Mamba buffs?

The one thing the Mamba had going for it is the speed.
However with the release of the Corsair hitting 600 easily we don't really have that advantage anymore. (Unless you sacrifice weight somewhere)
FDEV put out new skins for it but I'm hoping they revisit the stats of these ships

and here I thought I remembered I was part of discussions where people complained the Corsair was too slow. Now it is too fast?

I think it is inevitable that old designs get surpassed, and possibly retired by new ships. This was also part of all the discussions when people posted "need new ships" threads every week. With what, 38 ships already in the game before we got the new ones, there was really only a couple of ways this could go:

  • new ships are worse than the old ones - riot, accusing Frontier of wasting time and money
  • new ships basically the same in a different form factor - riot because Frontier lazy and incompetent
  • new ships better than the old ones - riot, because muh old ships are now worse than the new ones

In my opinion, when you constantly call for new content (ships in this case), power creep of some shape or form is inevitable. There's still enough reasons to fly the old ships, even if those reasons are just "because I can" and "it looks cool". If efficiency and performance is all you care about.... well, sell your Mamba, it's deprecated. Wait, not really, it still flies fast in a straight line and sports a huge hardpoint. So there's that.

yeh its weird how a dedicated racing yacht newly built in lore can have a fully laden, armored and armed corsair creeping up on it.
the mamba's body is like 50% engine yet the corsair has a size 7 just because money.

nothing fdev designed in elite ever made any sense in the slightest and they never go back on any decision they make, just look at the t7 it has a 5th hardpoint youre not allowed to use because its other flaws were not bad enough.

would be nice to get enhanced performance trusters for the mamba at least, even through a CG

obsoleting ships like they are doing now cant be good in the long run money wise because they could still sell terrible skins and kits for all of them.
so im hoping the new feature coming in december will be actual stealth mechanics and sco drives don't stealth

If mamba was released during the SCO era it would have released with its biggest current issues fixed. It's balance is a result of the time it was released in

To be frank, there really isn't much reason to go over 600m/s. Beyond that you don't really have control.

Mamba still has better overall speed and 6 utility slots, so it's still quite good imo.

The Mamba is a perfectly fine ship for PvE.
For PvP, it is said that the higher TOP speed can give an advantage to experienced players vs FdL or Pythion 2. I am yet to see that confirmed.
With these few extra m/s BOOST speed, you may run away from a Corsair that has been so popular lately (the opposite does not work, since the Mamba cannot mass lock them).

But all in all, the biggest advantage of the Mamba is how sleek and shiny it looks like :)

The Corsair can't be faster or more maneuverable than a Mamba because it's just ugly butt ugly. My Mamba is a beautiful ship with good visibility (not the best but ... ) and it simply looks faster than light. ... a catamaran racer for space with a big stinger attached.
nuff said other than the Corsair needs balanced downward or the Mamba upward
Have a marvelous day

This is why my solution has generally been 'new extra slot that only uses (role) type modules' so you lose nothing, but gain potential flexibility, but everyone still freaks out about it, I dunno.
When you're a bubble crawler that may not be such an issue but there are players who are far from the bubble and see such changes as detrimental.

By the way, how many car manufacturers call in a 10 year old car and equip it with newest technology (for free)?

There's a few mamba buffs that'd benefit all ships. If we could get configurable weapon convergence that'd be nice. Set it so that all the weapons aim at the same point at a certain distance. off, 500, 1000, 1500, 2500, 5000m.

Limpet controllers with built in limpet storage. You couldn't take cargo but at least you could gather mats. There's not a lot of slots on a mamba so sometimes it's hard to justify using 2 for limpets you don't strictly need.

Combined flight assist module. Save slots spend credits and fitting.

DSS + SRV bay module. Again save slots scan the planet, land on the planet and do what you want to do.

Everything can be done with a mamba but a bit more flexibility for all would certainly be felt on the mamba since it doesn't have a lot of wiggle room and is fun to fly.

I still love my Mamba as I'm not too enamored with the Corsair.
