, Star citizen bad, CIG bad... It drives new players away, wastes dev hours filtering through the sea of salt, and hurts the thing you claim to love. The community mood right now is so skewed that even perfectly good patches (140+ silent fixes in 4.1.1, by the way) get buried under negativity...
I’m risking a stern email for posting, thats why this is a throwaway account, but somebody needed to say it straight:
Stop whining. Start testing. Log the bug on IC, attach your repro steps, move on. The sooner we get good data, the sooner the fun bits hit Live.

And honestly, that could easily be one of their Jnr believer devs ;). Just repeating all the dual-purpose cope lines (which are for both external and internal consumption), and holding out for the next vN Jesus Techs...

EDIT:

Archived here and here

One of their predictions coming true here:

Well well well
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...ad/star-citizen-alpha-4-2-1-ptu-patch-notes-2
Greenzone Security Re-Activation
Greenzone security around Stanton Space Stations has been re-activated in 4.2.1. This includes a complete re-balance of security forces with escalating response to accumulated crimerates in the area.

LOL, real dev or not, they sure do get salty when someone throws the "you're not meant to be enjoying the game, you're meant to be testing it" right back in their faces.

One of the guys on my Discord posted a "What would you love to see added to the game next?" With a list of over 20 features (engineering, base building etc.).

99% of the replies were: none of the above, but stable backend should be the top priority.

If only CIG was notified...

In theory that's what this 'Year of Stability' is all about.

(Expect this to be as good as it gets ;))

Oh they know. They just seem completely unable to fix the game or the code.

But this is not new, CIG has stated similar intentions in the past years ago. The more new garbage systems or content they add to the game the harder it gets for CIG to fix it.

The end result is a crappy, broken mess of a product. The only viable course of action for CIG to get sales is to continue misrepresenting the state of the game, do whatever it takes to avoid early access reviews, and gaslight the community into thinking that it all can get fixed.
