6th Anniversary Animal

Hot take: They won't give us the asiatic lion (or any other lion at all) because they would have to update the lion we already have, cause the difference in realism would be too severe.

I think it's worth considering what are internally known as animal "types" (for lack of a better term) based on how animal models are stored in the game files. Here's a basic idea of how habitat animals are grouped:

Animals in the "unique" each tier have a single folder where they're the only species present. There is some loose logic, but there's also some strange cases too.

Aside from peafowl having their own folder, the animals in monochrome tiers have DLC-exclusive folders. I wouldn't expect an anniversary animal to pull from one of those types.

Ah yes, the mighty Sand Cat, the biggest of the big cats.

The more I look at it the more it hurts.
I think the part I hate the most is that there are more antelopes in "Deers" than in "Antelopes", and yet there are at least three cervids in other categories including one in "Antelopes"...

Maybe this year they will do something special but probably the focus will be in JWE3 and probably planco 2 due its first anniversary. Remember kiddos we didnt have anything special for pz first anniversary due the virus...the new butterfly could be that lost animal we wanted for the first anniversary?

I feel the black swan wouldn't happen, let's be honest it was the selling point of Eurasia for lots of people, that's like adding another capybara or baboon as a free animal. Personally I could see something unique like a muntjac or ground Hog but sense clones are more likely, I will go with one of them. I feel a monkey has a good chance, I would bet on either Barbary Macaque, Squirrel Monkey, 2nd Capuchin, or Celebes Crested Macaque.

Or maybe Sumatran Orangutan with better fur and Gibbon rig pls frontier I beg

ABB and Nile crocodile are definitely much more requested by many in this community but still base game South America and Australia looks just ridiculously empty, so my idea of fun would be something from there.

Guanaco or Vicuña or both would be a dream come true. They are:
  • easy to make,
  • for me at least look different enough from their domestic cousins,
  • would bring new interspecies bonus,
  • they were not selling points of their packs,
  • would be realistic to create South American mixed habitats with capybara and rhea,
  • domestics would never be a good replacement for wild species,
  • imagine just having a domestic donkey and not having Somali wild ass or just an Alpine goat and no Markhor nor Ibex. For me it’s crazy even to think about it.

This really puts into perspective how bad every continent other than Asia and Africa were doing in base game. After years of DLCs it’s easy to forget about base games roster.

It's worth mentioning that the red deer and peccary weren't there on day one, so Europe and SA didn't even have that.

I will say, a temperate/ cold weather otter would be great to have. Admittedly I would still rather get our second bird for NA. However an American or Eurasian river otter could be cool!
I would personally go for Eurasian otter and keep a spot in North America for the sea otter.
