6th Anniversary Animal

If we get one I think the American Black Bear is the most likely. Though I've been saying that since 2023 so what do I know. It would close up North American mammals, with other notable missing mammals being far behind in terms of familiarity.

Masai Giraffe, Nile Crocodile and a second lion are all also distinct possibilities.

Course it could be anything but those four seem the most obvious choices.

They’d still need changes though, however simple. The mute swan model doesn’t hide the primaries of the wing well when at rest, which is important for black swans given they have stark white primaries that are usually tucked beneath their wings when not in flight (the modded one just has all black wings, which isn’t accurate). They’re also slightly differently proportioned (slimmer and with longer necks for example) and have distinct ruffled feathers on the back of their wings.

I don't think this would be addressed since Frontier's bird models haven't exactly has a good track record for wings

Base game don’t have any Australian/Oceanian animal except for croc.

I was just wondering if maybe it’s time for them now to get the anniversary animal?

YFR wallaby - my personal preference
Gray kangaroo
Perentie
Rockhopper penguin
What else might be easy to make?

Lemur and leopard for Africa.
Red deer works for both Europe and Asia.
Peccary was kind of for both Americas too.

Besides what has been mentioned
  • Southern hairy-nosed wombat
  • Brolga
  • Freshwater crocodile/New Guinea crocodile (obviously not ideal for Oceania to have two crocs as the only habitat animals in the base game but they are easy to make animals haha)
  • A pinniped (Australian sea lion, New Zealand fur seal or brown fur seal)
  • Other wallabies (swamp wallaby, parma wallaby, agile wallaby etc)
  • Small macropods like pademelons, potoroos, bettongs and hare-wallabies

Maybe short-beaked echidna?

I think it's worth considering what are internally known as animal "types" (for lack of a better term) based on how animal models are stored in the game files. Here's a basic idea of how habitat animals are grouped:
Types - Folders.jpg

Animals in the "unique" each tier have a single folder where they're the only species present. There is some loose logic, but there's also some strange cases too.

Aside from peafowl having their own folder, the animals in monochrome tiers have DLC-exclusive folders. I wouldn't expect an anniversary animal to pull from one of those types.

Echidnas would require a new rig and lots of new animations, so they're not the kind of easy to make animal we'd usually expect as an anniversary gift.
But it would be the best choice for Australia though.

Brolga would be really cool addition but only if it would not rule out gray crowned crane.

there are some really strange groupings here like all the sheep but the dall being together the wisent not going with american bison and the fennec fox being more of a dog that the raccoon dog

Why is the dall sheep a deer, and the pere david deer not a deer?
