ship interiors - will they happen

Not to dissuade anything, but the ramp on the brand new Cobra Mk.5 disturbs the little pedant in me with its clipping into the bulkhead and door at its top end, and its telescopic struts just poking up without attaching to anything... :p

...and the semi-pointed stream-talk about the Clipper's bridge and its work stations made me think crew on deck, rather than moving about. Neither is likely to happen, I reckon, but we'll see... :7

The possibility of any level of ship interiors has been dismal since the beginning. The Developer's simply don't discuss it (please point me to a good one if it exists - ty).
Its always confounded me that they would detail model the cockpits and bridges for every ship, then do nothing with them. Putting your crew's butts in those seats was being asked about a decade ago. All that CAD work and its only for viewing. We should have been able to do more with the one interior that is modeled, since Holo-Me came out in the Commander's version v2.3, April 11, 2017. (that's a long time ago)
Have a great day

We've got a whole galaxy to explore, I don't see the point in looking inward to whatever my butt is sitting on.
Let's have more variety in what's outside the ship.

I don't vote on Reddit, but I do visit it from time to time. Incidentally, the number of votes is higher than the number of players who visit this Frontier forum.

Ah yes interesting that, the fact is though we don't know whether any of the people voting on reddit actually play the game, there are plenty of instances of votes being skewed due to manipulation by certain parties. This is one of the reasons votes on social media platforms aren't taken seriously by anyone, manipulation by bots or just by biased groups is far to easy.

I have a question and I see the thread has come to life. Can it be combined with the theme, new cargo compartments PCMK2?

There are 3 "direct" mentions of Ship Interiors that are actually "official".
Only the first one of them undisputable and "actually" direct.

1. David Brabens direct and unmistakable promise of Ship Interiors during Kickstarter.
This is basically the foundation of the "Zeal" if you wish to call it that, and what also denies any and all claims for this topic to just be "forgotten".
Either they give us Ship Interiors, a clear written admission of breaking that promise ... OR there will be Internet-Cries like these for the rest of Elites life ...

2. When Odyssey released there was a direct mention about Ship Interiors in written form in these very Forums:
"ship interiors will not be included at launch."
This is an extremely important sentence, as they could have just said "not included PERIOD". Yet they once again went out of their way to include these two little words which clearly imply the message that they WILL still come at some point after launch.

3. Community Manager Arthur Tolmie fleetingly mentions in some random dudes livestream, while clrearly being pressured into that situation and contradicting himself as well,
"At the moment, there are no plans for full Ship Interiors." A lot of opponents of Ship Interiors obviously still take this as the final nail in the coffin and their ultimate victory.
Of course it is not, as not only is this wording far from final, it also comes from a position of bias AND much more importantly, no solid basis of info from the actual developers side as is made clear by his ramblings later on (which very few people bothered to watch fully, but I did :D) {+ PS; "full" Ship Interiors does not mean "no" Ship Interiors ;)}

If you want, I can link and support all of this with clear evidence and have done so before, yet all that aside,
the strongest pro Ship Interiors argument is obviously the insane potential for monetization in the form of Arx-Store-obtainable Interior-Decorations.
E.g. Warframe.
The strongest counter-Argument:
Well, FDev has tried multiple times at this point to let Elite die and not too long ago a lot of ppl already considered it in maintanance-mode aka. deathbed.
Only their recent failiures, most notably "Age-of-Sigmar Realms-of-Ruin" made them return to their once Gold-Mule Elite, and yet Jurassic World 3 is on the Horizon.
It is a very legitimate question if their current attention for Elite will be maintained long enough for Ship Interiors.

I got fed up with the DBOBE video, so how about this chunk of Newsletter 32

To Launch, And Beyond with the Lifetime Expansion Pass

Elite: Dangerous is on track to launch in late 2014 (Q4).

But that won’t stop development. We plan to continue to significantly enhance the game via further expansions after the launch date, using the same incremental development philosophy that we’ve used so far.

Major new features will include planetary landings and even walking around inside ships, stations, and planet surfaces with time.

For those who have a Lifetime Expansion Pass (included in Premium Beta and Alpha, and also still available here until 29th July) all such significant expansion will be included. Those without the Lifetime Expansion Pass will be charged for each expansion as they are released.

We have made no secret that our ultimate ambition is to be able to land on the surface of planets, as you were able to in the other Elite sequels Frontier and Frontier: First Encounters.

We want this feature to push the boundaries as we believe we are doing in other areas of Elite: Dangerous already, like space flight, combat, trading, sound, online, visual fidelity etc.

That means rich, varied experiences. Not just landing pads, but rich content on the surfaces, surface vehicles, the ability to stash things there, to explore. Clearly ‘doing it right’ like this will take time, but we have a plan and will get there via a series of meaningful releases.

We believe that each stage will be incredible, and the result truly breathtaking. What you will see on the worlds will be a mix of procedurally generated content, particularly the landscapes, cloudscapes, compositions and so on, mixed with hand-crafted elements.

We also plan to allow you to get up out of your seat and walk around your ship. You can see the level of attention and thought that has already been given to the ship interiors from these ship cockpit views in this video:

Of course walking round your ship will be nice, but it is the just springboard for a very significant expansion of gameplay – you will be able to experience the inside of starports and interact with other players and AI characters, and even board other people’s ships in space and take them by force, as shown in this concept piece.

Of course this will be further expanded to include walking around on the surfaces of planets too.

Alpha and Premium Beta customers, and those who have already bought the £35 Lifetime Expansion Pass alongside either Beta or the full game, will have access to all these features and updates for as long as we create them at no further cost.

This means that if we are as successful as we hope to be, you will still be benefiting from the fantastic early support you gave us for a long time to come.

On 29th July the Lifetime Expansion Pass will no longer be available to buy in the store shop, to coincide with the launch of Beta 1.

So if you are planning to join the Beta or buy the final game and want to add the Lifetime Expansion Pass, you now have until 29th July to get automatic access to all future major paid-for expansions of Elite: Dangerous for £35.

You can purchase the Lifetime Expansion Pass here.

Each paid-for expansion will subsequently be put on sale separately (for people that don’t have the Lifetime Expansion Pass).

I meant the sizes of the hangars that turn into different amounts of space by volume.
The Panther Clipper's special cargo racks are the least of the problems, for any ship interiors implementation which lets us look inside the optional interior bays - not that they have to do that, of course.

Compare the size of a SRV (size 2 internal) with the size of 4 cargo pods.

Compare the size of a SLF (size 5 internal) with the size of 32 cargo pods. The large Guardian ones are especially troublesome here, even before you try to work out where the spare parts for the rebuilds might be stored.

The easiest way out if they did do ship interiors would just be to not let us see those bits.

I'm sure that was the hope and the plan at the time.

Plans change. Hopes are often unrealised. "Internet-Cries" aren't a reason to do anything.

Yes, I understand you, it’s just that the changes that are being introduced now show that there are no plans to introduce ship interiors.

perhaps .... but they owe it to the backers if morally rather than legally, some of whom paid a lot of money precisely because of that plan to admit that things have changed as well as why they think their new plan is better .
imo companies can have it one of 2 ways.

they can make their game and sell a product and we as punters can choose to buy or not..... And other than that they do not owe us a damn thing

or they can come out cap in hand and sell us a dream and get people invested - both emotionally and economical.
BUT at that point if they are no longer going to stick to the plan which got (some of) us to get on board in the 1st place then we deserve to be kept in the loop.

FWIW I would have bought elite dangerous anyway (it was only £20). I probably would have bought the LTP as well on the off chance (£80 for game and LTP) ...... but i definitely would have left it at that. it was the future plans for expansions which got me to go further than that. DB asked us to trust in them to make the game he always wanted to make. So I did.
(I confess i did make some of my money back at the VIP free bar on launch day in Duxford however..... so i am not exactly out of pocket :D ) - but i would happily trade all of those shots and beers for a new paid expansion!.
