Lets hope we can engineer optimised cargo racks to a 100% boost in capacity.
I was thinking the same this morning: why go the trouble of introducing this whole setup when they could have just given the PC two additional c6 and c7 slots?
What's the balancing here? To prevent having too many cell banks? Too many AFMUs or limpet controllers... ?
Very likely to restrict the number of slots available for modules other than fuel tanks and cargo racks.
Or Shield Cell Banks. My speculation is to limit Hull reinforcement modules specifically; high-capacity vessels already can become extremely tough this way!
Can easily be solved for implementation into any ship: these new SCS can hold only cargo or fuel. What's the balancing here? To prevent having too many cell banks? Too many AFMUs or limpet controllers... ?
Ok so just aggregate the slots upwards towards C8, so that you get the same (intended) cargo potential, but less spots to fill up with other stuff. My speculation is to limit Hull reinforcement modules specifically; high-capacity vessels already can become extremely tough this way!
What do you mean, like... forced slot? conversion? If I want to put a cell bank in a C8 I'll just put a cell bank in my C8 and not engineer that slot (or whichever conversion mechanic there would be). Anyway, I don't see FDEV forcing players into ship setups, not when grandfathered modules are still in the game.Sooner or later, it will be available for engineering somewhere and placing into any ship, and by restricting what it can contain FD [...]
I mean cargo rack, engineered (optimized, enchanted, call it what you will) to accommodate more. 10, 30, 50% more, dunno.Ok so just aggregate the slots upwards towards C8, so that you get the same (intended) cargo potential, but less spots to fill up with other stuff.

My understanding is that these special cargo racks can only be installed in the special optional slots (which allow only cargo racks or fuel tanks). So even if we do get engineered cargo racks, in order to use them, you'd have to somehow prep the slot to receive them.engineered
We actually don’t know that yet. The obvious downside is that you will be carrying more mass along with the extra cargo. Added mass generally means a slower ship and less jump range.Otherwise they're just better cargo racks with no downside.
Yep.They've opened the door.

Power draw for their "specialness" (electronics etc) - perhaps something that would require/allow people to choose between weaponry/shields and cargo capacity? No, as my post says - and as per FDEV
You can only put these modules in SCS:
- Cargo Racks
- Fuel Tanks
- Optimised Cargo Racks
Why would you put standard CR's in there if they can take the OCR, I don't know![]()
Has it been confirmed that the special cargo/fuel slots won't be able to accommodate normal size modules of any type? The way I interpreted the announcement was that there are 2x size 7 + 2x size 8 slots, (and from what others have indicated later) only one of each is a special slot - I didn't hear anything that indicated that the special slots would only be able to take existing cargo racks and fuel tanks and new optimised versions of same.
Ah, the good old days! I remember working on servers that had their own dedicated rooms, with tak-mats on the way in, excellent air-conditioning (wonderful on a hot day) and a very scary tank of Halon gas hanging from the ceiling! Today's mobile phones are magnitudes more powerful, in both operation and storage, and fit in a pocket - still, I miss that air-con...Computers took whole rooms.
This all seems to me to just be people looking for a reason to complain.
This is the way...This all seems to me to just be people looking for a reason to complain.
Thanks. Missed that bit (or wasn't able to give to my full attention)."Players that fly ships with the military slots will be somewhat familiar with what we have done here. What the Panther has is that it has two slots that are specifically designed to only take specific modules, kind of like the military slots, but in this case instead of it being military gear it's basically storage modules, specifically this will be cargo racks and fuel tanks. But along with it, and this is the bit that's more unique to this slot than to stuff like the military slot is that there are specific modules that will only fit in these slots, so only the Panther can have them. And that is specifically a size 8 and a size 7 on the Panther, and there are two new modules, size 7 and 8, of a optimized cargo rack that has increased capacity."
01:21:20 in the stream.
I missed that too, and was trying to listen intently - must have been during one of the"Oh look, a cat!" times with my younger dog's enthusiasm to hear her own voice...Thanks. Missed that bit (or wasn't able to give to my full attention).

Anyone who is buying a PC for Arx is launching out of Shinrata DezrahSame reason you sometimes have smaller cargo racks than a slot can take - as I said, because outfitting doesn't sell the same stuff everywhere.
Also most ships when bought have a size smaller rack in the slot than it can take.
