Planet Zoo | Asia Animal Pack | Announcement

I would also prefer the mainland species, but according to my knowledge, they are basically the same visually, it should be relatively easy to just ignore the “japanese” part in their name.
And we do not know it is not going to climb, better wait for confirmation on that and then be mad.
IMO to see the difference you'd need a microscope. Their chromosomes are different which I find another interesting thing about this animal.

If they're practically the same, why is it that they get 2 separate species but then tigers have to be lumped together despite several differences?

Honey badger, deer, another monkey (even though I'd prefer a Colobus) and the free butterfly are genuinely the only interesting part about this, and tbh I could live with the honey badger simply being bundled in a safari pack with better picks than these. I love elephants, I'm sure you can tell that, yet another one is the last thing this game needed. If anything it should have been the African forest elephant, but a different orangutan, giraffe or zebra all would make more sense while we already have different elephants and rhinos. These recent packs are obvious filler while the stuff that seems more reasonable is being saved for the sequel.

From the images I've seen online, their colouring looks pretty different.
Also, again, the japanese species is a lot more terrestrial (an excuse to avoid adding climbing animations)

I think, whether it climbs or not, the choice of the Japanese species was because of its cultural importance to Japan and resulting popularity online, not because Frontier wanted to use an obscure fact as an excuse to be lazy. Not that the excuse works anyway, given Japanese raccoon dogs still climb.

Also do you have a source for that? Genuinely asking just because I can't find anything on it online, so I'm wondering if I'm looking in the wrong places.

Personally I think the differences between Japanese and mainland are pretty pronounced, but I also suppose I might be particularly attuned to them in this instance. Wikipedia actually has a great comparison picture. Mainland's mask tends to look "fuller", their coat is more mottled and darker, the contrast between the legs and coat on the Japanese is more pronounced. Truthfully I would've had a very, very weak preference to getting the mainland species, but at that point it's like getting upset that I won $999,000 instead of the flat million.

Still, nothing can salvage this animal for me.
Personally, I find it to easily be the worst inclusion since the black rhino (and that's saying a lot)

Wikipedia says that the Common raccoon dog is the only canine, together with the Gray Fox, that regularly climbs trees; on the page for the japanese raccoon dog, however, it says that "it has been observed climbing trees"... Implying that probably it doesn't climb nearly as much

Can you please elaborate? I simply don't understand your burning hatred towards this animal. Is it just because it's yet another canid?
It's another canid and it's a super obscure species in terms of captive presence.
Also, to me it's a boring animal that I'll most likely never use

It's kinda funny with these two. We would expect sifakas to bounce since that's the primary means on moving on the ground. I don't think anybody expected the bush dogs to deep dive.
Yes, but remember that we assumed it woildnt jump because of the odd picture. It was a genuine surprise that it hopped, mostly because I think k everyone was relieved it wasn't a 1-on-1 reskinned lemur

Yeah I think you're just inferring something to support your disgruntlement there, there's no actual published evidence that there's any difference between mainland and Japanese raccoon dogs regarding their tree climbing skills.

I will never use the honey badger and I did not want it. But I dont spread this everywhere I can and I am just happy for the 2 Asian antelopesI wanted for years now. I am happy for you, that you like the Elephant, @nutrit got his Deer, happy for him and @biggest_dreamer got his/her Tanuki, which I also dont wanted or needed, but I am happy for him/her.
It's Okay you dont like the pack, but it seems you never like something. Everything is bad and so on, maybe just my impression of you.
